Also, now that you've been introduced to Fishing, I will tell you there's a ship docked occasionally in Limsa that is devoted to fishing. It will be a real Endeavor.

I love that you're so intently taking note of all these little details, theorizing and enjoying it so early on, most people just don't care much for early ARR because it's "boring" but I guarantee that the eventual payoff will feel AMAZING if you're so invested this early, barely any details are really left hanging in this story and that's one of the things that make it so fucking cool for me having the videos documenting your experience is sick too because 3 expansions down the line you might feel like revisiting them and be like "HOLY HELL" at all the things you'll suddenly see that were always there, can't put into words how excited I am to follow you in your journey

And one more thing; Crafting gets super complex as you eventually have to carefully juggle your Production, Quality, and your CP in order to create the items as best as you possibly can.

Loving the type of video of your journey and impressions. We all know ARR can be rough at the edges, but there is also good world building. Anyway hope you having fun!

8:27 idk if people have let you know Jay, but there are simplified job gauges (such as the little bard notes mentioned here) that are much smaller and well, simple

If you're looking up melee jobs, don't forget that you can also unlock Rogue/Ninja in limsa lominsa. It's a pretty fast-paced melee job, and I felt the need to mention it because it isn't on the list of jobs you see in character creation, so you might miss it.

Also cooking has a pretty fun storyline later on, so while the crafting itself is less involved and a bit more stats based and dull comparatively, it has some fun narrative stuff and ties into a whole series of awesome side quests in stormblood way down the road.

Nice to see another of your videos. If you do decide to level a melee class, I hope you have fun with it! It’s good that you can play them all without having to make a new character. And Peatie is so adorable!

The lancer (and more specifically the job it turns into, dragoon) is really good to play through the next expansion, Heavensward

ARR can be very old school MMO sometimes, don't worry, things shift dramatically in the Patch content and even more so with Heavensward.

Love the content ❤ keep it up :) I will also say that where you're currently at is basically in the little kiddy wading pool. I think the current game's biggest flaw is that it introduces you to everything a little bit too slowly, rest assured that everything you're seeing now has immensely more depth as you get into later expansions. Not just the game systems and jobs but ESPECIALLY the lore

keep on digging. Bard does have the best glams in the game if that's something to entice you over. It is a good idea to start leveling another job early, but it's going to be more work to keep them synched, just keep that in mind.

Been leveling bard for about a month. Lv85 now. And I started out hating it at first until around level 50-60 to where I unlocked more abilities and got used to the flow of it and now I find it really fun

Just to help you out with the nomenclature, in Final Fantasy "Jobs" refer to your combat role. For example Bard is your current "Job", which is the advancement of the class Archer. Jobs don't mean the gatherer/crafter classes although I can absolutely see why you would think that

Glad to see you're continuing to enjoy the narrative! Being able to pull out the enjoyable bits from the repetition will definitely help in the long run. Also, while swapping to a new job means grinding them up from level 1, if you're not enjoying bard you should absolutely swap. I think dragoon would work great, but squishy but is really fun and probably has the most decent story out of ARR. Im sure people would love to help you level up 😂

Jay, I will warn you right now...The Uber endgame for A Realm Reborn (Which I'll only use the acronym UCoB) has not been scaled AT ALL since its release. It's still some of the hardest content of FF14. Just come back later and run it unsynched.

@@Advarious not really. It's pretty easy compared to the other expansions raids. Especially now because of the power creep that has affected jobs, making them more powerful than they were back then. I completed all of it back when the raids were current. That being said, I agree that it would be too hard for him to just jump into synced. Especially since he isn't very familiar with mmos. I imagine he would want to do it without guides. And...well...yeah, for an inexperienced player that would just be a disaster. From my perspective those fights might be easy, but from a new player perspective that is definitely not the case. It would definitely be interesting to see him at least try it though.

I love your vids! I agree with you about the Bard! Bard shouldn't be attached to Archer but a Musician class which would be a support class! Archer should become Hunter in my opinion!

Archer quests ge real fun after level 50 where it all devolves into a toxic yaoi plotline

The thing about jobs/classes in XIV is that most don't feel too great to play until 50 and a few don't truly feel right until as late as 80 (mostly Reaper for this one which at least unlocks at 70) It's the biggest issue the game has with the leveling process and it becomes worse feeling when you start hitting those X0 thresholds and then have to go backwards.

Again, you want to make a self insert protagonist, so do the things you think will be cool, and don’t worry about appealing to the live masses by subverting your own comforts for character building. Playing any game in a way in which you don’t enjoy playing games is a recipe for not enjoying yourself.

Lancer and dragoon is also a great out if you get sick of bard. From what I know bard does become enjoyable to play at a much higher level, but is quite possibly the most boring starter to play.

“There’s not much to say about these class questlines” So I think that by trying to subvert your own nature for the sake of streamability you did yourself a disservice in your experience of the early game. Many of the class questlines are quite good. Dark knight for example is largely considered one of the most interesting side stories. Archer and bard from what I understand (it’s the only class I haven’t touched in playing through all of ffxiv) is quite possibly the worst one. The trick I find to this game is making yourself in this world. Make your ideal final fantasy protagonist, inspired by the final fantasies that you hold dearest.

I’m betting if you had started as a gladiator you might have liked it more, and uldah probably would’ve been a more exciting introduction to the world.
