    Having spent the first twenty years of my life in Mississippi, I can tell you that this video accurately depicts the very worst that this state has to offer, the bottom 5%. Mississippi isn't a state of wealth, nor will it ever be with the way the rest of the nation looks at us. Do most people who live here get to make a lot of money? No, but that only conditions the people here to appreciate more the things that they ARE able to have. It makes them a very grateful and hospitable people, and it makes them no less intelligent that the other forty-nine states.

    It makes them a very grateful and hospitable people, and it makes them no less intelligent that the other forty-nine states eh? Well, I'm a Christian and grateful for everything I have. But I have a college degree with honors from a university who's business school was ranked 8th in the top 10 in the country at the time. I've had post graduate study too. So what you're saying is THESE people are as intelligent as me eh? Hmmmmm..... And this is the bottom 5%? I always thought the bottom 5% were black sharecroppers living in shacks on someone else's land! And why ISN'T it a state of wealth? When Trent Lott was your senator, he kept getting all that money appropriated to build factories and plants down there! Where did all that money go? Plus, he got more homeland security money appropriated for Mississippi to protect cotton fields than states like New York and New Jersey who had the bridges, tunnels and ports to protect!

    I’m 34 years old. I was born and raised in MS, and lived there until 2016 when I left for a my career. A couple of observations from this video. 1) This is not an accurate portrayal of MS. There are well educated, hard working people in MS. While people may look down on the state as poor and part of the south, what they miss is the genuine hospitality the people there have for one another. 2) While this video tries to show MS as the poorest state with nothing but racism and ignorance, they only interviewed white males. What about the other people from other walks of life?! As someone who has traveled the country and met people from various walks of life, I guarantee that you will find ignorant and racist people in each and every state. This video solidifies more that Bill Maher and his show is just a way to belittle people and doesn’t fully state all facts and perspectives.

If what I see and know from experience makes me a moron who doesn't know anything than the best thing I can tell you is go to places like Laurel or Hattisburg and see for yourself, looking on the internet instead of going to the towns I recommended will prove me right that this state isn't how it looks and how it only depends on what town you go to that can be toxic and my reason for saying why it's rare is because I never had an experience or seen someone have an experience of being judged because of color. Am I going to doubt that racism happens in this state? No, racism happens everywhere no matter where someone is at, we can't control that but the best thing we can do is love one another no matter who they are because it's better for us to do so, and I love you. This is so dishonest. I'm a Mississippian, and I love how you only interview poor WHITE MEN, in a state that is majority female and 38% BLACK (the blackest state in the country per capita) and where only 13% of white people live in poverty (vs ~30% of black people, because systemic racism is a thing) and say this video is representative. By the way, how are you going to say we are the "most conservative state"? 43% of Mississippians voted for Obama in 2012; about 40% voted for Hillary; 48% voted for a Democrat for governor in a 2019, and 46% voted for a black Democrat (Mike Espy) for US Senate in 2018. But we're the "most conservative"? Are you kidding? Have you ever heard of West Virginia? Bill Maher, you're trash. Yeah, this was cherrypicking.

  • @yurippp634
    @yurippp6342 жыл бұрын

    For whatever reason I can't see the upload date, but as a Russian who lives in Norway and has lived in America before, specifically Texas for 7 years, Mississippi is far from the most conservative. There are many majority-black Democrat counties. It's a lovely state with great history and culture. This man definitely did cherry pick, Mississippi tends to be more conservative than some other states, but many people there are completely sane people who vote for the candidates they support in good faith. How can you claim 40-50% of a country has malicious intent just because they vote for a certain person? I'm not a huge fan of the current GOP and two party system, but I think the people of Mississippi politics aside are definitely some of the most down to earth and hospitable people I've met. Also, in the USA, as soon as I learnt the language and grasped the different customs and values, everyone instantly saw me as an American, that is not the case in any other country. Here I’ve been told to learn the language before I move here (which I in fact did almost a year in advance) just for asking someone to repeat something for not speaking clearly. The first place some people run to in Mississippi is the delta, which is the poorest region in the state. However it is not characteristic of the whole state. Mississippi is a beautiful place to live in. It's peaceful and quiet. It doesn't take much to live here. So don't think that this video portrays everybody who lives here. This way of life in Mississippi is far and few in between. So please come visit our state. You'll be glad you did. Visit places in Mississippi like Southaven, Tupelo, Madison, Jackson, Hattiesburg, Biloxi, Gulfport and enjoy yourself.

    +Bruce Villa This is the level of stupid we have to deal with. These stupid assholes put Vitter back in the senate. republicans do not have the morals or the intelligence to make sound rational decisions. They should never and I repeat never be allowed to hold a position where they make decisions that affect others. I don't think that the people we saw in that video should even be allowed to vote!
