    You don't want monster tread when you do as much sand driving as Matt does, the big tread blocks dig up the sand instead of rolling along the top. He's said in other videos that the tyres now are pretty much the perfect amount of wear.

    @@gwot where the driveshaft enters the diff, it is offset up or down. A low pinion is on the bottom and a high pinion is the high point.

    You're kinda both right. The XJ has what's called a "un" which is a unibody welded to a solid frame, rather than having body pieces bolted to a frame like traditional BoF.

    I got lost on KZread and found this channel. I'm glad I got lost because this is awesome to watch. It's nice to see a team of professionals doing offroad recovery. Even the most extreme situations You guys are calm and organised. Much better than the fake drama and scripted scenarios on reality tv shows from platforms like netflix.

    Watching this again (and many others) after today's video about Lizzy moving on to the family farm, she will be missed on this channel, but, what a privilege to watch her grow and thrive under the MORR family tutelage. You taught her well, Matt and Jaymie!! Hopefully, she will stop in from time to time, but, I know how life gets in the way sometimes.

    We used to core sample for prospectors, build and repair their equipment, the kind you see on Gold Rush and occasionally prospect for people. A lot of old timers like him are still waiting to hit the "mother load" with all kinds of theories why but sadly 99.9% mine away every cent over and over without any real return for various reasons. Gold fever is no joke, it's as bad as heroin for a lot of these guys.

    When it comes to sand, air pressure is key. I go anywhere i want in the Oregon dunes and i have a 2wd Tacoma. Air down, choose your route wisely and let her eat.

    These vehicles failed because electronic traction control cut power to the drivetrain. It's amazing on ice, worthless in sand. You're brave taking a 2wd pickup in the dunes. I like that.

    @@gwot traction control is good for stupids in rain who don't slow down and useless pretty much the rest of the time. It wouldnt be so bad if you can turn it off but these days off doesnt really even mean off anymore which sucks.

    The sand is basically your best friend for easier work unlike the persons stuck in the really steep stuff. Glad to hear you are using Dana 60 axles. I went to chrome moly stub axles, cost more to buy but never had to replace one so great way to go. Thanks Matt and great crew.

    That Banana makes me miss my "97 XJ so much. It was a gas hawg but it'd take you anywhere, in any conditions, AND bring you back! It had a front locker, 3" lift and 31x10.5x15 BFG's. That's it. Was totaled when I was rear ended at a traffic light. Now I'm depressed and going to make some hot chocolate for comfort, lol.

    I'm never ceased to be amazed at how much softer sand gets as the temperature warms up then you get stuck and even if you wait for it to cool down and firm up it's unlikely to get unstuck. Great video.

    Hey Matt. Try using a old tire between two tow ropes when yanking out a stuck car. The variable tension works great and prevents any damage.

    Keep up the much needed work Matt and crew. Visitors want to explore and see America and they do not understand the conditions of the back roads. They often do not think to carry enough food, water and supplies with them to venture out on back roads in case they get lost or stuck. There are very sad cases of people dying or disappearing because they got in to trouble with their vehicles on back roads, especially using a GPS.

    @@sabr5162 I know of a lot of contractors who use them. Also 2wd is better for towing. That's what my old company, oilfield services, used to tow trailers out to locations.

    @@IronmanV5 I would rather tow with 4WD. 4WD trucks are built tougher...suspension is beefier...all of it is just better. The pros of 4WD out way the cons.

    @@mikefoehr235 We had went with 4wd at first, but according to my boss and the drivers they kept having drive line problems (transfer case and especially differentials). Those went away when they went with 2wd. In fact I was warned to never try to move the trailer with my truck, F250 4x4, as it would damage the drive train by several of our drivers.

    Which brings up more questions.. 1. Do both cars split a single recovery fee? 2. Does the 2nd car on the rope charge the third car a recovery fee? 3. Does the 3rd car charge the 2 cars ahead a rope pushing fee? 4. Are masks required in the middle of the desert? 5. Do those kids wear masks when they sleep? 6. Is Ed's replacement part time? ( Look out Ed! She's purtier than you!) 7. Can Matt retire on just the income off that sandy road?

    I loved the Tesla’s owners answer. We didn’t know there was sand here. Uhhh you’re in the desert, that isn’t asphalt your driving on there Hass, from the instant you left the highway it was solid sand. And you’re in the middle of nowhere in a car that’s 3” off the ground with skinny street tires. But it’s okay it has AWD. 🤦‍♂️

    I find it interesting when people say things like "take care of our car" or " please go slow" and yet they decided to take it down a sandy back road to then get it buried. Metaphorically speaking, you can't run your car off of a cliff and then ask the people recovering it to be careful with what remains.

    @The Weapon Collection So what do you towing a trailer and get stuck? I know off guys who have boats...4WD is way better at a boat launch. 4WD can really get you stuck but you have a chance to get out with 4WD. Living in Canada....winter...2WD pickup is as close to useless as it gets. I know from personal experience.

    Man...you hit that nail dead centre. 4WD is way more practical. Especially in an off road situation. 4WD also improves braking distance by a wide margin in slippery conditions...like snow for example. Watch Team O'Neil driving school and search thru the list...proves it with a Tacoma and an F250 4X4.

    @@mikefoehr235 yes its better just to get 4wd especially in the snow areas. I have a Chevy Colorado z71 with a locker as well so i never have problems. I also run k02s and they are a great all terrain. Ive drivin in sand, mud and snow never have gotten stuck

    Regarding pulling in reverse vs forward: one has to remember that the Banana is a purpose built rig camouflaged as an XJ. Add years of experience and the knowledge of the terrain and that makes Matt and the team a bunch of magicians.
