A very 1840s Christmas Holiday dress
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I made a 1840s dress for Christmas for myself using McCall's pattern 7988! I added long sleeves to the pattern to make it more suitable for winter. This is the first part of the two-part series. The next video on making the accessories for the dress will come soon!

Beautiful dress! I love the simple lines of the 1840s - especially after the craziness of the 1830s!
You look like a very proper Victorian lady. I love the dress, it's just right for a Christmas dress. Your outdoor shots remind me of growing up in the mountains of Colorado. Thank you.

Thank you! I wish we had mountains like in Colorado, although we do have lots of smaller hills.
i love this dress design, and the bonus spinning demonstration at the end. you did a great job!
Such a beautiful dress and it suits you perfectly. Your attention to detail is to be commended. Love the colours and can't wait for the accessories video. Thanks

Thank you!
What a lovely dress! I rarely see 1840s recreations, so this was a real treat. Extra points for matching the plaid! BTW, I once lived in Labrador Canada - it looks very much like Finland - very beautiful in winter. Thank you for this video gift!

Thank you! I’m glad you noticed a spot where it matched! I mainly notice those parts where it doesn’t! It’s always a bit tricky, especially with printed plaids!
This turned out so beautiful! I love the 1840’s and I love the everyday quality of your dress. You did such a lovely job!

That’s great! I hope you end up making it!
absolut gorgeous!!! Thank you for sharing, it is a real ... Augenweide (the translator says "eye candy", but it really isn´t it, it´s something like a beautiful meadow in spring or early summer, a bliss for one´s eyes). The colour is perfect for you ❤

Thank you! Autumny colours have always worked for me.
The fabric is so cute! I'm glad you didn't have to individually stitch every pleat down Twice though haha Can't wait to see the accessories :D
1840 is not my favourite time in fashion.. but they are putting on A Christmas carol at the theatre this Christmas..

Kiitos!
I’m curious about how you secured the center front if the bodice to the skirt. Is it tacked down by hand?

The waistband ribbon is sewn by hand to the lining of the skirt. I may have forgotten to include that in the video. It might be a good idea to tack it on from the lower edge at some point but thus far I haven’t bothered.
Aivan ihana❤
