If you ever move down here, don't get caught up in the tourist hype. Most likely you won't be living in Manhattan. Consider the Bronx or Brooklyn for an apartment.

This is a lovely demonstration of why a working musician really has to have a portfolio of working briefs to draw upon during any given week - bass, guitar, keyboard, arrangement, production, business development - it never ends, and can be really stimulating and exciting! I do like the idea that we have to be on the constant lookout for areas to improve ourselves - knowledge sharing, skill development and being more creative with our available time. I hope that at least one of the many people who request that musicians give of their time and material for free "because it will be free advertising for you!" - sees this and realises just how much effort each performer has to invest in themselves in order to stay in demand, let alone create a demand for their unique selling point.

Being a multiinstrumentalist is not only helpful, it's the best way to be a musician, making a living off it or not! If I had the money (and talent :s), I'd play like 7 different instruments and learn to sing on top of that :)

Paul Davies being a multi instrumentalist is actually very common nowadays - so common that it has lost a little of its meaning. Most musicians can play some guitar and keys.

It's not so much of a help as it is a necessity.

I'd love to see a video on all the things you carry around with you throughout the week. Things you keep in your gig bag, things on your cart, in the suitcase, to practices/gigs, etc

hence why he had so many gigs lol...the busy guys aren't busy bc they do drugs, the busy guys are busy because THEY DONT and are talented...sadly lots of talent find comfort in drugs to navigate the nasty world of egos and music...pressure and rejection.

I understand why some people in the coments are being so negative. I don't agree, but I understand. Most of them, don't share the joy of playing gigs, or rehearsing. If music is your true passion, you get addicted to the great feeling of performing with your band mates. The dynamic of playing with good friends and making people happy in the process is impossible to explain.

The Musician HUSTLE! It's not always glamorous (Tonight the Opera House - Tomorrow the local Pub) but I see it as FREEDOM!! Thanks for sharing mate!!

I love playing music but I would hate to make it my job. Others are saying this looks great and fun and whatnot. To me it looks awful. I'd rather keep music a hobby, but I'm glad for those who can enjoy making a living with it.

Yep, I tried it, not full time though. I taught private students, on Saturdays for a music school and a few wedding gigs. All this on top of being a full time student at university. I completely burnt out. Strictly a passion for me and I don’t even feel like gigging.

I'm the same with cooking. Love doing it for friends and myself, but would hate to be doing it everyday and stuff I might not want to eat.

I'm a long time fan re-watching this in 2019. It's so cool to see how much this channel has grown in the last couple of years!

Wow... this really puts into perspective how busy life can be at times for a musician, and honestly really opened up my eyes to how much more I can be doing instead of wasting my time like I usually do. Thank you, and great video (as always)

thank you for this! anyone living this life in their home town anywhere can feel a little bit better about the fact that it looks like this EVERYWHERE :D what's different is the local music styles you need to nail and perform sometimes more often than you'd like and of course THE PAY... veery diffrent depending on where you live, meaning it's always a lot or too little for whoever you're talking to from outside of your country, or even outside of your city :) Adam, your content is among the best music-related content out there, seriously. Being stuck in an office all day SUCKS ... but honestly, i am very glad i got that Comp Sci degree. :) I played with 3 bands when i lived in NYC and it was a LOT of work for little reward. LA wasn't much better, but at least you could park.

I am totally amazed about how much value does music have in your place. I could bet my head that in a lot of countries, mine - Chile - included, most of the places and events you gigged (weddings, yoga sessions, restaurants, etc.) just play pre-recorded music for saving money - as bands are seen more as an expense rather than an investment -, and also because of the general view of music as an 'art' -which means 'something that should not be paid for'-.

You use Mainstage! I would love to watch you make some patches, talk about resources you use, or what to do when trying to replicate a sound from scratch. My band just added "Something Just Like This" to our set and while I'm satisfied with the patch I created, I feel like it would be better if I had a better understanding of Alchemy or how to manipulate synths in general.

This was a really great idea for a video.

Really nice perspective on what it's like to be a full-time musician! It does seem like it can be quite daunting at times, too. I see that being a multi-instrumentalist does help out quite a bit. Despite an overlap of 5 years (2008-2013) of playing both guitar and violin, guitar has been my primary instrument since I started playing it in 2008. I would love to learn how to play piano/keyboard, though. The theory aspect is great for me, but I think earning another instrument or three besides guitar would be more helpful at possibly finding more avenues as a player.

You are amazing. I'm an amateur musician, this video makes me feel like a total layman.

Do you practice photography at all? The fourth shot in is really great! The frame within a frame, the exposure, the bagpipe artist creating depth. It's a cool shot that you don't see in a lot of non photo/film vlogs. It's kind of like the argument for reading music--which I'm now learning to do after a long break from playing bass. Anybody with a camera with auto exposure or even an iPhone can create a compelling photo on accident, but understanding the exposure triangle and composition will help you create photos deliberately rather than just shooting a bunch and keeping the ones that happened to turn out right. Kind of like when you talked about asking yourself if you like a certain note, but having to fumble and search all over for that note due to a lack of understanding. I enjoy the vlogs keep up the good work!

Then I got old.......they never told me that would actually happen...to me Then I went through something like a grief thing when I couldn't keep up ....my body just told me.... Now I'm like Maurice Chevalier once sang...."I'm glad I'm not young any more" You got it man.....do it all while you can.....
