A Wall Tent DEER CAMP On Public Land | Montana Deer (EP. 2) 🦌

In episode 2 of this public land montana deer hunt, Marcus Hockett still holds an unfilled general season deer tag, along with Beau Baty of @wildernessridgetrailllamas6971 . Marcus and Travis head out early in the morning to a spot that looked good from the satellite imagery, but upon arriving they quickly realized it wasn't ideal habitat.
So Marcus continues checking out different sections of public land. He locates a mature muley buck on a section of state land that he quickly decides to go after. They hike to within range, but mess up on the distance resulting in a clean miss. Thankfully, Marcus is able to get back on the buck and get a good range.
Beau also has a deer tag to fill, so he is out covering country looking for a buck to shoot. When Marcus gets back to camp, he sees the monster public land mule deer that Beau turned up.

I’ve never had a bad mule deer. Very tasty! The grain field buck not only had significant rump fat but had quite a bit of fat up around his shoulders!
Great looking bucks! Thanks for sharing. I’ve only had 1 western muley hunt (NM-2019) and shot a decent buck- really looking forward to another trip out there if I can pull a tag in 2021.

Hey Marcus, did you guys leave your deer carcass out in that grain field? Even if it is technically public land, not exactly a way to leave warm feelings for the lease holder towards hunters.....

Even if he djd, winter wheat isn't usually harvested until summer, lots of time for scavengers and decomposition to break it down.

@@shootingatshadow the bones certainly dont break down. I've had a leg bone break as I drove over it with a tractor and drive through the side of the tire.... $1800.00 later I was back to work. Irresponsible!

@@campdn I meant they carcass breaks down, (ie it will.be a scattered group of bones not anything 3D, obviously the bones don't. A punctured tire is just he cost of doing business; get over it.

Sometimes it’s nice to not always have a camera over your shoulder on a hunt. I only planned on filming my own portion of the hunt. I didn’t want to intrude on anyone else.

Randy what became of the gun Smith shop east of Atlantis Casino, I went have some gun work and they were gone, I talked the guy previously, and said he was a friend of your, he sold Howa rifles and felt with Legacy sports. Did he go broke over this Covet 19 crap, hope not seem great guy. Or maybe his shop was just in a bad location.

Why does everyone skin the head of the deer? I see it being done all the time on these hunting channels. It's something I've never done, and just wondering what the purpose is.

Combination of CWD and euro mounts. Regulations are pretty specific about transporting skulls. Brain matter must be removed ect.

For a European style mount. I find it much easier to skin them right away. Even waiting a day makes it more difficult.

It makes the head considerably lighter when you remove the skin, meat, and jaw from the skull. That's the primary reason most people do it. And they are ready for a European mount as Marcus points out, or to skull cap when you get back to the truck.

Man, those are so dumb mule deer. Not often that you shoot and they stand there, or get closer.
Yall need to practice with your rifles more. You missed then almost gut shot the same deer but got lucky and hit his spine. Travis is praising you for how great of a shot you just made while the deer is fully alive and conscious but simply doesn't have control of his muscles. Not a good representation for hunters.
Possible poaching on last deer. Awfully suspicious about it that you didn’t get that one ☝️ on film
