I was born in the 1970's... I went through your middle age shock some time ago. In the 1980's the Internet was a concept of science fiction, but it was a real dream for me. As a boy I dreamt of streaming cinema, but I predicted/placed it after my death, somewhere around 2080, I'm glad the tech evolved much sooner.🙂 I envy the kids of today, that where born with mobile phones, affordable home computers under 5000 €, Wikipedia (no need to look through 100 old paper books, when you have access to the equivalent of 100 million books), etc. But no flying cars yet...🤔

The funny thing about this album art is that the picture is prophetic. That baby (Spencer Elden) used his stardom of being "the Nevermind baby" to get chicks when he grew up, got a big Nevermind logo tattoo on his chest and recreated the album art in photoshoots several times. But recently, just before the 30th anniversary of Nevermind, he suddenly sued Nirvana for using and exploiting him on the cover. He's definitely chasing that buck, just like on the album art!😁

“Nevermind” was part of a group of releases that came out in a span of just six weeks, the others being Metallica’s self-titled “black album,” Pearl Jam’s “Ten” (a reference to Mookie Blaylock), both of Guns N Roses’ “Use Your Illusion” albums, “Badmotorfinger” by Soundgarden, and “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” by Red Hot Chili Peppers - to say they were groundbreaking would be an understatement... it was a different time, and yes, it was a better time in just about every way and I’m glad you’re discovering it

Nirvana MTV Unplugged is amazing. You get a real sense for the emotion behind Kurt's vocals. BTW that feeling is called Grunge. Kurt has an interesting childhood. Spray painting things like "God is Gay" or "Vandalism is a beautiful as a rock in a cops face". Kurt also stopped a group of kids from beating on a gay kid in high school by walking up and kissing him on the lips in the locker room. He swam against the flow and was an absolute individual. For someone who died so young he left so much behind. RIP Kurt !

Your comments towards the end got to me man. I'm at least twice your age and it was common practice to listen to an album from start to finish. I kinda understand and it makes me mad that you are growing up in an age that revolves around the single. I'm glad you are actually checking out older stuff. Even the older hip hop as well. I can't listen to current hip hop but I can listen to the older stuff. It makes me wonder if I'm turning into the old man that thinks music sucks past a certain time, but then I also love 1960's-70's acid rock, Classic Rock, Motown artists, classic R&B and even "CLASSIC" country, not new country. New country just sounds like a Ford commercial along with a beer sponsorship. It doesn't have depth anymore.

I feel you on the country, big time lol. I'm a late millennial and I only started listening to albums start to finish recently. I think it's cuz of the format that music comes in now. I'm a sucker for good lyrics personally. My favorite lyricist artists rn are Mitski and Hozier
Another banger of an album that's great from first track to last is Foo Fighters "The Colour And The Shape." And the drummer from Nirvana is the lead singer of the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl.

I really liked the realization at 25minutes - I cant imagine listening to an album with only 3 good songs. I think you have captured the essence of a lot of mainstream music at this point in time. So many people using streaming services and dont need to buy an album so artists can get away with a couple good songs that will get tossed on a playlist and listeners may never notice. But when its a physical item you have to buy and carry around - only three good songs wont cut it, they could get away with 3 bad songs at most.

I was 20 when this came out. I was into punk rock, thrash metal and all sort of underground indie rock. I nor anyone else ever thought Nirvana would be the break-out band. For anyone who wants to dive-in to the Seattle music scene, start with U-Men. They influenced a lot of others in the early 80s who ran with it a few years later. The Melvins are another although they never lived in Seattle and in fact re-located to California from southwest Washington. The Fastbacks are another great band who started putting-out records in the early 80s all the way through the 90s. But the U-Men are worth a listen.

Jojo! How about checking out Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dreams or the other album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness? I'm a fan of both, but Siamese Dream is what made me start listening to them, but Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness has more award winning songs.
Your reaction on the fourth track was very interesting. Makes me wonder how many rap fans feel like you that 3 good songs make a good album. Very revealing. An album really needs to win me over for me to consider it good, and by this I mean I have to love the majority of the songs, if not all. And there are tons of albums that meet this criteria, including Nirvana's "Nevermind". But also Foreigner's "4", most of Toto's albums, and too many prog and metal albums to list here. Okay, I'll mention two: Savatage's "Handful of Rain" and Shadow Gallery's "Tyranny". Give them a listen if you ever have a chance. Oh! A third one: Blue Oyster Cult's "Imaginos". I'll stop here or I'll be at it all night LOL.

So glad you got to check out nirvana. Hands down my favorite band in high school
You know JoJo, your 3 song comment hit me kind of hard. Back in the day, with limited funds, I needed to hear at least 3 songs via MTV or radio just to consider spending my money on it. I would always be ecstatic when I had more songs/deep cuts that I could get into and like it/the band more... to the point that I'd be like I wish they'd release a video/single for this track... That said, to your further along point about every song being good but when you run across good front to back albums they are very rare by any artist in any genre. There are a few I hold in complete album status that are good/great... or a term from back in the day--"all killer, no filler." I think today's digital music distribution method gets folks out of complete albums because they can stay to hits so easily without listening to the rest of it.
Thanks for the reaction to this albumn.
I remember when Nirvana started to blow up worldwide in 1992 (it was released in 1991), this album 'Nevermind' didn't sound like any other record out there... a mix of punk rock, Beatles melodies & harmonies, and 70's heavy rock. Even Weird Al Yankovic had a hit w/ his parody 'Smells like Nirvana' in '92. The impact of this record was so huge that by 1993, Seattle 'grunge' rock had taken over radio and MTV... bands like Kiss, Poison, Ratt, Bang Tango, Whitesnake... were suddenly replaced by bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots... and Nirvana's singles were all over radio... Nirvana was on all the magazine covers. And yet, the band itself was very much weary of fame & adulation. Sadly, Nirvana's reign was short... lead singer/ guitarist Kurt Cobain would take his own life in April 1994. They released their 'MTV Unplugged' album set that year, and the music industry churned out Nirvana clone bands for the next 2 years.
this album came out when i was -13, miss the good old times
What you said about how we consider albums good if they have 3 songs resonated with me. It's true, albums like this set a standard that's super hard to reach because it has 0 skips. YES!
This whole CD just rocks out loud!
You should try listening to the OK Computer album by Radiohead, another brilliant 90s album.
I was 16 back than and i looked a bit like Kurt Kobain. Girls liked it my friends hated me for that. Good time. Listening to this now always gives me a strange feeling...
This was so much fun to listen to, I haven't heard these songs in forever! If you're listening to full albums, please give Sublime's self titled album a listen. The entire thing is amazing!
your voice mixing with kurt’s at 20:34 was beautiful af for no reason 😭😭
