A Soul's Journey After Suicide with Joseph Gallenberger

Joseph Gallenberger, PhD, is a clinical psychologist. He is author of Inner Vegas: Creating Abundance, Miracles, and Health and Liquid Luck: The Good Fortune Handbook. His most recent book is Heaven is for Healing: A Soul's Journey After Suicide. He is a senior trainer with the Monroe Institute near Charlottesville, Virginia.
Here he describes insights he gained, concerning the afterlife, during the past quarter-century since his brother's suicide. These insights were derived from his work with the Monroe Institute Gateway program, from his explorations involving the channeler Pam Hogan, and from a variety of experiences he interprets as direct contact. He maintains that opportunities for personal and spiritual growth exist for all in the afterlife.
New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. He teaches parapsychology for ministers in training with the Centers for Spiritual Living through the Holmes Institute.
(Recorded on February 28, 2017)

Rebirth is driven by craving and is an unconscious process. If you want to bring the round of rebirth to a close then you must follow the noble eightfold path to it's culmination (i.e enlightenment). Merely 'wanting' to not be reborn won't achieve anything, as this 'wanting' is just another form of craving.

_"They tell us that suicide is the greatest piece of cowardice; that only a madman could be guilty of it; and other insipidities of the same kind; or else they make the nonsensical remark that suicide is wrong; when it is quite obvious that there is nothing in the world to which every man has a more unassailable title than to his own life and person."_ ~ A. i had a near death experience a few months after an SA in 2017 which caused a traumatic brain injury. it Iasted several minutes. I can confirm basically all of this and the type of roaming souls do. it is real. I could have chose to die if i wanted to and fly into the light. I took from my exp that purgatory and Earth look the same. I could see below the bus i had the seizure on parked along with the ambulance trying to assist me. I saw my own body and a helicopter view of my neighborhood, full of bustling cars and full buildings. My eye was not just visual but ESP. I could see into homes and how they were arranged, where the closets were in houses ive never been in. Simultaneously when i woke up it felt like my whole mind got sucked into a spiraling vaccuum, all the light turned off and I opened my eyes and flew up inside the ambulance. Idk thought maybe someone would find this interesting. It is something unique

I want to thank you too. Over 40 years ago an elderly lady shared a NDE with me, she talked about being able to see through walls. She was telling me how peaceful she felt, she said the only word in the human language she could think of was tranquility. She said even then that wasn’t enough, saying there isn’t anyway she could describe what she was feeling. I’m so glad I had my encounter with her, I believed her then, as I believe this today.

This I found warm and comforting after my son suicide in April 2019. The pain and grief and concern, is he ok where has he gone, all the usual thinking. I never thought much about re-incarnation until recently now I need to hear more about life after death. I can feel my son presence around me and I talk to him daily, sending love to him and forgiveness. I now know he will be fine, it’s just working on myself to open my mind and ask for guidance and peace in my heart.

My aunt Debbie killed herself 11 months before my birth. She reincarnated into me. I'm picking up the pieces and using it to better my soul and clear the soul fragments from my life before. Suicide isn't an easy way out like it sounds, your soul follows and you have to live out what was going on. Thanks to the knowledge today, I'm able to take on the mission and take care of my suicide back in 93. I am a mental health activist, suicide prevention activist as well as a healer. So it all worked out and is a blessing.

I traveled nationally as a Sales VP for a major Lab, calling on Fortune 500 Corporations and had several Corp Clients in Las Vegas. Due to symptoms caused by radiation treatment for a Thyroid Disease I had to stop working and has to return to TN/my not home of choice. Better now, but its been 10 yrs and my closer friends there have either transitioned or moved. (We never can go back and expect what was.) My x/husband is there (local celebrity) and he is fine though we rarely talk. Anyway, I will always cherish the time I spent in So Nevada and maybe I will spent time in the Desert again. The black void my friend said he felt he was there for 35 years..if he could quantify it (but time wasnt the same) before they pulled him out and sent him back- because according to friends said his wife was praying wildly to bring him back. Thats putting it lightly. And he said the orbs floating with him in the void all of sudden starting thinking to themselves and deliberating upon him to send him back- he knew what they were thinking cuz it was a collective consciousness over there. He thought out loud- NO I wanna stay. He said God (he was agnostic) appeared w the Trinity and said he was going back. He said he had 360 degree vision there, no pain, no judgement. Knew everything there was to know while he was there. So much love you couldnt believe it. Felt like in you heart while peeps sing happy birthday to you. Take the feeling you have while they sing it TO YOU, all weird like and multiply that feeling times a thousand, STILL not enough. He misses it so much it took him 5 years to feel like he belongs here. Said the other side IS reality. This here on earth, what youre living,is like a dream. from the perspective of the other side. He was dead in the cath lab for 42 minutes Dead and Gray. Other engineers saw him gray as gray can be. revived by the very docs whose x ray equipment he repaired. It is a true miracle, per the docs who joke about it in his presence all the time in the cath lab. He died from factor 5 clotting. Caused by vegetables. LOL he can no longer eat veggies. TRUE STORY.

Dr. Gallenberger mentioned a woman who took her life in the end stages of cancer so as not to have to go through the inevitable pain and suffering. I feel this is not suicide, but the enabling a situation to run its natural course in a more humane way. Our lives are longer due to medical intervention, choosing when to end our lives when we receive a terminal diagnosis is part of that process. I wonder how many agree if this should not be deemed suicide, but choice of medical care.

Thank you Jeffrey and your guest for this, I found it very informative and reassuring. When David mentioned about his parents "reliving" the years with their son when he was 18-22 years old in a similar, but different dimension to this one, it reminded me of a message I got from a trusted source in early 2021who didn't know my family situation. I was told that my mum and dad were together and near me ( this was 9 months after my mum had passed and 17 years after my dad had). My parents had separated in 1971. It makes me now consider if they were replaying those years to see what would have happened had they stayed together, and I find that comforting as it is healing for themselves. So thank you 🙏

Thank you for sharing this video. I really am intrigued by Joseph Gallenberger's insight. I find it very comforting to hear from a clinical psychologist who has also lost a brother to suicide. I have never believed that those who die by suicide go to Hell or are punished. Most who die by suicide are not in their right minds when they kill themselves and have struggled with mental illness. As a nurse I see mental illness-just that an illness. I don't see it differently than someone dying from another chronic illness. I believe many religions are a social construct, and many of the teachings are to act as a deterrent for things such as suicide. In history we didn't know as much about mental illness and suicide. Believe me suicide is not the answer. The amount of pain it causes others is unreal, and I do believe that a soul must undergo an immense amount of healing having gone through so much mental/emotional pain during life.

Some wake up and accomplish great things, the rest of us look around going wtf is this place??? 🧐🤨😒 To pass the test, Try to get thru without making any new karma, and no thoughts on the past - & FORGIVE EVERYONE - try to love ❤️ others - and dont look back - when u make your “escape.” Practice OOBE til u have the various energy bodies down. But if you ever get to that point, it's not too late to reach out- there are caring, trained people that can help you see another way in that moment. You are wise to remember your guides/angels. I like to tell mine or God I'm open to them and want to feel their love and guidance- give me signs. I pray to yours that they hold you in their arms and give you comfort and a break from your pain.

If we are not to reconnect with our loved ones in the afterlife then what was the point of incarnation in this dimension? We are only here for a short time, we can't build upon what we've learned, or haven't learned, in our past no matter how many times we come back so what purpose does a forced "annesia" serve? Why is there no free will for a large percentage of people, of which you must have in order to progress? If this is a play and we are all actors then what is this "karma" we are supposed to work out? Too many theories that lead to endless questions and no answers. Whoever is in control of this sh*t needs to be reassigned elsewhere, I am not a happy customer!

The man said when talking to his brother that you have a choice of wether or not to reincarnate. Maybe others who need to learn something are forced to go back till they learn. You have to realize you are learning about this through the perspective of a mans brother who committed suicide and it seemed he wasn’t through all the stages. We don’t know what was left out, or what will be different for Us if we go there. This also could be the projection of this mans subconscious in a dream like state, but from what I listen to on this channel I doubt that.

Very soothing very comforting explanations. Many thanks for the valuable interview. It sounded to me as if there are many similarities with the Chico Xavier's life movie. I love that film too. If this Universe is made of love then there must be really a lot of help on the other side. When I read and hear such positive explanations, I realize once again how poor and limited those religious interpretations about after life. Love cannot be limited/reduced to any dogma, diety or philosophy. Because love embraces everything and has no room for any judgement. Thanks again.

The whole judgement, reward, and punishment is pretty typical of Orion where basically there was little to no middle ground on such matters to great detriment of the souls that lived there and continue the same template in the human experience. The sad part is that it is obviously broken but people fallow out of fear anyway. This world is a pretty horrible place yet so many not only like it the way it is but actually love it which is perplexing given how painful the overall experience is.

Dear Mishlove and Dr Gallenberger, First, thank you Mr Mishlove for your gracious and fascinating interviews. My comment is that the afterlife seems to make life on Earth a bit absurd. Am I going to meet my father as a much younger man than myself when it’s my time? It would be a terrible experience to meet my parents as people younger than myself. This leads me to believe that we must be very, very prudent about chanellers and voices from the grave. Who could ever imagine that someone who caused horrific injuries or death to people would be met on the other side with compassion? It is fascinating to hear stories of reincarnation, but there is something about it that is strange. Because of the fact that what remains unseen cannot be proven true or false, I believe great caution about an afterlife really being a reality must be exercised at all times.

It is interesting how they talk about souls as if they still carry memories of their human life time. I was given the impression through my own research that once you pass over, all physical limitations would be relinquished and thus, consciousness expansion which would illuminate all blind spots we cant see as humans.

I've read thousands of NEWs as well as various afterlife accounts via different sources; a new and often very conscious perspective on one's past - as in most recent as well as other lives - is definitely part of the interim process.

I'm a non-practicing Roman Catholic but I still believe in God and the Holy Family. I'm at a point in my life now at fifty two years of age and I don't really want to continue living any more, I am contemplating suicide. I feel down, tired and afraid. As a child growing up and participating Church services I remember being told that indeed if a person that commits suicide their Soul will be condemned to torment for eternity, is there any proof that this may be the case or is the Church just trying to frighten us ? Or should I believe that maybe God will show me compassion and love ? Thanks to anyone who may wish to reply.

I think you waste nothing finding in your next years the tools that will help you to appreciate this life and an eternal life. There are . Find the awe, find the wonder and start from the most little things. Dont go beaten by exterior things. go as a winner with the things you have inside. There are 534583'7 reasons to love life, dont get trapped in the suicide attitude, that for many people become sliding in an acting role they cant rid off. Regarding the afterlife , i am pretty sure God loves all ..but dont go there like a beaten soul ... All the time you lived here dont deserve it,

The idea of 'after' life is a temporal projection of human thinking - within a focus of existence in the physical experience' that is itself LITERALLY a temporal projection. A focus can be seen as a selection within ALL that is made background - and in a sense contextual. Timelessness and formlessness are not absent to us as the truth beneath appearances - but our structuring of 'beingness' - or definitions of being -operates as an overlay of meanings that objectify and divide, a subjective experience as an unfolding linear temporal sequence. Relaxing or yielding the focus of the attempt to regain a lost wholeness is to a recognition through us of a wholeness never truly lost. It isn't just suicide that has guardians set against its casual engagement - but awakening to the devices by which the consciousness is structured or in a sense programmed by probabilities of choices already in motion or persistence.

This guy's absolute assurance that death is not the end scares the crap outta me. May it not be so. Or at least let us just return to pure, undifferentiated conscious. Ya know, wave become ocean, RIP.

How do these people who claim to 'comunicate with the dead' know for sure that they aren't contacting, and maybe even being deceived by, spiritual beings who because of their very nature have access to all sorts of 'verifiable information'?

Moral of this comment is to show you that we can all come up with hypothetical questions like yours. Learn, unlearn and relearn.

Always be aware of the common fear of anything in the realm of the "unknown". It is a natural tendency, but we should try to train ourselves to not immediately jump to a fear-based response, which is also encouraged by many belief systems. It is very possible that we are projecting the "demons" within our heads onto our experience of reality, thereby misinterpreting what has happened to us.

I have heard of this before. If we live in fear, as you probably do, we take that with us to the other side. But, eventually, we all go to the light.

Ive known someone who was Drunk AND Angry at his mom, went to his truck grab a pistol and told her "Ill see you in Hell", my best friends cousin, who later appeared in his mirror and smiled at him then vanished! Patti from Team G Paranormal had the same experience with her son, he was drunk and pissed at her for not giving him more money so to show her a lesson he shot himself, and she found his body, they talked about that on an EVP! BUT she makes contact with him on the other side through very good EVPs, and he said he was sorry for what he did but hes happy and they continue their relationship today! Look up her videos on YT!

I've had psychedelic experiences where I remember choosing to come live THIS life, and not just one time. I frequently have deja vu and sometimes can even remember what I did in another timeline, including knowing what other people are going to say/do. Wild stuff. Kind of sad to see all the comments here saying people would choose not to reincarnate in this human life.
