Hello and welcome to Nikon Film.
Today's episode deals with an aspect that is rarely considered when looking at a venerable and legendary camera.
In today's world, where people love their oppression and worship technologies that take away their ability to think and diminish their critical faculties to the point where they are no longer able to distinguish between what feels good and what is true; in a world in which we are slipping into darkness -almost without realizing it … it is refreshing to return to an epoch when technology only stood for things that “work.”
It's evocative to feel in your hands, not a device that will become obsolete in next four months, but actually holding a wealth of experiences… in the shape of a camera.
Where this camera come from? In the drawers of how many homes has it rested? What photographs have it documented? Were they amused lovers? The misery or the evasive happiness of war? Tribes of preaching trees? Unspeakable secrets, deserted streets, prostitutes, politicians, hobos..?.
What were their owners like? Young and cheerful? Old and relaxed? Travelers, spies, explorers, or just people like you and me?
Was it used to preserve a story, or to create a story? Did it document beautiful, naked secrets, or just amazing journeys? The memory of a father, serious but amused, looking at the sunset, or a first and unforgettable love?
We will never know. But we can sense that these cameras have lived many lives. They have seen, over the decades, tears and joy. Culture and disaster. They have, impassively, stayed in the background, letting humans being humans. And they are still here to do their job.
If you are watching this video, you might be able to feel that personal aspect of each Nikon F.
They have a life of their own.

Just got one, mint condition. Made the month I turned 19, in 1971. My first real camera & I just turned 71. One beautiful camera.
In 2026 I will have used my Nikon F's for 60 years. Traveled the world and went through countless rolls of film. One was in a car wreck that bent the filter's rim but not the lens rim. They still work like they did when new and have never been repaired or CLA'd.

She is a mechanical marvel made to last.
Excellent video 😊! Journalist favourite duo: 35mm & 135mm.
This hits hard.
I have both an F and F2. Other than my Hasselblad they are the most solidly built cameras I have ever used. I’m 72 now and I know they will continue working long after I’m gone

Thanks to you! Have a good day!
Awesome images and a fitting tribute to a legendary camera the Nikon F. I have a collection of older National Geographic magazines from the early 1960's up through 1980's and I'd hazard a guess that a good portion of the images were taken with Nikon cameras as I look through those magazines those photos are amazing no matter what equipment was used to capture them. I have a Nikon F with Photomic Ftn metering head circa 1971 love using it and having a piece of photographic equipment history.

Thank you very much for your kind opinion. 75% of the images that appear in the video (obviously not those of Miss Monroe) are slides taken with my Nikon F during my life and my travels, in which the National Geographic was always a source of inspiration. The dialogue is entirely of our own making. 90% of the sequences have been shot by us with digital means... we had no other solution... They really are machines with which one maintains an indelible bond, forged over the decades.
A real awesome tribute!
