Galaxy Explorer was a joy to build. A sticker free experience. I loved those clever connections inside the wings. The blue and grey classic lego space style was during my time as a child so I was naturally drawn to the explorer and not the blacktron. Seeing your video I feel good about holding off on some of my big purchases till later in the year.

@@Brickrattyop Totally think the blacktron ship will return; they were still quasi-selling them when the period ended, so they clearly still have some more (Plus this is exactly what they did with the forestman's hideout). Hopefully, when it re-releases, there will actually be something worth buying

They made the galaxy explorer so cheap they had to charge 190 bucks for the black tron ship

The use of stickers instead of prints may not have been an issue if this was a retail set instead of a GWP. My understanding is that the budget for custom prints in GWPs is pretty limited (two prints for the Bionicle BWP), so the designer probably concluded that the custom printed Blacktron minifigure torso was the priority, which is fair given the constraints. Though, if this was instead released as just a retail set, perhaps they may have been able to sell it at a slightly higher price point and include all prints (in addition to the fact that doing so would probably just be more to the benefit of customers anyway). I think if I'm gonna get one of these tribute-to-classic-space sets, I may prefer to pick up the Galaxy Explorer.

A lot of good points. The Galaxy explorer is a lot more versatile and I would recommend it for sure. Both sets are decent for a classic space collection and it's fun how they have Easter eggs for each other

sadly i dont think gift with purchase sets are allowed to use new prints. I dont know how the bionicle set got two.

Honestly I just wish the panels were printed, I'm fine with stickers in most cases so parts can be used anywhere. After seeing this set I was very surprised the Bionicle masks were printed

I bought 3 of this set sealed on Bricklink for $35ish each. They look great on my shelf, I might make a little landing base sort of diorama for them to have their own area in my collection with other classic space stuff. I hate the stickers, but when all is said and done it looks great.

I need to figure out an alternative build for my 2nd copy too. It's a fun army builder at the right price, the figure is amazing. I'm hoping to build a space diorama as well!

I believe the exact opposite opinion: The previous Space set was more nostalgia and less play pattern for me. The idea of having future space sets be modular like the Blacktron makes me so excited, while the previous set has very little interactivity with future sets. This set alone made me want for more more more, and I'm getting a lot more just to satisfy this itch, getting the same set again just to create variant ships, buying instructions for custom Blacktron vehicles with this style, etc.

It is really nice that both sets provide a wide variety of parts to build mocs and do your own thing. The new Blacktron minifigure is amazing too, so it's nice for army building. I do think the Galaxy explorer set could've been better if it had the parts to build it in the original scale as well. It would end up being a simpler build with a ton of extra pieces, but would be a fun concept

This was the most harrowing sticker applications ever. Hated that! I'm happy to have it just because of what it is but it could have been better. Good video!

I'm also just glad to be getting some classic space sets. Maybe a sticker the size of the whole part would've been better

the cockpit window is very similar to those seens tons in space subthemes like space police 1/2 and unitron

@@Brickrattyop Agreed. They could have used the x wing canopy as it was used in the Lego Batman movie automobile in the exact same color. I'm just not a fan of these overly long and narrow windscreen. It's why I've been hesitant on buying any sets including it.

It was definitely good that they made enough to meet the demand so the price on the after market didn't get too high

Putting the two stickers on parallel would have been easier if you'd clipped the flags to a temporary support so they didn't move and you didn't need to concentrate on holding them together.

@@Brickrattyop It's what I do if trying, and often failing, to apply them correctly. It works for lateral positioning but they often still end up skewed.

This set was kind of a letdown. LEGO could have been a good sport about it by giving the set actual printed pieces instead of stickers (I was at war with my OCD over getting them to align perfectly, or close enough to it). The other issue being that you are given dozens of transparent red 1×2 tiles for the back wings when they could have just made them transparent red like on the original ship build. I understand why they did it, just wish they hadn't.

I can understand the wings since a new mold color could be pricier. The stickers would've made it a way better build though

To be honest I understand why Lego used stickers. They do t want to spend the extra time and money on prints when it is a gwp. Although the stickers were annoying, I understand their decision. Overall I thought this was a pretty decent set. Great video!

Thank you for the comment! I've seen the point that having unprinted parts means you can use them in other builds easier. You can also put stickers on other parts too, which can lead to creative uses for them. It is definitely one of those topics that will have people on both sides, but for Lego it's just about saving money like you said. For the most part I don't mind stickers when applying them is easier

I liked it personally but yeah the stickers were bullshit. Also I felt like they could have given us another figure.

Yeah to Blacktron figures would've been great, I ended up buying more parts for them from Pick a brick. I think the set looks a lot better when you put it in a space display with the galaxy explorer

I wish they would have just released this as a set that could be purchased, I probably would have bought four of them but now I have to buy them on eBay for $40 to $50 dollars. And I’m probably one of the few that is glad they offered this set with stickers because it will give an all new dimension to Mocs with being able to add official LEGO stickers to Mocs since there are only two printed pieces in the original Blacktron line. Incidentally, I accidentally got two sticker sheets with mine. 😁

That's nice that you got two sticker sheets! I got a 2nd one and I'm thinking of building a troop transport MOC with as many of the parts in it. I'm hoping to keep the modular design of the original to keep them consistent

I'm totally with you on the stickers. The Blacktron logos are monochrome. Couldn't have been too hard to turn those into prints, but I think they probably had part versatility in mind when they opted for stickers. That way you have the choice of having the Blacktron logo on it or not. The set itself though is an awesome GWP, even with the stickers. If this set is worth $30 to $40 dollars to you, getting it free with a $190 purchase is nothing to complain about. That's about 20% more LEGO for the same price. I have much more of a problem with the $250 threshold for the Houses of the World GWP. That set isn't worth $50 imho. That's more like a $25 to $30 set and should have had a threshold of $120 to $150.

I agree that this set is an awesome bonus if you're going to buying sets anyway. It really could be my favorite gwp in a while. Looking at the sticker use, I also think of the inconsistency with the older sets. Stickers end up shiny which is going to stick out when next to the older sets too.

nvm you got them right. its the designer who got them wrong. like ive already said they're supposed to be upside down triforces but for some reason the designer made a couple of them right side up.
