    @@ArthurR Fairly casual photographer with an A6000 here and the Sigma 18-50mm (and soon the 70-350mm Sony). Putting video aside, what major benefits does the A6700 bring for someone like me? I understand it brings a whole heap of AF improvements, better EVF, back screen, etc, but initial impressions are that I wouldn't necessarily see a major leap in performance/image quality - would love to know how wrong I am!

    Went from a6400 to a7C because I wanted a fully articulating screen and the best dynamic range. The dynamic range improvements weren't as vast as I had hoped and I ended up missing all my small lenses, so I'm going back to APS-C with this camera now that it has a fully articulating screen and best-in-class AF. • @trogdor

    The A7C shouldn’t be the benchmark for FF dynamic range. It rehouses the old A7III sensor. The newer generation sensors (everything since the A7SIII release, excluding the re-releases of the A7RIII/IV) are much better.

  • @rickbiessman6084

    @rickbiessman6084

    @@trogdor "much better"? I’ve wondered about that. According to DXOmark measurements, the improvements in dynamic range since the A7III are so small that in my opinion they shouldn’t matter in practical applications. A third of a stop may sound like a lot, but will you actually notice? In my opinion, no. Unless maybe we’re talking about video - can’t really comment on that tbh.

    I’m in a similar place. I upgraded from an a6300 (which I still really like!) to an A7C for better low light performance. I’ve since discovered a host of genius features that I use all the time. But APS-C systems are still smaller. I did sell my APS-C lenses, and now I’m wondering whether the a6700 would have been the better camera for me. But then again, my reason for FF was low light and while the a6700 is probably one of the best low light APS-C cameras on the market, it still doesn’t reach FF levels. The video specs are fantastic, but currently I don’t need them because HLG happens to fit my bill really well. I think it really depends on one’s individual needs, but the a6700 seems to be a stellar camera in pretty much every department.

    Been looking for a new camera for film. The problem was I needed a hybrid camera that could do both photo and video exceptionally. Previously I was thinking about the Black Magic Pocket 4k, but after this video, I am confident this would be a better decision. Thank you for the concise and informational video dude! 1000% yes to the “what about the crop at 4K 120.” I’m still blown away at the fact that a $1200 body can shoot 4K. I remember years of having to rent higher end cameras just to get 240fps at 180 and now I could buy one on a whim. It’s crazy how these things keep improving!

    1200 dollar body? Jesus where you find this for 1200??????????????? Its 2000+ euros in Europe, overpriced as heck, for a bit more you can buy way better cameras. Also, 4k shooting cameras have been a thing since 2014, its rather sad to see you simp this much for a Corporation, 4k60 though, if my memory serves me right, it was Sony A7sIII and Fujifilm XT-3 that set those standards back in the day.

This is indeed really a mini A7IV/V in an APS-C sized body. • @omnirhythm

    @@garretreed9709 May be. I have it but.. I don't know if I can recommend it. No stabilization, clunky menu, micro-usb / UHS-1 SD speed so a raw burst takes ages to write and so forth. I still love it, and it's my 2nd camera after the a5000 but I admit that I was a newb back then and youtube vloggers oversold the camera for what it is. My biggest remark - but this pertains to any Sony APS-C is the poor native lens lineup. Either mediocre or premium priced but beaten by Sigma and Tamron, which don't have lens stabilization. Just my two cents, because I wish I payed more attention to these things when making the decision. Whatever you buy if it's newer than say 2018-2019 you can't really go wrong, I'm mostly nitpicing here :) As a reference, started out as a street and landscape hobby, now I use it for events (mostly at night!), product photography and interior/architecture photography (the Laowa 9mm f2.8 is a fantastic lens for this)

I'm thrilled for it and, as an a1 owner (along with a7c, a6400, zv-e10 and Canon EOS r8...yes, I use all of them,,.for specific things), I will be most definitely be picking this one up (probably have to sacrifice the Canon in order to make it happen, but just testing the waters with that one). I love that this appears to be the same body as the a7c with a much bigger grip. I'm hoping that the a7c II will be similar to this but full frame. I've been using the A6600 (mostly for vlogging) for the past 2 years and the biggest disappointment has been the in-camera stabilization (lens E 2.8 G 16-55 G) contributed to by my shaky hands. (I did buy a gimbal but never use it). IF the stabilization is significantly improved on this then it is extremely tempting to upgrade from the A6600. Awesome review, thanks.

This Sony looks amazing but Fuji is surprisingly holding their own this time! - I do wish they had features like focus breathing comp, the F2 Fuji primes have terrible breathing. But as for the AI digital zoom, that's very cool but is something that can be applied in post more effectively to that 6.2k open gate footage :)
