A Timeline History of Roland Juno Synths, 1982 to Today: What's the Difference?

Музыка

The Roland Juno was a groundbreaking synthesizer with an instantly recognizable sound. And while original Juno's remain some of the most sought after vintage synths on the market, there have been quite a few variations through the years. In this video, we take a look at many of the Juno models Roland has released through the years. Find them all on Reverb here: bit.ly/3OulzW3

The world is cruel and unjust for the later releases of the Juno and Jupiter series. Roland barely acknowledges the Jupiter-6 and always states it's a "scaled down Jupiter-8" and the alpha Junos are mentionned NOWHERE

Thanks for the flash back. I wish Roland would come out with a remake of the MSQ-100 Digital Keyboard Recorder. It was easy to use 6500 notes, after touch, velocity sensitive, 16 channels and tracks etc. Amazing for its time.

ALPHA Juno is highly underrated with a programmer.

Well you kinda forgot about the System 8 that (in later stages) came pre-programmed with the Juno 106 Plug-Out and recently the Juno 60 was released as a Plug-Out for the System 8. And than there is all the VST recreations, and the before 2 mentioned too by Roland it self. Still, I didn't know there were so many variants! Cool video!

The folks who are still pining for a modern take on the Juno that isn’t a vst in a box should just get a Super 6. A very familiar and retro what-you-see-is-what-you-get interface, a core tone that is more than capable of those shimmery, smooth Juno tones, but with a greatly expanded sound design palette. And with the feeling of a beautifully designed piece of hardware.

great video but one thing the Juno 60 has 76 patches of memory you just hold down the five bank and press one or two(66-76)

I love the thick sounds my Juno 60 can make. Turning on both waveforms, sub osc and chorus can create thickness that rivals my Jupiter 8. Even in dual mode. Also see HS-60 which a slightly different version of the Juno 106S.

All Juno models ? This video is incomplete: in 2010 Roland introduced the Juno GI, with a new sound engine, 8 track hardware recorder, 79 effects, 1300 sounds, etc. I was able to 100% match the best sounds of my Juno 106 with the GI. I still use the GI daily for the last 12 years.

The modern Roland products are just FPGA based VST players. The final kicker for me is that they're not even well designed or built VST players, on a circuit level. If they'd spent just a little bit more time and money designing the board and on component choices they could have a much more reliable and better sounding product. If you need to play live and want these sounds then it's a different matter, but for everyone else you may as well just use plugins natively in the box.

The Juno-X - while far better than the vomit-worthy unrelated Juno-D/DS/G/etc - is a sham. The Zen Core+ABM system in no way offers accuracy in emulating 106, 60, Jupiter-8 etc. It's like finding a biker called Barry in a bar, giving him a latex Marilyn Monroe mask.. and asking him to sing to the president The System-8 using ACB to do Juno 60 and 106 is the best modern digital Juno.. the same component level modeling of the original circuits as in the boutiques but running at 96khz

The Jupiter 80, which was basically an integra at the heart, had emulators of many junos too.

The Jupiter-80 is a Supernatural synth, so much in the way Zen Core does.. it's just a bunch of "Juno" named patches that sound close from a generic VA engine that tries to sound somewhat like Roland's classic analogue sound. Biker Barry without the mask this time (ABM template), but some nice make-up. Don't get me wrong I like Supernatural-S and Zen Core as stand alone VA engines, as their own thing - but they shouldn't be used to claim any sort of worthwhile emulation of the classic analogue Juno line these days

Holy shit $3700 for a synth? thats fucking insane, I'm glad I own a Juno 60 and I didn't paid a third of that price
