Welcome to another adventure where my daughter and i stayed in a little cosy bothy called Duror, what an brilliant little cottage to stay in all by ourselves.

This area is stunning in winter and probably even better in the Summer months - please don't cut down any trees, there is plenty of brash twigs and rotten wood on the forest floor.
A beautiful woodland walk along a forest tracked road then up a path which is fairly easy going.
The bothy comes into sight as you come out the forest into the clearing.
Plenty candles should be brought to give you light as it can be a dark place. This bothy sleep about 4 people comfy and others may have to sleep on the floor area. A large table allows for a few to cook comfortably.
The small water source is not 20 yards from the door please respect it and do not use it as a toilet.

We managed to collect enough brash and twigs in the forest not far away to keep us going all through the night and the morning. Coal was a great source of heat for the fire.
We had a comfortable night sleep , yes it did get colder as the night went on even with the hot water bottles.
Very dark in the morning trying to get sorted so take plenty candles. We had breakfast and got sorted packing things away, cleaning the fire and brushing up is a bothy rule. Leaving the place clean and tidy is a must and builds up heat keeping you warm anyway.
My daughter Charlie took the footage of the stars in film and photographs so you can checkout her page where she can update you on her camera equipment she uses-

The snow made it special and to spend the night in the bothy was just amazing, we did have enough food to stay another night in an emergency so always worth carrying just a little extra food just incase.
If you think the bothy box is a good idea then drop a comment or any thoughts on it would be great to hear.
Thank you for watching the video and hope it has inspired you to get outdoors or try a bothy in the future. A great selection of bothies can be found on the MBA website link below -

Thanks for the comment and yes i totally agree. Many people will be grateful to see such a thing in a Bothy when they are in need of such a simple thing to use or repair something. Steve 👍
I've seen many Bothys in videos and I notice one thing. Each one has its own personality and character. What helpful and very sturdy places for anyone in need of shelter. Great community of all sorts of adventurers. I appreciate your time to create this. Thanks!

A friend an me went through Glen duror. I planted a little spruce on the Isle in the Reservoir. If you ever go this way again, please take a photo of this Gravel-isle so I know, that it is growing well. Many greets from northern Germany! Ingo

Hello and thank you for the comment and all the way from Germany to. Very nice to hear from you, what a nice story you and your friend have made, i shall be sure to let you know the next time i am there. I will look in to that point where the tree is planted and the Isle. A nice thing to do and a great memory to have. Steve 👍
Awesome Video folks
Great idea for a Bothy Box. I notice places that have cabins are places where there is trust and respect for the place, the cabin, surroundings and fellow man. That's special.

@@Campingonthewildsidescotland Yes I noticed her camera at the end of the video.
I was down at Duror Bothy a couple of years ago during a very hot week of walking and loved the place. I was really taken by the location as well as the great throne chair. I found the deepish pool on the stream just grand for cooling the nether regions - it was roasting. I will be back at some point or another.

Hello Willie its a great bothy and a nice casual walk in to it i found, lovely vies and plenty of brash and ground timber to use for the fire. We actually carried a small bag of coal and if i go back it would be well worth taking a bigger bag to keep the fire topped up at night. Its one i do hope to go back to. Steve 👍

Thanks for you kind comment Roger, good to keep it real and enjoy my trips as best as i can. Everyone i do is different and take it as it comes and love it. Thank you for following 👍🏻
some very simple things can save a life... I know THREE people who are alive now because of having the tools to light a fire and a little food left available in a random shelter... it meant they survived long enough to get rescued.

Thanks for the comment, thats nice to know that leaving something behind do benefit others in whatever way they feel. Truly shows that people do appreciate things being left and the outcome of what happens. A nice story that hopefully will keep people leaving useful items behind. Steve 👍

Hi Chris no toilet in this Bothy no, there is a large wood surrounding it so thats your best bet. Steve👍
Glad you enjoyed your stay. The "bothy box" wasn't there when I visited the bothy on 18th February. I'm not sure why you think it is necessary in any case. The bothy is a short distance from the road and emergency provisions aren't needed. As part of safety regulations MOs undertake fire safety instructions on a regular basis. This includes sweeping the chimney and checking the status of fire extinguisher and blanket, the latter two items are seen in video. Thank you for clearing up after leaving. Thanks for the comments Mark, i guess trying to help others regardless of where the bothy is located is a bad idea and as the good will Bothy Box went missing, well either someone has felt they need it more than anyone or MBA have thought it shouldn't be there but its fine. I wont waste my time doing them. It is a lovely Bothy and hope to get back to it again. 👍
Is a bothy a Scottish word for cabin?
@Campingonthewildsidescotland
Жыл бұрын
Hi Marjorie yeas more or less thats what it is. This is the proper term - The term Bothy comes from Gaelic 'bothan' meaning a hut. Historically a bothy is a small shelter or cottage built for labourers. As hill farming declined walkers began to use the deserted buildings and 'Bothying' became the word used for this activity. 👍
