Once again the native English speaker giving us tips on how to think about the Spanish in terms of English. This technique has helped me so much I feel like I'm finally getting over the hump that I've worried about for a couple of months now. Gracias maestro.

I'm glad it is working for you. I believe that the problem with the majority of Spanish courses is that they ignore that the students already speak a language. That language is their paradigm and they will naturally compare the new language with their own. How is it similar? How is it different? I embrace the fact that the students already know a language -- in this case English. I use that existing knowledge to help them learn the new language faster and explain the tougher aspects of the language in a way that an English speaker will understand. I guess I teach this way because I learned it on my own and this is what worked for me.

@@QrooSpanish My Mexican husband speaks English well but still makes mistakes. I can tell from those mistakes how you say something in Spanish. I already speak Spanish but still make mistakes, and I use his mistakes to remind me of how you say some things in Spanish. So that perspective is very helpful! (I have a book somewhere called something like “French for English Speakers.”)
My husband, who’s Mexican, and I love your lessons. Helps me with Spanish, helps him to understand English better. We live in MX and are always sharing your vids with expats. Well done and muchísimas gracias, amigo! Que tengan un buen viaje.

This formerly lost “duolinguist working through subjunctive” is incredibly grateful. I feel like you have really given a boost to my understanding. I’ve read my textbooks on mood, but you have clarified the murk. Gracias!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! These videos that give us concrete and practical examples of how and when to use phrases that just DON'T translate sensibly in English are just SO, SO valuable in helping me to feel like I make sense when I'm trying to talk with Spanish speakers. Truly inspiring. 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Paul - I just want to say that the structure of your lessons is fantastic. In particular, the exercises in translating whole sentences is hugely beneficial as it requires you to draw upon things you've learned from other lessons and put it all together. As well as this, it is the true test of whether you have truly understood the concept being introduced. Keep up the good work!

Love when you have us do exercises! Love your style of teaching. It’s helping me A LOT!
I have been studying Spanish off and on since 1986 starting with courses at the US Foreign Service Institute. qroo Paul explains how to use the subjunctive better than anyone I have encountered.
Hola. Everytime i look at your video, it inspire me to go on, i love it. Thanks .

the subjunctive present is a handful for learners. 1st you have to learn rules, triggers, etc. 2nd you have to learn the conjugation of the verb. 3rd the conjugation of irregular verbs. So studying and practicing is a super must. quiero que vengas digas comas abras etc!!!!!!! Good Stuff
I vote for the exercises and examples. Sometimes I put them into Anki cards.
Thank you for sharing! I love it. You get to the point without unnecessarily fluff. Perfect!

Hola Paul, Soy de Canada y habló francés. He descubierto tu canal hace unos meses y quiero agradecerte por la calidad de tus videos que son muy útiles en mi aprendizaje del idioma. Y como la mayoría de la gente, el subjuntivo es una espina en culo, jajaja! Pero gracias a tí, estoy mejorando mi español cada día más 😊

Definitely enjoying the exercises in the videos for practice, followed by your explanations and things to notice, especially the nuances between English and Spanish. Please continue to make lessons about the subjunctive mode. Thank you!
The exercises are superb! I can test my understanding and get practice and as you definitely know feeling you getting the pattern, and testing and having a chance to practice are two different things! Love the precise, but not wordy way that you explain concepts!
This is honestly the best explanation of the subjunctive that I personally have encountered. I’m not going to be able to watch your videos again for awhile and I hope when I return I find even more great videos like these

WOW! Mind blown! 🤯 I know you from you other videos. I saw one previous Spanish lesson and just caught these last two. I figured I'd eventually understand what the subjunctive was but this brought me so much closer in such a short time. Bravo Señor! I'll be heading back to the start to watch them all. Thank you. I have two years before I am living in a Spanish speaking place TBD. Or Malaysia. But probably Mexico or Colombia.

Bro thank you so much. I finally understand present tense subjunctive. I couldnt find any good resrouces that werent overly confusing. Yet i would hear these words and when i would ask my spanish native friends to explain vaya in english they couldnt explain it because it was simply natural to them.
Gracias Qroo Paul.👍 Quiero que sigas haciendo vídeos tan informativos y útiles.🎯

This was very helpful. I’ve wanted to say these things but not known how to construct the proper sentences because subjunctive comes later in all the resources I use to study. You explain it clearly, and the exercises were useful. So glad I recently found your channel.

Oh, yes. I plan to. The subjunctive is a huge topic and I think that breaking it down into bite-size chunks like this is the best way to learn it.
I am so glad I have found this channel. After months of trying to get my head around the present subjunctive this video has helped me understand it. You have explained it so well. Thank you. Hi. Thank you for making your videos. They are very helpful indeed. The interactive exercises are very important for me. I cannot learn very much passively… and especially not a language! I have recently found your videos and they are encouraging to me to not let what I have learned thus far in Spanish go to waste, but to persist onward with Spanish. The excercises are very challenging and also helpful. It goes just a tad fast for me at this point, but that shows me what I need to work on, I guess…I am still learning off your videos, and this one in particular I found super helpful… Gracias, from a rusty Spanish language learner!
I like the practice part too, it makes me think! Love your channel
