A Video Editor's Review Of The Dell XPS 15 9570 Laptop

Ғылым және технология

If you're looking for a powerful 4K video editing laptop that is still extremely portable, I would highly recommend the Dell XPS 15 9570.
❗ Get the Dell XPS 15 9570 on Amazon: amzn.to/2U5rOIf
I've been using this laptop for video editing while traveling for the past 7 months, and it has proven more than capable of editing wedding films and KZread videos on the go.
In this review, I detail how well this laptop will work for video editors using Adobe Premiere Pro and Da Vinci Resolve, as well as give you some real-world benchmarks for how fast it renders compared to other laptops. You will also learn the exact configuration I recommend purchasing, and how to save the most $$ when buying this laptop.

Brilliant video man, thanks for this. It's a shame they used Toshiba over Samsung. Also upgraded the WifiCard to the Intel AC-Wireless 9260 as the Killer kept losing connection. The new card also features BT 5.0. The range really does improve. Again, Thanks for a great video Matt!

Matt, I'm really thinking to use an e-GPU such as Nvidia RTX 2080Ti with the AKiTiO Node Pro as I want to be able to do more with after effects and I like AE and PP to work as real time as possible. I can't find anyone who's used it with this laptop. Do you think it'll help significantly with previews and renders? Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much for making this video. I’m currently working with a desktop build that was originally meant for short 1080p videos. But as my career has expanded I’ve been in desperate need of a computer upgrade. While I did upgrade the desktop a bit more by adding in a new i7 processor, I knew I wanted to make the change to primarily storing on the desktop and having a laptop as a my main computer. I was sooooo tired of being locked away in my room like the hunchback of notre dam. I wanted the flexibility of being able to at least be in the presence of my family as I edit, and this new laptop will give me that. It should be coming in within the next few days (i did opt for the 4K touch screen, but I’m mainly the most excited about a shorter rendering time, hallelujah lol). Sorry for the ramble, but I say allllll this to say THANK YOU for making your channel. I get so much value out of your content. Stay awesome

I've been thinking about getting a new laptop for on the road editing but had bad results with a very fast beefy MSI gaming laptop which totally bricked from a firmware patch but now that i learned about your proxies video i might consider getting that dell laptop. Do you use proxies when editing 4k or many edits and transitions in a timeline on your dell laptop and does that help it to be smooth editing?

I know your channel and video are focused on video editing, and the video editing aspects of this Laptop. I have one for the same purpose, and I love it! However, it must be noted that the audio drivers, sound card, and Waves software on this laptop are BUTT! After a deep dive, many people on the Dell support pages and Dell subreddit have this problem. There's a lot of unnecessary latency, which leads to crackling and static. MaxxAudioPro is also enabled by default, which makes dialogue and vocals sound like they're being spoken into a Pringles can. This actually can be an issue during video editing too, but this is most obvious using DAWs and other audio production software. More reviews on KZread should point this out! Thanks for the review Matt. Good stuff.

I just purchased this laptop less than a month ago. The i7 with 16gb/512gb ssd and 1080p screen was 1022 after tax. This was a refurbished model, but man it's so good.

The exhaust fan is located behind the hinge, it looks cleanner, but the screen is actually blocking the vent out. I got my unit for little under 1200$ for i5/8300H/8GB/256G and I plan to upgrade RAM and SSD later, and i dont think you need that 8750H because it is going to thermal throttle anyway.

Hi, I would greatly appreciate some advice. I'm thinking about buying an XPS 15, how loud is the laptop when using it normally (web browing etc) and when video editing? And how hot does it get? Many thanks

Hey man, doing some research on a new video editing laptop and I came across this video. Hopefully you see this comment since it's been a couple of months now. But would you recommend the new Surface Laptop 3 with the 10th gen Quad Core i7 over this? It's slightly cheaper

What about the temp, is this new dell xps no speed throttling? M using Illegear Selenith with GTX1060 with a thin 17.3" 144hz and whole thin body profile and great temp mgt and no throttling. Battery 5-7 hrs

The upgradability of this laptop is also crazy too, upgrading the RAM to 32 GBs is something that's easy to do yourself and you can pop in a 1 TB Samsung EVO that would be faster than the stock SSD as well. 4 Lanes of PCIe through thunderbolt also means that you can easily attach an eGPU better than the highest mobile 1050 inside it if you need the GPU performance which also helps the longevity of the machine.

Thanks Matt for the review. I am contemplating upgrading from XPS 13 with 16GB ram to the XPS 15 I7 9750 with 32GB ram. Edit using Premiere pro and after effects. Will there be any speed benefit when rendering if I opted for the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650, 4 GB, GDDR5 graphics card?. I always use 1080p footage and output to the same. Thanks in advance and also for the great contant on your channel.

Just got mine after trying to edit 4K with my MB Pro from 2013. And I got it totally loaded. I am very happy that I got it. Having used Mac forever and apple produces I could not see spending $2000 more for something equal to the machine. Apple is just trying to make us pay way more so it looks like there profits are still up to their stock holders and they are selling product like they use to do. I’ts time for people to quit kissing apples sweet core (he he) and get one that is cheaper but better. One thing you did not mention was it is up gradeable. Just unscrew the back!!!!!! Congrats on the beautiful baby.

How does an Asus q536fd stack up to this Dell xps you speak of? Also in Cores and threads? I ask because I have no idea I was given a deal on this 4k Asus laptop for 1,000.00 and according to best buy it was released last fall. Your input is very much appreciated thank you!

Great video. I have the i7 model. 9570. The support is fantastic, I had an engineer out only last week due to a faulty fan and WiFi. The only thing I would say is I cannot scrub or edit 4K video as smoothly as I would like in Premiere. Most of my video is from a DJI Phantom 4 at 60FPS but even lower 24FPS is a drag. Are you able to edit and scrub smoothly?

Nice! That's so great to hear about the repairs. That Phantom 4 60fps footage is most likely shot in h.265 which is going to slow down even the most powerful systems. Your best option is to create proxies for that footage. :)

Can someone please help me, I bought this laptop and I've been having a lot of trouble keeping the colors when I transfer files. Primarily, I edit photos/videos on the XPS 9570 4kUHD but when I transfer via drop box to my Iphone the colors are so dull and they look so bad. I have to OVER Saturate on the laptop and it looks really bad, to make it look decent when the file transfers over. Does anyone know of anything that can potentially help me? This is really Frustrating and im thinking about returning this and going to Macbook because of this... HELP
