A22 Foxbat steep landing approach with side slip

Спорт

Steep landing approach in STOL A22 Foxbat Aircraft. This is a demonstration to show how the landing approach can be steepened compared to just using flaps by also using a side slip. A short field landing is still achieved.

I believe the first slip shown was a forward slip used to scrub off altitude. Cheers!

raising the "nose" slightly and maintaining that pitch will induce an extra flap using the front leading wing edge allowing a steeper glide angle without inducing a "cross controlled" scenario using forward side slip thus avoiding a potential spin if flying at/or near stall speed near the ground. Kicking rudder/rolling controls at the end into the wind and landing on one wheel first was always a rush.

I'm just a Microsoft Flight Sim nerd, but if the Foxbat in that sim is accurate to the real thing, it's a very impressive little aircraft. Very forgiving flight characteristic, ample power, a slow stall speed, great maneuverability, and amazing visibility. When I think I'm about to stall, I'm usually wrong. It must be one of the safest aircraft to fly. I can see why they're so popular.

    Forward slip. Nicely done.

+MrJohndl correct forward slip that is what we call that maneuver in Canada . and i would also carry more speed than that close to stall speed ,a stall in that configuration would be unrecoverable at that altitude, also because not only the aircraft is exposed to the airflow from the side but so is your'e piton tube likely giving you a false ( lower) reading

God your an awesome pilot I just ordered my foxbat from dennis north america and I'm trying to watch all of your videos your side slip and cross wind landings are perfect you should watch your own videos I'm really impressed by your piloting skills would you mind talking a little bit about your flying background and thanks again keep those training videos coming

Very nicely done and edited! My Sting Sport also come down pretty steeply with full flaps.

Hi dronald777 - the secret to the short landing roll is 3-fold: speed control - keep the speed to maximum 45 knots in the side-slip and round-out, no faster; get rid of the flap as soon as you touch down, to remove lift and put weight on the wheels; and finally hard but not fierce braking

My favorite things to do when I was practicing for my license. Slow flight and side slipping.

On a different subject, what are the storage dimensions behind the seats? Also is the plane available in Canada?

should explain and review the times to use forward slip vs. side slip. each has different advantages.

Correct. (At least in the first moments) he ‘forward slipped’ for airplane. Not ‘side slipped’.

  • @citysoundfm

And by 'side' slip he means 'forward' slip 😉

No, slipping is always sideways. Going "forward" is equal to coordinated flight. People who use "forward" in conjunction with slipping have no understanding of what slipping even means.

@@henriksoderstrom8551 as a CFIA and CFII I urge you to look up ‘forward slip’ and compare it to ‘side slip’. Be sure to use the FAAs ‘airplane flying handbook’ to do your research (not google lol) Both your are flying uncoordinated side ways but the difference is the purpose (what you are trying to accomplish). He’s is doing a forward slip. Not a side slip.
