Side note: You (who ever reads this) could cloned the drive using macurum reflect before swapping out the SSD. To make it easer, get a external M.2 empty case install the new drive in said external case then plug it into the USB port. Clone the drive, then swap them out (take the drive out of case and take old drive out of laptop then swap). Then take your old drive and install it into the external case and now you have a portable M.2 drive. Also you can help friends out if they want to make the swap later on using the external case.

Wow. I really love this video because I did the same update on an XPS 9530 around the same time you created this video, and I also did the same thing you did with the 500GB SSD that came with the laptop (I used it as an external hard drive). If I had seen this video before doing the update, I would have felt more confident about performing the update, but in the end everything works fine. Thank you for being just the way you are... I love your vibe!!!

I was a certified technician for a variety of brands for 10 years and am now a consultant for research scientists (but still do plenty of pc repairs and upgrades) and there is no reason to disconnect the battery for these upgrades. so long as you make sure that the computer is off before you begin, there shouldn't be any risky power going through any parts you would be working in and around. so long as you don't go licking traces, you'll be fine. m.2 drives, ram, and wifi cards can easily and properly be installed without disconnecting the battery.

There was no need to physically REMOVE the battery, but it is prudent to DISCONNECT the battery when swapping out any MB-connected hardware. It just isn't worth the possibility of any current to flow through the system while working on it.

I enjoyed the video; simple, informative and fun. I actually plan to do the same with my older 9560, including an undervolt and cpu/gpu repaste. It would’ve been nice to see you do the same while you were in there. The difference it made to my spectre x360 was surprising. Also, you’d have had a much easier time by just cloning the drive and writing the iso to the new drive. Additionally I’d like to quickly counter a point you made around the 1:00 minute mark; the existing SSD is *very* fast, and whilst the incredible 970pro you installed is significantly faster, you wouldn’t notice in normal operation, only in very specific workloads, and synthetic benchmarks. One nitpick aside it was a dope video, so thanks.

To all: before following Sara's step, please 1. install Macrium Reflect (free software) 2. Use Macrium Reflect to clone your existing SSD data to your new SSD (which mean copy the exactly the same data to your new SSD, but don't try using only copy & paste, use this software) 3. Follow Sara's step (until installing window) 4. Power on and enjoy.

I use up the whole 16GB RAM with just Lightroom and Photoshop open at the same time so expanding to 32GB will prevent it from crashing. For vid, Premiere Pro, having that expanded and faster storage space really gives a boost in loading media and editing.

in regards to old drivers when the new hardware is good to go, specifically the wifi card. My question is I know you need to remove the old wifi card drivers but do I additionally need to remove the Bluetooth ones aswell?

Disconnecting the battery is not required, but if you are going to, you might as well hold down the power button to dissipate any charge in the capacitors :)

On Matebook pro x u can't edit video up then 1080p, Dell xps 9570 i7 8750h, 32gb ram 4k screen would rock it! And just keep in mind you need this 6 core processors becouse of 4k editing. (which i7 8750H has)

The Samsung SSDs come with cloning software which works really well. You just need a USB - SSD adaptor and you can clone your disk image onto the new SSD so that when you turn it back on after the switch you can pick up where you left off on the new drive without wasting hours reinstalling all your software.

Great Video Sara.. So glad you use both PC AND MAC. I use Alienware for Editing on Premiere Pro and Mac Pro for FCPX edits :)
