Enfield Square Mall is a local mall located in Enfield, Connecticut, just south of Springfield, Massachusetts. The mall first opened in 1971, developed by May Centers, the development branch of May department stores. Enfield Square would live life uneventfully through the '80s, first changing hands in 1996 when Westfield acquired Enfield Square's owner at the time, CenterMark. Ten years later, Westfield would sell the mall to Centro Properties, and ten years after that, Centro would default on their loan and would have the property foreclosed by J.P. Morgan Chase.
Two years after foreclosure in 2018, the mall would be sold to Namdar Realty, who would neglect the mall and let it fall into disrepair. This included a 2022 incident where the roof of the former Macy's collapsed. A year later, the mall would be inspected, and would find numerous other code violations, prompting the town of Enfield to threaten indefinite closure if Namdar did not take action on fixing the building's deficiencies. In 2020, a proposal to subdivide the mall into additional parcels would be approved as part of a redevelopment plan, though this plan never came to fruition under Namdar. In late 2023 and early 2024, a few of the remaining tenants, such as Cinemark and Bath & Body Works, would flee the mall.
In May 2024, Namdar would sell the mall to Woodsonia Acquisitions, who would reveal plans to close and demolish the mall and redevelop it into an open-air mixed-use center, although no timeline for closure or redevelopment has been announced as of the publication of this video.
