A Smarter & Easier Pasture Irrigation System

Pasture Irrigation Systems can be time consuming and complicated due to the need to size PVC pipe correctly, move hand lines daily to ensure total watering coverage, the many hours of maintenance to fix broken PVC pipe due to cows or other livestock stepping on or bumping the sprinkler heads as well as replacing brass heads that have been stolen. However, this can all be a thing of the past if you install this revolutionary Pasture Irrigation System created by Irritec USA and sold by Drip Depot. (For more information visit us here: www.dripdepot.com/category/54... ) The system works by using a quick coupling valve and a water key that has a brass impact sprinkler attached to it. The key and sprinkler are popped in to the valve and easily removed when it is time to move the sprinkler head. This eliminates having to move hand lines and the chance that an animal will rub on and/or break the PVC pipe because the sprinkler is only in the pasture when it is on. During the winter the sprinkler and key can be brought inside. Thus eliminating theft of the brass sprinkler head.

I have underground 3/4" pipe with Maxi-paws spaced approximately every 25/30 feet, 5 acres with 8 lines running estimated 325 feet each. Every year I have clogged heads that I have to remove and replace or remove and clean out and then reinstall. A big pain and a constant hit and miss pattern. Eventually towards the end of the second cutting of hay ( grass hay, 3 feet high average) I am tired of the maintenance consequently this is the worst crop out of a two crop hay crop. It appears i might be able to incorporate you system (?), maybe not? The Maxi-Paws screw into the lines so they set the length of the case into the ground. Tell me what I can expect IF I use you system? No livestock in this 5 acre field. Thank you, Dale Alumbaugh

This is a neat concept, but the idea of having everything 3/4 inch only works for short runs. Regardless of how many heads you have, you loose pressure based on the size of your pipe. Plumbing 101.

With two heads per 3/4" lateral, friction loss would be fairly minimal unless, as you noted, the line were particularly long. As a quick example, two 3/4" brass impacts putting out about 4.3 GPM each will lose about 5.9 PSI per 100' on 3/4" PVC pipe -- that's a fairly low amount that can be planned around. The sprinklers would indeed need to be moved, but the material costs would be significantly lower due to smaller diameter pipe (big jump going from 3/4" to 1") and only needing two brass impacts instead of many. Definitely a bit of a balancing act, but the friction wouldn't be too terrible with 2 brass impacts except at the end of a longer line.
