A Walk in WOLSTANTON VILLAGE Walking Tour | Newcastle under Lyme | Staffordshire

Wolstanton is a suburban town on the outskirts of Newcastle-under-Lyme, in the Newcastle-under-Lyme district, in the county of Staffordshire, England. The Roman road the Rykeneld Street passed through Wolstanton. Wolstanton is mentioned in the Norman Domesday book where it is listed amongst the lands belonging to the King. The land consisted of work for 2 ploughs, 14 villeins, 2 bordars and a priest (who had his own plough). Woodland then was measured as being a league by a furlong. When tax had been paid (by Ælfgar before the conquest) then it was set at six pounds.

Why have you listed it as being in Stoke on Trent when you know it is not?

I used to have a good walk up to the wolstanton shops but it's changed now .going down the side street by the new elderly flats was my old school.its offices now its a big building that stands on its own.it used to be wolstanton convent school si I was taught by nuns.not that I learned much.sadly it was all about religion and wether I'd been to Mass.so not happy days for me.

@@StaffordshireTravelAdventures hi sorry its taken me so long to reply usual Saturday trip out shopping.im not quite sure when it closed to be honest.i went onto a site called Newcastle under Lyme schools and charities.it mentioned that it had opened in 1873 if I've read it correctly.but I can't find any record of when it closed.i started there in 1957 when I was 11.and left in 1961 aged 15.we tended not to stay on then .most left to go straight into jobs which were not hard to get then.and you were more or less expected to leave and get a job so you could pay your board.perhaps you may have a better chance of looking it up as for me the writing was quite small. I'd realy like to know myself.i noticed the old convent was up for sale a couple of years ago.hope you find the answer.good luck.
