To say Terry Kath was underrated and overlooked is a HUGE understatement! He blew away the 'names' back then. An all time great!

Everyone has their favorite band at some point, and mine was 'Chicago' during the Terry Kath/Peter Cetera era. Terry will always be remembered, especially knowing what could have been, if he didn't leave us so soon.

There were a lot of great guitarists in the 60s and 70s. I personality liked Robbie Kriger and the guitarist for the Carpentars can't remember his name.

Excellent job mixing Terry's highlights. With Uptown it occurs to me: we generally refer to Terry's guitar chops, but listening to this causes me to realize how unique he was as a singer. He brought "soul" to Chicago's music -- that Ray Charles feel to the music. Once he was gone, the soul left Chicago. As for his guitar playing, if he had lived, we'd be admiring him along with (or above) Eric Clapton and Jimi.

Look. Lamm wrote some incredible tunes. Parazaider et al are the horn section God wished he had created. Danny's drumming is classic - from the matched grip to the intricate bass/snare interplay. And Cetera was still playing some incredible bass AND rocking that tenor (before he went hollywood). But it's Terry Kath who makes this band rock - as the descent after his death proves. Incredible band. Incredible music.

I'm late to this party, but his solos inspired me. And sat next to my dad at a live concert, who had tickets to do a review for the Tucson Daily Star in or about 1971-72. Im pretty sure I was about 11 years old. He was conductor of the TSO and the local paper wanted his opinion piece of this PROGRESSIVE rock band that came from the HEARTLAND of AMERICA. thanks to youtube for keeping them alive, and I wonder if anyone has a bootleg of that concert? Saturday in the park became a favorite the immediate summer after that. so glad to be alive to hear it this day. DGM

Great job. Back in the 70' the last thing most people thought about when you mentioned the band Chicago was guitar licks. It was the horns, Pete Cetera's singing, or their vocal harmonies etc. To this day most people have never heard of Terry Kath, but as it turned out he was the one member of the band they could never replace with Cetera probably a close second. I saw them three times, twice with Kath on guitar and once with Donnie Dacus.

Mississippi Delta City Blues was written in 1969 but not recorded until years later. I wonder why? When listening to them in the 60's there just wasent anything on the radio that came close. The Beatles final LP had not not even come out yet. Fast forward to the 70's and play Purples and people would freak out. 'Who the hell is that? Hes going to be huge!' He was huge before you were in high school Dude.

Nice medley. Chicago was my favourite band way back in the 60s and I still think their best (mostly older) music stands up to anything. Every member of the band contributed to their overall sound and all have written at least one good song, even Lee Loughnane (Call On Me), Danny Seraphine and Walt Parazaider. Of course Terry, Bobby Lamm and James Pankow wrote most of their early material. Much has been said about Terry's guitar playing (and rightly so) but few mention how he was a master of the wah-wah pedal and in my opinion he was the best vocalist even better than the fine vocals of Bobby Lamm and Peter Cetera. Absolutely tragic and needless loss of life, I still recall how devastated I was when I found out. Thankfully Terry has left the World with much to cherish and the 1970 Tanglewood video on KZread is a masterpiece that I hope will be around for ever.

Thing was, back then, Hendricks, was very good...no question in his licks and winds, but there came a Terry Kath. ... who did not play solo...he did not care about solo, or solo recognition. He played... for music....intensity..driving beat with his band... he wanted fabulous music.. And he worked at ....and got such amazing stuff for us ,even now ...30 - 40 years later. There is no better recognition than your piors...alll those years ago ...knw who and what was really good! In working with Chicago, he achieved some never to be duplicated guitar solos.... no matter who tries. Some things are final works of art. Though many would like to pretend to be as good as, or better. Agree that some can achieve almost as much as his early solos on the beach ..with his one drummer , one trumbonest, one trumpetist, and his one, very into it, saxaphonist!....supper kudos man! ........one pianist.........and of course Peter Cetera and with fabulous, extraordinary driving bass. Peter was the man!!!!! Can't be duplicated....lucky that we have recordings, though, of course, the pretty boys will work their hardest...for the money. Attempt to chase cash in...chase both Terry and Peter....but they are a very poor substitutes. Same with the Elvis's. I so wish I had the opportunity too shake each man's hand! ...... at the end of one the early concerts....like Tanglewood! Thank you, especially, Terry Kath............extraordinaire!

The number one taboo for gun owners is you DON'T point your gun at anyone. As a teenager in the seventies I couldn't figure out why the guitar solo in 25 or 6 to 4 got no love. Wasn't the Terry Kath Band. Chicago was a "popular" band, unlike Hendrix and Clapton.

You will have to look into the band "Chicago Transit Authority Company"That was the original name of the band until they got the threatened with a law suit from Chicago Transit Authority Company...then they just called themselves "Chicago"..Jimmy Hendrix wanted to work with Terry Kath the minute Jimmy herd Terry play...That would have been cool
