A SPARROWHAWK Hunting in my Kitchen! 👀
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
I was totally Amazed and could hardly believe my eyes 👀 when I walked into my kitchen and noticed a Stunning Male Sparrowhawk perched on one of my vintage Whiskey Jugs, on top of a kitchen unit.
With us having a Wildlife Rescue here at home (Pixies Wildlife Rescue) we often have baby Birds in the kitchen, especially those that need the incubator, or feeding more regularly than others.
On this day we'd just had 2 baby Pigeons brought in, inside a box. The box was on the breakfast bar, opposite the outside door. We also have a house Guinea Pig and a Budgie in the kitchen.
It was a hot and humid day so the back door was open to let some air in. I was no more than 10 minutes gone from the kitchen and the Hawk must have come in during that time.
Who knows how long he'd been perched somewhere in the garden, listening to the various calls coming from the garden and also the kitchen!
At one point, the Hawk sat on top of the Budgie cage too!
Thankfully, nothing was vulnerable and eventually the Sparrowhawk flew out of the door, totally unharmed, so a great outcome for all!

WOW. What a shock to find a Sparrowhawk inside. He really liked that jug and seemed pretty comfortable flying around your kitchen. The poor Budgie must have been terrified. Glad it all worked out well in the end for everyone. Great film of the encounter! Best regards

Hello my friend, indeed it truly was a shock and once I realised nothing had been harmed, it soon turned into a really pleasant and cool surprise for me, as the Sparrowhawk is one of my fave' birds. I do wonder what the Budgie made of the situation as he'd never seen such a bird before, but we have a bird rescue here and we often put the Budgie cage outside among the aviaries and various bird species we have in. So I hope he wasn't so worried. The main thing, as you say, is that all the birds were ok and it was a bonus to capture it on film.... who would have believed it otherwise? Thank you for watching and for the lovely comment. 👍◕‿◕
Beautiful bird. Congratulations.

Hi Anita, I truly did enjoy watching him between filming what he was up to. I loved it, to be honest. They are one of my fave birds, so that was a bonus... although to start with I had to swiftly check my 'patients and pets' were secure, lol. Thankfully, I haven't done any 'top of cupboards cleaning' for a while and maybe it's just kitchen grime that helped keep the pots stuck down, lol. thank you for your lovely comment, my dear friend. 👍◕‿◕
These sparrowhawks are real bird lovers and it doesn't matter whether the bird is in your kitchen or in the wild, you managed to take wonderful pictures, after all your sparrowhawk is also a real royalist, greetings from good old Germany, Bernie

Hello again Bernie, well yes, I have filmed wonderful scenes and made lovely videos of Sparrowhawks in the wild, and now one a bit closer to home... as they say, lol. He is a Royalist, lol, well spotted and thank you as always for watching, my friend. 👍◕‿◕
Wow !! One very strange encounter, a Sparrow-hawk with a lot of nerve 🏡🦅 👀 !! I’m glad he didn’t get at any of your patients or residents 😊👍 ! Pretty cool footage ✅ ! Cheers, Don

Hi Don, indeed it was a strange bird to meet in my kitchen and obviously I would never expect this in a mmillion years, lol. Thankfully it did work out a wonderful encounter and I loved watching him briefly but could only reflect on it this way once he was safely out of the door and a quick check and nothing was traumatised or knew any different. Thank you as always my good friend. 👍◕‿◕

Well that’s definitely a first. I’ll see them on my garden fence sometimes or calling in the distance but they rarely stay for more than a few seconds

Hi Theo, what is surprising is that we have never had a Sparrowhawk even in the garden... well actually, we possibly have but not seen it. It was fabulous to be able to be so close and watch it for ten minutes or so before he flew to safety and back to what is 'his normal' life. 👍◕‿◕

You are right there my friend, it does seem absolutely crazy to think a Sparrowhawk would be sat there in my kitchen! We had only ever seen one in over 30 years here and that was up in the clouds, lol. Your Jackdaws in the lounge is also a strange one... did they come down a chimney? And the bats are pretty cool too! Thank you for your interesting comments my good friend. 👍◕‿◕

@@WildlifeBirdsUK yes the Jackdaws fledged down our chimney 😃. And we have bats in our loft who frequently take a wrong turn on re entry. We changed the channel name Jane - it’s Dave and Sue ex North Bedfordshire Nature. We’ve confused everyone 🤦🏻♂️

Such a surprise! Good thing he didn't break anything. He must have decided to hunt your budgerigar. Imagine how scared the parrot is. I see you've already finished the renovation. Now you will upload videos more often. For some reason I didn't get a notification about this video. Have a good day!

Hello my friend, yes it was a great surprise and a really nice encounter, once I figured everything was safe... including the Jugs, lol. Acrtually the renovation has come to a painful halt with lots of work done, but the damp still being a huge problem. Hopefully it will be figured out and put right soon, so the renovation can continue. It will be at least another year yet, sadly. That aside, thank you as always for watching and leavinfg a lovely comment. 👍◕‿◕

@WildlifeBirdsUK
11 ай бұрын
Hi Sylvia, for most Budgies in this unusual scenario I agree, it would probably be terrifying. However, we have a bird rescue here and we often put the Budgie cage outside among the aviaries and various bird species we have in. He often sees unusual species and much bigger birds than he is. So I hope he wasn't so worried. Thank you for your comment. 👍◕‿◕

Beautiful! Do you think he was one of your rescued birds? We grow nearly all our vegetables and our wild birds and animals love everything we grow. Problem is they don't think much about sharing so the only way we can live with them and have our vegetable was to build a huge aviary type enclosure with the garden inside the cage. Little birds can get inside through the mesh to eat the bugs but everybody else is kept out. Unfortunately every now and again a parrot gets in and can't get out. There are three large mesh doors, the biggest is 2 metre X 2 metre but the cage is 3 metres high. We open all the doors to let them out, but the birds always fly around banging against the ceiling and it takes them a while to find the opening. Your hawk had the same trouble finding the door. Birds are just not used to looking down for an escape route. I wonder what would have happened if you had a steak defrosting on the bench😁 I know exactly what would happen if it would have been a raven😋👍

Hello my good friend, no he wasn't one of our old 'patients' and I know this as we have never had a Sparrowhawk in the rescue. That's an amazing idea to grow your veg inside a huge aviary! Such a shame about Parrots being trapped inside the aviary and sometimes hurting themselves in the panic to get out! That's typical bird behaviour tho'. I like the way you explained how the Hawk had similar trouble, despite the back door being wide open... I'm just so thankful he turned and flew back up to the Jugs without crashing into anything, obviously an older and more experienced bird than many. Any defrosting meat would, I'm sure have been the Sparrowhawks 'takeaway' lol. Thank you as always for your continued support and extra thanks for your interesting and pretty cool story too. Have a wonderful weekend! 👍◕‿◕
