I've been building LS engines for many years and I am thankful that I was taught this trick early on in the game. It takes some of the thought out of the work. This, coupled with many other habits adds up to what I call a systematic way of guaranteeing the desired result. It's a trivial and simplified approach to assembling the piston/rod assemblies before installing them into your engine.
