A5 1.8 TFSI, Big problem! More than I bargained for... and the owner!

Consider to support my channel and all the hard work put into it at / lmautorepairs
Thank you
Hi
This Audi A5 1.8 TFSI, came to me due to the engine and EPC lights on...
A quick scan, revealed a few problems with the cooling system, and I even got to the point of finding one of the issues, but then...
Found something way bigger...
I am not sure the owner was aware it, or if it was, he disregarded it as being an issue... little did he know then...😳
Anyway, I ended up not carrying on, as the main problem now, is not something I can undertake...
Still, I thought to share it, it might not be nothing of a special video, but still hope you enjoy it.
Any questions or comments put them below.
Like always, thank you for watching!

    On my 17 A4 a coolant leak internally in my waterpump/thermostat that was corroding the connector, making it throw codes for the turbo charger and would misfire/limp mode, leak was so small you couldn't even see it, and never refilled the coolant at 30k miles. Gotta love audi

    Great video and you did the right thing. This is how the car is treated by owners who don't care. As another KZread channel I follow says 'Always an Audi'. Some would say, the way they are driven and the attitude of the driver can reflect on the condition of the car mechanicals itself. I suspect this 'was' a cheap auction car, but will stand corrected.

    Could be the camshaft advancer, timing chain. But all this could be going bad for low oil pressure. So yeah if thats the case the first thing to go wrong is rod knock. You are right.

    Spot on we recently had a V8 Range Rover come in for rust repair sill's arches etc luckily the customer mentioned it had been at a garage to get a coolant leak fixed and it still had a problem so we did a few checks and test's on the coolant system before starting the body work and it was obvious that the engine had a serious issue and after giving the customer the bad news the decision to stop was made if he didn't mention it had another problem we would have dived straight into the rust repair

    good morning Luis yes a troubled audi there yes you are right a little / small end but on the speekers of my computer sounded like hydraulic lifters going dry and tappet rattle or ballance shaft ? either way the engine is pooched and needs a good looking at my favourite tool is a long pound through screwdriver against my ear then go on each part of the engine where suspect faulty part i once had a corsa 1.2 the owner said cam rattle done screwdriver test all ok got owner to do same then got a short bit of 10 mm id hose and wnt around intake and exhaust ok then went by spark plugs no2 was loose showed owner with pipe then tightened plug noise went but even i would have sworn it was a cam lifter rattle

    If that was the bottom end it would knock on idle aswell. This is an issue with the top end, might even be the camshaft control valve at the front. Try unplugging it and see if the noise stops

  • @fabini14

    @fabini14

    You are wrong, many engines have rod knock and have 0 noise at idle speed, they only knock when you rev them.

  • @LMAutoRepairs

    @LMAutoRepairs

    Жыл бұрын

    I have definitely seen that as well... No issues at idling and noises revving... The camera to fair, makes the noise coming across slightly different than it was in reality... That said, I guess that stripped would be difficult to pinpoint the exact problem with the engine... 👍👍👍
