A week of good reading ft. Turn of the Screw & Addie LaRue🫖

Фильм және анимация

This week I found a new favourite book of all time, the weather sent me the snowstorm of my dreams & in general spent the week wrapped up as a blanket burrito. I'd love to know if you guys would like to see a whole video on Turn of the Screw and if so, what sort of things you would like to see in it or talked about! Hope you all had a lovely week

Hi Emma! Thank you so much for making these wonderful videos for us. I am a literature student myself and I just love the way you explain you thoughts abouts the books you read, in depth, with an open mind, looking for the beauty in each work you read but at the same time very honest when you dislike some aspects about a book. You made me see how much books can mean for someone and how much they have meant for me in my own life. Because of uni, reading had become more a task than something to enjoy and thanks to you I rediscovered the live and passion I have for the simple act of reading, consuming stories and living the joy that beautiful words can bring. Anyway, thank you so much, I love you x

@@emmiereads I'm making a striped scarf in autumnal colours. I don't really know what the pattern is called in English. It's 3 plain stitches, 3 purl stitches and so forth. It's really fun and easy enough that I can watch or read something at the same time.

Turn of the Screw was one of my favorite read from last year and can't recommend enought to watch the Netflix series based on this book: The Haunting of Bly Manor. It is a true gem and if you liked the Turn of the Screw you'll probably like the show as well. The atmosphere and the characters are so beautifully done. And it's not a horror or scary show at all I promise! It's so poetic and mysterious and sad and beautiful. Can't find the proper word to express how much i loved it honeslty!

Hi - great reviews! I'm a bit late in commenting but thought you might find it interesting that my copy of The Turn of the Screw was printed 91 years ago, in 1930. I bought it when I was studying literature, about 55 years later. The small cloth-bound American Library edition, which also contains The Lesson of the Master, was $2.50 US in a little used books shop that no longer exists. ... Maybe it's time for a re-read? No highlighting, I think. LOL.

Video!! ❤️ It was really interesting to hear your thoughts on the Turn of the Screw. I am glad you loved it. It is definitely an intriguing read. I love how you discuss the paranoia of the governess and the sense of despair in the novel. The feeling of dread and uneasiness is definitely well implemented and portrayed. I would have wanted a less abrupt ending, however, I can see why it was done the way it was. I hope you are doing well ❤ Have a great day Emma n.n

There is an anime series called Princess Sarah based on The Little Princess which I remember watching when I was a kid and really liking it. I had been meaning to re-watch it and then I saw you mention the book 😄 I usually don't write comments. But I just want to say this - Emma, you and your videos make our days a little bit more brighter. They feel like warm hugs that you're sending our way and I hope that these little reminders of how happy you make so many of us makes your days a little brighter too. I am just glad that all this mindless scrolling through You tube videos finally led me to your channel and technology has made it possible for people living in different parts of the world to be able to see your content. I wish you all the best for all your future aspirations. Stay happy and healthy ❤️😄✨⭐ PS - After looking at this comment (essay), I think it's clear why I don't usually write comments 😂

The Snow-Storm BY RALPH WALDO EMERSON Announced by all the trumpets of the sky, Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields, Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air Hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven, And veils the farm-house at the garden's end. The sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed In a tumultuous privacy of storm. Come see the north wind's masonry. Out of an unseen quarry evermore Furnished with tile, the fierce artificer Curves his white bastions with projected roof Round every windward stake, or tree, or door. Speeding, the myriad-handed, his wild work So fanciful, so savage, nought cares he For number or proportion. Mockingly, On coop or kennel he hangs Parian wreaths; A swan-like form invests the hidden thorn; Fills up the farmer's lane from wall to wall, Maugre the farmer's sighs; and, at the gate, A tapering turret overtops the work. And when his hours are numbered, and the world Is all his own, retiring, as he were not, Leaves, when the sun appears, astonished Art To mimic in slow structures, stone by stone, Built in an age, the mad wind's night-work, The frolic architecture of the snow.

So interesting to hear your critique on Addie Larue, considering all I've heard about it is how its writing is its strength! My main beef with it (which you've probs already heard from me in a different video) even though I haven't read the book is how Schwab barely addressed diversity elements, given the concept of how long Addie lives. I won't go into detail but apparently it's not something most people notice unless they're... not white lol
