A WEEK AT HOTEL XCARET ARTE - Not the BEST all inclusive resort in Mexico

We stayed one week at Hotel Xcaret Arte in September 2022.
During our travel to Playa del Carmen, we decided to test everything at Hotel Xcaret Arte and we liked a lot of the hotel's features. Although we think the all inclusive resort in Mexico is good, we still think that Palmaia the house of AiA has a way more personalized service and might be the best all inclusive resort in Mexico.
Check Out our Xcaret Park Video: • XCARET PARK | Not what...
See our full review of Palmaïa - The House of AïA • We tried Mexico's BEST...
Actually, we even think that cruise ships hold better service.
Based on the price you would pay for Hotel Xcaret Arte, I would have expected more.
The price at Xcaret Hotel ranges from $800 a night and up to above $3000.
It depends if you are staying at:
- Xcaret Hotel
- Hotel Xcaret Arte
- La Casa de la playa
Xcaret hotel is the cheapest and La Casa de la playa is the one that takes the most money out of your pocket.
Xcaret hotel is a privately owned and operated theme park, resort, and self-described ecotourism development located in the Riviera Maya, a portion of the Caribbean coastline of Mexico's state of Quintana Roo.
It is part of Xcaret Experiencias Group which also owns the Xplor Park, Xel-Ha Park, and Xenses Park; as well as the Xichen, Xenotes, Xavage and Xoximilco tours and activities.
It is situated approximately 75 kilometers (47 mi) south of Cancún, and 6.5 kilometers (4 mi) south of the nearest large settlement Playa del Carmen along Highway 307.
It is named after the nearby archaeological site Xcaret, a settlement constructed by the pre-Columbian Maya some of whose structures lie within the boundaries of the park's 81 hectares (200 acres) of land holdings.
You can read more about the hotel at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xcaret_...
You would also find more information about Xcaret Hotel here: www.xcaret.com/en/
We also visited the xplor park by xcaret with a river inside a cave underground.
So all in all, we don't feel like hotel xcaret arte is the best all inclusive resort for us.
This hotel is perfect for those who want to experience the culture and the beauty of Mexico, but it will cost some money.
In this video, we're sharing a week at Hotel Xcaret Art, exploring all of the amazing things that this resort has to offer. From the beautiful pools to the delicious food, Hotel Xcaret Art has something for everyone. So if you're looking for a luxurious all-inclusive experience in Mexico, check out Hotel Xcaret Art!

Not to be mean or anything but his Hotel SCREAMS Mexican culture, maybe you missed that point? It is luxury combined with rustic Mexican art. From the decorations to even the trash cans, all are made by local talented artisans that pay tribute to the different states in the Mexican Republic. Mexican cuisine can be a punch on someone's palette because the spices and flavors used, but in my opinion it is the BEST. Obviously, this is your opinion and experience but I encourage everyone to try it for themselves because there is a chance you will love it :).

I was there last August and I state with all honesty the service is definitely 5-star. I'm not sure what experience they were expecting or looking for, but it is a top-notch hotel. You get a personal waitstaff person/butler who guides you when you get there. They go over the hotel, the dining and excursions if you haven't pre-booked them, and takes you to your room. The food is nothing less than spectacular. Even the buffet style places like the Mercado and Cayuco brunch were amazing. He's right, alot of KZread travel videos are sponsored but they were not lying. Totally worth the price. The only thing I'll say is that it's VERY steeped in Mexican culture. Every little detail down to the food selections, decor, and atmosphere. Me and my friends loved that aspect but it's worth nothing.

When you burn $1000 a night, just to be in bed puking it’s not that pleasant. All over I think I am saying mostly positive things about the hotel :)

I disagree about the food. some of the fusion food is a hit or miss, but the Mexican food is pretty spot on. actually, the food is better at the sister property, hotel xcaret Mexico. maybe you just don't like Mexican food or know what its supposed to taste like? no offense, but Mexican food in Europe is pretty horrific, its all dumbed-down and westernized. I just dont think you are used to authentic Mexican and it clashed with your palette. ive seen other gringos at xcaret complain about the food too. you probably noticed that most of the clientele at xcaret are Mexican or from Latin America. xcaret does not cater to western tourists. its one of the few locally owned and operated hotels in the area, so almost all the food is Mexican. you can't serve locals bad Mexican food and get away with it and this is one of the most popular hotels in the area so they must be doing something right. palmaia is a totally different kind of resort. it was created by a westerner for a western audience, which is the vast majority of riviera Maya resorts. its also more of a wellness resort, totally different vibe vs xcaret. I do agree that xcaret service can be a hit or miss, but really royal Caribbean? thats such a strange comparison. I mean royal is like a budget to mid level cruise line. its a totally different segment than xcaret and its not even a hotel. personally, I haven't seen amazing service at royal outside of their premium or luxury brands.

Hi Ken Lewis. I appreciate your opinions and the effort you have put into your comment. So thank you for taking the time to comment on our video. I am more or less talking about the buffet in the scenario over (I am also sitting in the buffet) They had options that were good in the buffet as well, but that was some of the Mexican food and the fresh fruit. The European cousin they tried to make was not up to speed if I may say. In my opinion, we have been served much better Mexican food from food trucks and restaurants both in Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. But remember these are just opinions from a European-tasting mouth, so It's not a "know-it-all" situation. When paying a price for a hotel like that I think they did a lot of things that made it feel cheap service vice. Examples are the sales meeting, waiting 40 minutes on check-in, and waiting 30 minutes on check-out. We may have been unlucky with that experience and when my wife got food poisoning, may have ruined some of the experience. My intention in bringing RCCL into the mix as they actually manage to do personalized service on boats with 6000+ people. We have been on 6 cruise ships and our experience is extraordinary. Waiters in the main dining room, washing personnel, and so on care to remember your name. That is appreciated. So it may be a bad explanation. We really did enjoy our stay at Xcaret, and the hotel is stunning. The food at Kibi Kibi is very good as well.

@@rolfbjj did you try any of the other restaurants besides the buffet? xcaret is definitely not going to be able to do western food well. but then again, are you really going to Mexico for the pizza? I disagree with the pricing, yes it is on the higher-side in comparison to other all-inclusive in the area, but look at how much you get for the price - food, beverage, and all the entertainment/parks. on a price per-person basis, the value is almost unbeatable. the only other place that is somewhat close in comparison would be Disney, but that is significantly more expensive. just lodging costs at Disney alone are the same price as xcaret. its rare to get personalized service in hotels/resorts outside of the luxury segment. and xcaret is definitely not at the same level as a st regis or ritz, which actually cost more and don't include F&B. xcaret is also way too big at 900 rooms to be able to pull off something like that. I mean palmaia only has 1/3 of that number of rooms. also, when you are on a cruise you typically have the same wait and housekeeping staff for the whole trip. the staff keeps changing around at bigger resorts. well, if you are looking for over the top service the place next to arte, casa de la playa, has extremely personalized service (maybe too personalized) at only 60 rooms. of course, you are going to pay for that level of service. im not saying xcaret is flawless, far from it, but I've been fortunate to stay at almost every major resort up and down riviera maya and this is by far one of the best in the area for the money.

Your comparison to using RCCL as a “yard stick” to measure other buffets - or food in general - is spot on. We’ve been fortunate enough to eat at some of the best restaurants in North America, as well as all inclusives, and cruises (Royal Caribbean and Celebrity), and we’re always so amazed at what they can do for food on the ships - breakfasts, to buffets to the dining room dinners, they’ve been some of the best meals we’ve had. They never serve ANYTHING subpar. As far as service, again cruises like RCCL set the bar high in our experience…in fact, we find the attention to service isn’t even as good at some of the nicest hotels, and at least as good as the best restaurants. Great review by the way, I appreciate the honesty.

@@kenlewis6326 I'm sorry, I've not seen this comment Ken. Fair enough, you definitely have som point about the hotel being 900 roms for sure. But I think from junior suite an up, they should make an effort to remember your name. This is my opinion, nothing more than that. I think we both can agree that Xcaret is an extremely good hotel, and that its most definitely one of the best hotels in Mexico. And regarding you question: "Do you really come for the pizza?" Definitely not 😅 but then again we had already been one month in Mexico at the time we stayed at xcaret, ans are fortunate enough to be there as long as we like. So variations in food is important to us. The "waste of money" refers to my wife's food poisoning. And for some reason the headline on this video makes people who loves Xcaret, hate on it. We have 50% dislike, and it's the second video we have ever created. We are just trying to make an honest review, about how we experienced the hotel and make it in to a video. And in my opinion I think I spend most of the time in the video bragging about the hotel, but mentioning "average food" makes people go all "Nahhh I hate this review" 🤣 But think about it 900 rooms, people will experience the hotel differently.

Have you ever been on a cruise ship? Depends on company. But some of them have insane service, and much more personalized then Xcaret Arte. Also palmaïa has much more personalized and better service (of course a smaller hotel) But in terms of restaurant reservations and so on, we got cancelled 3 times for dinner due to problems with kitchen and so on. They first told us when we showed up to the door at the restaurant. And then they could not re-book us to another restaurant. So we ate 3 more nights then intended in the buffet. That would never had happened in Palmaïa. They used 45 ish min to check us in, because they want to sell in the sales presentation. If you go to Langham place in New York, you would get shocked if they did something like that. Then 30 new minutes to check out, and waiting 20 minutes on a taxi. All those things are service as well. And we where in a suite, in the most exclusive part of Xcaret Arte with the purple bracelets. I'm not saying the service is bad, I'm saying it has improvement's.

@@rolfbjj I have been, only to one though, it was fantastic, but once again, XCaret Arte was just insane for me. I actually just came back from XCaret Arte 2 days ago, so I still remember everything very good. Check out was less than 4 minutes, it even took that long because my wife wanted to buy pictures at the parks, so I had to pay them there. We were scheduled for the bus to the airport at 10:45, so we just arrived at 10:40 and were ready to go. We were also able to catch the bus to XCARET ARTE at the airport the day after we arrived, no questions asked. So, round trip with no issues at all. Check in was extremely quick, even earlier because oh well, room happened to be ready by 11:00ish am, so they just let us in, without any extra charge. Never had a single issue with my reservations at TAH-XIDO or CHINO POBLANO even though I really wasn't interested in their menu, but I did it anyway, because well, I had time. Everything else I had at the buffets was amazing. Aguachiles at CAYUCO, amazing, and I grew up in SONORA which has amazing aguachiles, along with Sinaloa. Also, the personalized ceviche that you can create is also extremely good, of course, if you know how to mix it. Pozole at MERCADO SAN JUAN also very tasty and very good. The only downside for me perhaps was the CHILAQUILES, but they were tasty enough, not as good as I expected, but that's my fault, because I should have let them know they ran out of it, so they could replace them, so I basically ate the leftovers that were soaky and not crispy anymore. But is ok. You might not be very familiar with mexican food and maybe not very interested in it, but these 2 buffets had very good authentic mexican food, especially for being in a buffet/resort I'm not even going to try Palmaia based on the extremely good & personalized service I got at XCARET ARTE. Plus, Palmaia cuisine is not for me, nor is very mexican by the looks of youtube videos. I don't live in Mexico anymore, so whenever I go back, I want to have good mexican food, not pretentious food. And by pretentious I really mean it. I've been to a lot of mexican places where they "cook mexican" for tourists, trying to impress, but the most flavorish mexican food, is the one you find on the streets, not on "fancy/resorts" restaurants (I can even put XCaret reservation restaurants in this). And with this, I totally get that you liked Palmaia more, not saying is bad food, I'm extremely sure is very tasty, just not what I am looking for. But for a more mexican vibe, with extremely good ass service, XCaret Arte is the place to go (for me). Plus, I get to go to the parks whenever I want and soak in in my culture? Any day of the week. Plus, the club was slayyyy, it goes until 4:00am, and there are tacos outside of it. 10000/10. I'm really sorry that you didn't have a good service, but the one I had was extremely, extremely good. Making me want to go back next year once again. Maybe after I come back, I will try Palmaia, but I'll have to wait until 2024 at least. I just didn't have enough days at XCARET and for me, is number one priority at Playa right now.

I actually believe that the Mexican food at palmaïa is very authentic, and the fruit and vegetables are picked in their backyard, so everything is extremely fresh. Allthough some of the options are 100% vegan, and I am not. I would 100% agree with you about the street food. That's the best. The food trucks in Playa del Carmen with the Mega store is fantastic.

Hopefully in two years or whenever I go to Palmaia, I come back to this comment and tell you how freaking amazing it was, which I'm pretty sure it is, because I'm amazed some people do put it on top of XCaret Hotels, so it's DEFINITELY MUST BE AMAZING. I'm not nuts 😜 or maybe a little, it's a fabulous hotel as I say 100 times in the video. The property is the most insane I've ever seen. Everyone who says I don't know nothing about food is nuts 😂 I've spent over 5 months in Mexico and have tasted so much good Mexican food, and I am going in the areas where gringos not normally go, the local areas. I can promise you a thousand % you will find better food in Mexico. I also compared the service to palmaïa the house of AIA, as we where on a couple weeks prior. And the service there is better and more personalized. A lot of people are saying this and that, but they have not tried Palmaïa, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Rosewood Mayakoba, Viceroy and so on. It might be a reason why all those hotels has better rating. I've never said anything negative about Xcaret. But I am saying that there exists more personalized hotels witch ove a more exclusive feel. Different concepts.

If all you plan on doing is drinking margaritas by the pool, you can definitely do better than Xcaret. The whole reason to go to Xcaret is the parks, and most importantly the network of convenient shuttle busses to get you around. For most vacationers, being able to fly into Cancun and be driven everywhere for free avoids a lot of travel stress. The amazing architecture and natural feel of the resort is just a bonus. Sure you pay for it up front, but you know you're going to have an amazing vacation in sunny Mexico with minimal hassle and maximum safety. Now if only Xcaret could do something about the airlines over-booking flights...

Compare to what other people say about other all inclusive, plus you might have to pay for certain things being all inclusive and food is not all great. The American style is not in my page lol. Been there 3 times already and by far my favorite resort. The food was always great, yes there can be a few dishes you don’t like but that’s the point of an all inclusive, you order something and you are like no this isn’t something that I would like, you order something else. I have a digestive issue with mushrooms and once made a mistake there at the Italian restaurant where my dish had mushrooms in the sauce, guess what I did, ordered something else. The amenities and the beauty of the whole place out shines every other resort in that area that I’ve come across, and I go every chance to that area as it’s an easy 1hr and a half flight for me.

I might have done a wrong comparison here, and mixed Disneyland and Disney world. Xcaret Park is 200 acres, and Disneyland is 500 acres (remember this was before I ever visited Xcaret, and know more of it’s structures now) I remember I read somewhere that Xcaret had a 800 acre lot, and I also know Xcaret group started a project in 2022 in the Yucatán district of over 600 acres, witch the article states is bigger than the original Xcaret. But compared to Disney world (which is the comparison I thought I did 😂) Xcaret becomes the little league, as Disney world is 25.000 acres 😮
