The beauty of mycelium on agar is another part of the mycological journey that brings me joy. Your JMF plate really got my attention! I don't know what caused the initial "wonky" growth, but the image of the mycelium, as a whole, looks to me like an exquisite relief carving of the Tree of Life. I was not, nor am I now, high, and I ain't real crazy, but I am still enthralled by the image created by some wonky JMF mycelium. With a little basic editing, that's an image to hang on your wall and blow the minds of all your friends. Life is full of wonders. Peace and Mush Love.

Great collection, I'm really interested in watching Mycelium grow on plates. It's the best way to keep busy waiting for the other part 😂

I had two Natalensis MS plates do the same thing as your JMF, such a strange, but satisfying thing. I thought they looked like Spartan helmets. Made it quite easy to choose where to take transfers from

Absolutely gorgeous specimens! I have to say I'm quite jealous. I'm very new to the world of mycology, but I have been learning at a very rapid Pace and I've had a very successful first flush so far. I would love to learn more about agar plates and stuff like that. So far I've made a sport print and I've made some liquid culture using my first batch. Hagar plates are Something I have not delved into quite yet.

Welcome aboard! Agar plates aren't necessary but they're a great step for people looking to up their game even more. Plus they're super fun :) I remember how intimidating they can be when you're brand new though.

@4:52 Hi bro, stumbled here randomly. Please verify what I say: mycelia from spores etc tend to be haploid, occasionally they combine with the opposite mating type and form a diploid. Diploids grow much more vigorously. I think new cultivars are made by screening the out comes of different mating events which produce new interesting genetics. These are then carried over to spore and a new line is established.

Hey tman! You've done a great job summarizing some key aspects of fungal genetics and cultivation. You're right that mycelium from spores are generally haploid, carrying a single set of chromosomes, and under certain conditions, can meet and combine with a mycelium of the opposite mating type. This fusion can lead to the formation of a diploid state, which in some fungi, may exhibit more vigorous growth due to the combination of genetic material. It can be quite complicated though. I am no expert on the genetics side lol.

Super interesting. I have some cultures that were isolated but sometimes the growth isn't symmetrical. Really throws me off.

So that first plate is from mss but did you do a agar transfer to that’s plate? You didn’t shoot spores on that plate it was the first plate you did that to correct?
