    Hello Tom from Australia , What a great descriptive video.. I think with your expert Knowledge you may be able to assist me, I have the "A750F" in a 2002 Turbo Diesel Sahara 4x4 Landcruiser like new with only 140.000km/90.000miles "only gets used for towing our caravan",. I am a 74yr old retired Mechanic and in the past did a lot with auto's, "Social media" say not to use 5th when towing, but all does what it should and changes down and locks up in 4th as it should, (or I do it manually) but when over the hill and backed off power it's reluctant to change up, (especially if long hills on hotter days),, It will change if I select 4th then back to D when back coasting..This model was gifted in Aust with a massive auto cooler and consequently when I did a sump removal/check at 100.000, the fluid was "pink" like new, so wash of magnets, sump and screen (no filter) and fitted all back as was (even fluid) but of coarse no difference. watching your Knowledge at work, thought I would run it by you. Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Dave

    I would be looking at anything that senses a load. MAP, MAF, TPS. Might try cleaning the grounds MAF, and throttle body. Make sure the air filter is nice and clean. I know this is a big problem with Dodge diesel's here, especially the grounds. We don't deal with diesel's much here in the States.

    Thanks so much for your reply Tom, After visiting the States I sort of knew you guys stay clear of Diesels, Iii check what you say, No throttle body on Diesels..but the symptoms I feel are in the trans somewhere, these 750's have got a name here as "Bulletproof" and this problem has been there for 10 years so I think I will just leave it alone until it shows me more drama. cheers mate @@CurmudgeonTransmission

    Which parts in the mechanical side of the A750F do you recommend to replace in any case? Moulded balance piston 19:08? Big bushing inside diameter is 57.42 mm in my case 23:21

    These generally do not have hard part damage. They usually need what we call an L/S kit with pistons (that would be a kit minus the steels), filter, bushing kit (that bushing does not come separately), zip kit from Sonnax or a new valve body and a torque converter.

    @@CurmudgeonTransmission Do you really replace all bushings and valve body every time when rebuilding A750F?

  • @CurmudgeonTransmission

    @CurmudgeonTransmission

    Жыл бұрын

    The main problem with these units start in the valve body. You either try to address it with the zip kit from Sonnax or you buy a new one. I have had good success with the zip kit as long as there are no solenoid problems. The socond problem seems to be that bushing walking out in the planet. Like I said the only way to get it so far is buying a whole bushing kit. So you might as well put them all in.

    Depends. A lot of factors go into what it will cost and you won't know those until it is apart. Good guess, between 4 and 5 thousand. May be more, may be less.

    What part defects cause shuddering in 5th gear at low revs?

  • @CurmudgeonTransmission

    @CurmudgeonTransmission

    Жыл бұрын

    Probably a torque converter shudder from low pressure. Usually a worn out valve body and/or solenoids is the cause. Repair that before any more damage occurs and you may keep from having to replace the torque converter.

    Another great video. Loving the details. Couple questions: 1. Are you able to show how to press out pistons? Or suggest a tool? 2. Is it common to find hair line cracks in bushings. I found cracks in 50%, especially where they were staked in. But there was no wear otherwise, ie the copper finish was still unblemished for all except one. I am aware that some bushings are machined with relief cuts to accommodate temp changes, but these cracks appear irregular, and one bushing (c2 clutch hub upper bushing) was out of round at the crack site. 3. Have you seen bushings that rotate in place and block fluid pores? I found that the lower bushing on my c2 clutch hub (bushing closest to the base when the hub is placed upright) is blocking the oil pore. Middle pore has no bushing and the upper pore is not blocked by its bushing. I found quite a bit of bluing that formed a ring around the open pores in this area. 4. Can you suggest where to find literature on the right way to install these bushings? Depth, orientation, etc. I found the problem in my transmission. The c2 clutch pack was severe burned and chewed up. Like you said. Just trying to figure it all out. I'll take anything you got. Thanks. Great year. Best

    Most bushings have a seam where they are put together. There are exceptions. especially with after market bushings from places like Omega Machine and Tool. Those are machined from a solid piece of brass.

    hello. Excellent work. Thank you for taking the time to record the video. One question... is it possible to replace the valve body without removing the transmission from the vehicle? I ask this in case it is difficult to reinstall the valve body with the springs and accumulators...or it is impossible because they fall out. Thank you so much!!

    It is possible. It is a PAIN to do because of all the stuff that falls out. You will need a lot of the green assembly lube. The vehicle to be cold. Helps to have 2 people.

    Thank you! Please let me ask this question about this transmission… I would like to know your opinion of a small failure…Always with maintenance, adequate oil and with correct level and filter. 350,000km never had any problems but now, accelerating smoothly in D it has a bump in the revs, when is 5th gear , it goes from 2500pm+- to 2000+- and goes back up to 2500pm keeping throttle constant. In sequential position that does not happen. Is there a solenoid fault? Thank you very much for your videos.

  • @CurmudgeonTransmission

    Sounds like it is going in and out of lock up. There can be a ton of things causing that. A lot of them not the transmission. MAF, fuel trim, spark plugs CKP, CMP sensors. I could go on and on. Could be a solenoid or valve body problem as well.

    Couple questions, I have the 750f in my Tacoma. When either the dealership or local shop did drain and fill they stripped the fill hole threads. My local shop used a longer bolt and new rubber seal washer and it seems to be doing fine. He said he found deeper threads. Should I be concerned about this hole? Is there a way I can do drain and fills via transmissions cooler line? Also, how dependable do you think these transmissions are?

  • @CurmudgeonTransmission

    @CurmudgeonTransmission

    7 ай бұрын

    There isn't much threads there to begin with. I would get a new or used pan and change the filter the next time. It is an element type filter and needs to be changed as it cannot be cleaned. They are a very good transmission except for the valve body. I have seen them go 2-300,000 before the valve body fails and then takes out the transmission. If you are getting close to that or at the first sign of a problem put you a new valve body on it and you will probably get alot more miles out of it.

It seems to be pretty well stuck in that cavity (been trying to get it out with a grabber tool and camera). I have two questions could I potentially operate the transmission with the plastic. @@CurmudgeonTransmission well I got everything put back together and everything shifted smoothly except going into 5th gear in drive (all other gear configurations work well) there is a good kick when it tries to shift (rpm’s go up but no power output). Vehicle throws a P0776 code which points to the SL2 solenoid stuck off. I pulled the solenoid and it measured 5.6 ohms and on the outside it looked okay, I went ahead and replaced the solenoid but the issue remains. Before I got the good advice from you about accessing the tail housing. I pulled the pan and valve body and the check ball, spring and body fell out. Also what I believe was the B2 accumulator piston and spring protruded down. I hit it with a rubber mallet and it shot out. Took me a while to find out where the check ball and spring and body went. The accumalator spring looked symmetrical to me. Any I suspect my issue is with one of these components. Looking at the shift chart in the service manual I can’t see a single solenoid that would cause only an issue shifting into 5th. Any pointers you could give would be much appreciated. If you were down the road o would just drive or haul it to you. Its hard to find trustworthy service so I keep learning through the school of hard knocks

    @CurmudgeonTransmission It's an A750E. No question. Think about it, if you agree the A750F is for 4 wheel drive vehicles, and it is, then how are you going to bolt a transfer case to the transmition you're working on? That was a rhetorical question. The only difference between the A750F and the A750E is the extension housing and output shaft. Be well.
