The Nikon F (1959-1973)
is considered the first modern, professional SLR and gave the rangefinders of its day a run for their money. The apogee of Japanese technical innovation and design of the late fifties, it was the first true SLR camera system. The F was the tool of professionals for decades, and was the blueprint for many later iterations and models.
Still very usable today, since it will fit almost all nikon F lenses and a myriad of finders, winders and accesories. As expected, it’s a great all round camera.

This was my very first Nikon as a teenager back in 1972. Got it used, (don't remember what lens it had?) I learned a lot with it. I'm a grandfather today and I still use Nikon. Thanks for the memories!!!
You should make more videos. This is very well done.
Fantastic overview! I have this same model from 1968. Got mine from a science lab that was clearing out equipment, so it’s in very good condition since it’s never been outside a lab environment. Thanks for helping me get started!
The presentation is good The buff background is great for allowing the instrument to stand out And the commentary is enjoyable to listen to
I have used the Nikon F for many years with five lenses, first in a college photography class that was challenging as we need to develop many rolls per week and present our best images each week. To the point, the Nikon F has been designed so well, one only has to put the lens on, if fact of my many years of using the Nikon F, I never looked any the number on the face of the prism. As an experiment try just putting the lens on without trying to ”index” it. I’m sure you’ll find the Japanese Designers already did it for you with their excellent design. If I’m wrong, I’ll eat my lens cap.
Thank you for making this video, my sister and I have our Dad’s camera which has been sitting in the leather case for years because the dials are overwhelming but this video is handy for knowing what’s what on the camera 📷
Thanks. That was very thorough!
Very good video! Thanks
Amazing video ❤
Thanks for making this video! It’s very helpful.
hi - could you explain further setting the "chosen" film speed and aperture?
I have one identical to the one in this video..mine dates from late 1971/early 1972 from the body serial number. Wonderful 'tank' of a camera. One thing to be aware of..they used the now obsolete mercury batteries (batteries are necessary to power the light meter only). I found battery adapters which have built-in voltage adjusters to allow for use of modern equivalent silver oxide batteries. Mine works perfectly with those adapters.

Where did you find that adapter? And how does that work? My lightmeter is not working and I suspect it is because of the modern batteries.

Where did you find these batteries and adapter.
I have one like that on my bookshelf, with the original ever ready case, in leather!
Hi there! Awesome video. Do you know why my camera was working perfect and when I tried with film at first work well and suddenly the shooter is stuck. I remove the lenses for a closer look to the shooter and is stuck
Very informative video! Now I can use my camera
I bought this view finder on ebay but i have an early model Nikon F and it's not fitting into place can you tell me if it's compatable or not did i buy the wrong viewfinder?

The early F bodies have a narrower opening at the back by the eyepiece where the prism fits so newer prisms will not be compatible as they are too wide.
Hello. Question, this camera offers a setting for either 20 or 36 exposures. What if you have a roll with 24 exposures or 12?? Thx

Hi, thanks for your question. I would set it to whatever is closest to the exposure count on your filmstock and keep an eye on the counter. The camera won’t advance past the last frame, regardless of what setting you have selected.

Always nice to see videos of cameras. I don't have Nikon F so not totally sure about this but.. When you attached the lense which had maximum aperture 2 the viewfinder shows with the red mark almost 1.2. I think the red dot should be in the middle between 2.8 and 1.2?
Hi I can't seem to figure out how to change the ASA on the meter. You kindof skip over it in the video

pull from the asa dial and rotate at the same time to your desired asa, sometimes its a bit difficult to do but still doable
Your explanation of the depth of field was not accurate. Not explained properly.
