Great rundown Sal, much appreciated. I've lived in Ukraine a decade (Ukrainian wife) and I only found out about your chan when Ward Carroll suggested his viewers sub to yours. Been a faithful viewer ever since. I'm mostly an aerospace fan, but ships (and trains) also interest me greatly. Engineering marvels that move a lot of tonnage. I'll give you some help with "Novorossiysk" - you pronounced it "Novo-risk" - no big deal, I'll give you some phonetics to improve that - NOR--VOR-ROW-SISK - say that quickly and you'll be close enough! 😉👍

Surprisingly amazing content. I have been aware of the shipping/import process through my own manufacturing business while at the same time being anti globalist due to the ultimate unsustainability of the trajectories. I guess that makes me a bit of a hypocrite as well. I hope your videos are shown to students everywhere to give them something to ponder. Do we really need to import/export chicken and drinking straws all over the plant just to save a dime while ignoring the impacts that are conveniently glossed over. It seems that the more centralized the supply market becomes, the potentially less resilient societies become. BTW I came over from Banolirio Cheers Bubba!

Early in the war we were all horrified that the Russians were destroying the infrastructure of Ukraine and shipping all of the heavy equipment home. If that really happened there can't be so much production going on right now. And with those labor shortage and the bombed out areas. There can't be anything to send!

Hmm, what could we do that would prompt the Houthis to stop their attacks?

Yes, but doesn't China own most of the Ports that ships now go past or through? Isn't these new shipping diversions giving more power. Choke hold coming around Australia and up near Vietnam coming.

Is there any honest broker third party that could bring these two sides to a negotiation table?

The US doesn't want Russia and Ukraine to negotiate an end to the proxy war which is very much related to the expansion of the Nuclear Annihilation Threatening Organization.

Military surface vessels are a thing of the past. Russia (or perhaps Ukraine/Nato) proved this. I am sure many people think the Russia Navy is inept but the fact of the matter is that any Navy is going have extreme trouble in a peer to peer fight. Air and sea based drones, missiles (hypersonic) and of course satellites... In WW2 even just finding an Aircraft carrier was difficult. But if I had to guess we now all know where each others capital ships are at all times using satellites.. perhaps extended cloud cover could maybe help you evade satellites but the tech might exist to keep track of a 200 million pounds floating in an ocean even with cloud cover. And you can also flood the ocean with sensors and get real time data if a huge wake is being thrown up by something.
