Hi Justin. I really enjoy your videos! I will be going to turkmenistan in 10 days time, really looking forward to it now. I will be staying at the same hotel as you did, and also visiting the market you mentioned. Thanks for the videos.

Depends what kind of experience you want. I visited Uzbekistan a few years ago and planning for Turkmenistan this summer. Ashgabat is rather unique with its modern architecture (if you like such, consider also Astana in Kazakhstan) but if you are interested in Silk Road feeling, go for Uzbekistan as there are more and bigger historic sites (Khiva, Samarkand, Bukhara). I would have thought that Uzb has more Central Asian feeling, but that is a pure feelingwithout the personal experience by now.

Macdeep That makes no sense. Although. The United states of America is the wealthiest country in the world. Our people live free. We never have to fear being beaten or killed for speaking our mind. Your ruler or dictator is a complete DICK HEAD. you cant admit it but I can. He thinks he's so great at everything he does. I challenge him to anything and everything. And I'd bet my fortune against his fortune I can beat him like a dog in everything he chooses. I can make him look like the fool he actually is.

So close to Iran just 30KM away. A tourist can't leave the city without reporting to Ministry of Immigration. You have to go according to schedule on a tourist visa. Soviet style tactics for getting a visa.

You are right ! Simon Bolivar was a liberator and the people seems to praise him even if he was president for life. Charle V was a divine right king (correct me if i'm wrong) and he was known to be generous , devoted to the poor and gentle. to a certain extent , Caius Julius Caesar, was glorified during his reign and extent the life of the empire for several years, even if he was a dictator then a dictator for life.

Hey guys, im trying to decide between Turmenistan and Uzbekistan. I hear Uzbekistan has more historical sites like Samarqand and Bukhara, but it is also much more under lingering communist Russian influence, where Turkmenistan is a better picture of Central Asia? which one should i choose?

I wish you have enjoyed your time there! You look so worried and I can understand that. Hope you had a good guide there! As you might have noticed, you definitely need someone who actually can explain you the city and culture and obviously sights. Its not just quite similar like those tourist cities in Central Asian cities are quite different. Dont bother those bad comments as always trying to express their feelings by commenting only by word rather than contributing it. Let me know definetely.

@totoledjay : Countries aren't dictator, Dictator aren't all bad. Not only of Democracy is good look at Africa: specific West and East Africa in Comparison to the most recent country that almost compared to dictatorship in Africa, South Africa. West and East African Countries have Democracy but are far worse off than South African or Turkemenistan. Consider this constructive-criticism.

I agree with you, Uzbekistan is probobly where i will go. Turkmenistan and even Khazakstan looks very uniform and depressing ( no offense to anyone !) as one would expect a country under dictatorial rule, it didnt seems like a tourist place. While UZbekistan has similar problems, it has more beautiful pre-Communist era buildings and historical significance.
