A Tribue to Michael Angelis

I'm an American so one would think I wouldn't know about Michael Angelis, but I remember getting the New Friends for Thomas video as a kid and watching it for the first time. Immediately, the loud English accent was quite jarring when I was expecting Baldwin but when I got to the end of the DVD, I quite liked him. And I was confused as to why I never saw him again. That is, until I started watching Thomas on KZread many years later and realized that the UK had a different dub. Michael had huge shoes to fill after Ringo, but he managed to surpass them in my opinion. Here's a tribute to the longest narrator of Thomas and Friends after learning about his passing.

If 2020 was a person, I'd disown them. This man ain't dead, he's just hiding in Sodor. Why is 2020 so damn malicious?! Godspeed,Mr. Angelis. You'll always have trains (and humans!) behind your back.

I never realized how great of a narrator (and actor) Michael Angelis was until after he passed away. Love how you made this video in the style of “the many sounds of Michael Angelis.” Many ppl are making music videos to tribute Michael Angelis, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but I think what you did here is better Rest in peace, Angelis

This is really sad when I was growing up TTTE was my favorite show on tv and a huge part of my childhood. TTTE was where my own love for narration and storytelling begin and what really sparked my imagination and a lot of that had to do with Michael Angelis' voice it was so iconic and memorable and when you listened to him telling the story of another TTTE episode it actually felt like you were being told a story and it gripped your attention in a vice-like grip and didn't release it until the ending credits. In my mind, he will always be my favorite narrator of all time. May he rest in peace and forever remain in our hearts.

I’m so sad to hear he’s gone. Like you, hearing Michael on the New Friends for Thomas tape when it first came out in 2004 was certainly a big change when my 11 year old self popped in the tape, but towards the end, his voice grew on me. I was surprised to hear him suddenly disappear on the Steamies vs Diesels tape when it came out, but I instantly recognized his voice again when I listened to the original UK narrations (and let me tell you, before hearing more of the UK narrations, I had no idea Thomas was a British show; I know, I’m gonna sound American for saying that 😅) and grew attached to it. This was a great tribute. I’ll forever miss him.

I'm italian there wasn't any TV channel that put on Thomas and Friends, so my mother downloaded episodes of the series in the UK version, and hearing the narrator made me always happy, I learned a good part of my english with this cartoon, and all the episodes were with him as the narrator, obviously I haven't been seeing the series for a long time, but sometimes I spend a few minutes watching some episodes I used to watch, when I heard about his death, I realized the big role he had in my childhood. He'll be missed by many, others won't remember, but he certainly will be honored by anyone who loves the series. RIP Michael Angelis

Having been born in the 90's I only watched a few season 1 & 2 episodes through re-runs, seasons 3 to 5 were what I mostly watched, also some 6-7 episodes as they aired. Michael Angelis will always be the narrator I remember the most! He will be missed for me, even though I can always re-watch his narrations!

I remember getting the New Friends for Thomas video back in 2004. I was like 5 or 6. When I popped the video in I was surprised to hear someone else telling the story other than Starr, Carlin, or Baldwin. It made me think this video was made for a special occasion. Little did I know the narrator of that video has had much more affiliation with Thomas than any other narrator on the show. Thank you Angelis. May your legacy be remembered by many Thomas fans. Mainly those in the UK.
