A wild Labor Day weekend on LIRR Central/Montauk Branches. Great weather and horns. 9/1-9/4/23

Gorgeous weather throughout the weekend, beckoned me trackside to catch the final runs of some of the Montauk trains.  You will hear horn action of all kinds, some great, some bad, some laughable. Long trains are seen and the weekend concludes with a hot Labor Day. On this day the railroad was not so fluid thanks to a pedestrian fatality around Elmont with train #6008. That equipment was delayed in getting to Montauk as a deadhead causing delays to other trains. At the end, you will see an abnormally long #6021 with 11 cars making his last run. That train normally has 4 cars but since it took so long for this #6008 equipment to reach Montauk against the heavy westbound traffic, this was all that was left for #6021.

@@3985uprr That we do - in addition to the TEXRail line from DFW to Ft. Worth, with beautiful Stadler DMUs. Have yet to ride it, but there's SO much car infrastructure around here, the DART feels secondary.

@@3985uprr I guess you have a point there. Take Care Maybe catch you one time if you do another Warminster line ride. Of course, the Lansdale Doylestown is more scenic than the Warminster Iyland Brand.

Why did the LIRR elect to go with the EMD DM30AC as opposed to the P42’s? They, on the contrary, seem to be more ubiquitous, with even MetroNorth going with them. Any thoughts or insight? As an aside, the upcoming Siemens are an esthetic abomination!
