Gary, I absolutely love the way you teach, and these visual aids are SPOT ON, they really help with memory recall especially with the colors . I found you on KZread, and it instantly resonated with me so I bought your online course "Soloing for complete beginners" - I'm about 25% through and loving it. Im a Brit in the UK. Thanks a lot :-)

@@PowMusic Hi Gary, just one 'ask'. [This is positive & constructive feedback from a very grateful customer :-) ].... The colors for each Shape are really helpful as they stick in your head and help recall the patterns quickly. However I noticed that the colors of the shapes you used on this video are different to the colors on the other PDF "The 5 Shapes of the Pentatonic Scale" (which is now in my head) so it starts to confuse things a bit. It would be a great benefit to stick to the same colors in every visual aid. This consistency would benefit everyone and avoid unnecessary re-learning (or mental adjustment). Thanks again. you're awesome !

@@tobyhallam4750 on mine they're the same color. Each shape is a certain color. Shape 1 is blue, 2 purple and so on. it confuses my daughter when shape 1 is in different spots for each key.

Why the hell after spending the last two years getting back into playing hours a day and searching non stop for stuff like this have I never once found this until this week ??! This is exactly what intermediate to advanced players need to fill in gaps and assemble all the pieces of the puzzle.

Everytime I see someone use the abbreviation "YT" I immediately think of Dave Menneketti of Y&T, one of the best at using the pentatonic shapes in some awesome solos...😉
There are so many CAGED method courses that spend forever teaching the pentatonic shapes. This gets you nowhere with playing actual music - it just leaves you sounding like you're practicing playing scales. This literally and figuratively connected the dots after months of memorizing shapes and now I can play solos people want to listen to. I feel like it's a key insight to getting to intermediate level guitar and no one is teaching it like this. You are a true master.
Ok, I don't wanna be overly dramatic here, but I've been playing guitar for over 40 years, mostly as a lead player. I know scales out the whazoo but have been trapped in those "scales"(boxes) for years. In fact, even though I'm told I'm pretty good, I BORE MYSELF WITH MY SOLOING !!! However, there is something about the way you have organized the "shapes" (boxes) that has just opened my eyes and ears to traveling the neck without so much thinking and I'm now riff'in all over the place. So thank you VERY much.........and to whomever may think Im getting paid to say this.....no way. Just awesome lessons.

man you're literally the best teacher on KZread … thank you for your efforts :)
I've been KZread scrolling guitar lessons and tutorials for years and I've only just found your stuff. The algorithm is failing you sir. You are speaking my language right here, thank you so much.
Excellent lesson! Wish I could've seen something like this 30 years ago.
This is exactly what I needed to break out of my boxes! Sometimes it's hard to find a reference point to break out of your routine. Thanks for all the great videos. One of the best channels on YT.
The visual is an absolute game changer. Best guitar lessons on KZread right here
I know the "5 positions" of the pentatonic well, but this lesson still helped me greatly. Good stuff man
Love the way you teach. Feels like a real guitar lesson with the track going. It's great to just jam along and really learn these patterns.
I'm a beginner, and still get stuck on scales. But you just taught me something right at the start, with the 2x2 cells. Just like you move a note ... down 2 strings, down 2 frets ... you move the boxes the same way. And the same thing happens when you cross the B string, 2 strings, 3 frets. Eureka ! The boxes move the same way. 😯
Your lessons and visualizations are amazing! Best lessons on pentatonic on KZread!

You exist! How did I not know. Someone that shares the secrets without it costing 49.99. Wow thanks!
I have been working on E and C#- for Mayers Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, so I instantly knew the shapes, great stuff! POW music and graphics are great!
Dude - been playing for 25 years. You’ve done more for my understanding in 30 seconds than all the other videos that try to explain this stuff.
Wow. This lesson unlocked it for me. Thank you for being able to get through my dyslexic head
How brilliant is it to just "get straight into the video" without any chatting or bulls**t. Well done, great job. BTW I'm gonna pretend I already knew all that.
I've been working to come up to speed with your more complex lessons, like the SRV intros, and it's working. I've been aware of these 2x2s but have not seen them graphically until now. Thank you, now back to practicing .....
When I see this I am reminded of the first KZread Teacher Scott Paul Johnson who put up pentatonic lessons in diagrams of all the shapes which could be downloaded, I can’t thanks enough for that, he is absolutely incredible in his teaching, now I see your lessons on the similar lines with some additions of the way I was practicing as well, it makes it easier for me to practice without wasting time on hand drawn diagrams I was trying to create! Thank you all for the support! 🙏🏽😊
Really great way to learn. I’m stoked to have found you and this solid pedagogy.
The sign of a great teacher is making something complex, approachable. Good job. Sometimes I wonder if there's a lack of teaching skills from other guitarists, or just plain greed to keep what they've learned to themselves. I've played guitar for a long time, but this is a game changer in the way to view the fretboard and scales. Thank you!
Best Tutorial for connecting shapes I've ever got 👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Really love your channel, it's really helped me to evolve and reach that next level of playing that I've been striving for within my practice routines and with my improvisation. Please continue to produce and share this content of amazing quality because it is making a difference in peoples playing ability.
