A note from Jakob (the editor) on video gear:
There are a lot of things we use to make videos that I wouldn't recommend people to use for theirs. It's just stuff we had on hand, so it's what we use. That being said, there are things we use that I would recommend, and those are listed below. I'm working on putting together a FULL recommended list of equipment to get your videos looking super sharp. That's coming soon :)

I'm very happy that The Edan Trilogy spoke to you, John, and that you found a cathartic ending in Return to Edan. My deepest thanks to you for giving the trilogy a try -- it means the world to me! Our discussion on Johanna's channel will be on June 29 at 1:00 PM Eastern Time, I believe, though I don't know if it will be a livestream or a recorded conversation. Finally, I look forward to you calling me "Philip," my friend! Oh! And happy Father's Day to you!

Jakob - knowing HOW to read and not doing it, is pretty much the same as not knowing how. I love your energy John, and holy moly can you sell a story. I always intended to read further into Edan, and now I'm very moved to read it sooner. The Boys is a fantastic show and both leads are Kiwi's! Anthony Starr played twins in a local show called Outrageous Fortune, and an incredibly young Karl Urban was in our only local soap opera Shortland Street. I feel like a grandma talking about them, "aw, look at how far they've come". Looking forward to meeting Amy, and I'll be here to join the mockery next week. 😘

Happy Father Day! Ok, wow. I literally got goosebumps listening to your description of the edan trilogy. This past year I have become incredibly introspective and while I wanted to wait for TBB edition, I don’t think I should because I am a bit prejudiced. I try not to be but it is there and I have been really examining the concept of the other in recent times. It sounds like such a special trilogy and I love that for you and anyone who is touched by it. I didn’t read much- I mostly tried to finish Cloud Atlas before my trip, but that didn’t happen so now I will finish it in a week or two and have started A Song for Arbonne. I am extremely excited because what you said makes me very excited. Now that I am done rambling, I hope everyone has a great day and thank you so much to the both of you with the camera help. Also very excited to hear the discussion on the vanished turds.

Happy father's day! This week I've finished Age of Ash and what a beautiful book that was. I really enjoyed the examination of grief and the prose was almost a little lyrical and quite different than the expanse. Also the character work was top notch (the one thing that I found was similiar to the expanse). While Sammish was my favourite character, the way Abraham manged to play ping pong with my emotions about Alys. First I liked her but then she starts to make these terrible decisions and then I start to like her again when I realize that she is blinded by her grief. Abraham also gave me alot of questions about the world and magic which I hope I get some answer to in the sequels. Blade of Dream here I come!

I always tell Jimmy this, but I'll say this to you too, my Booktube uncle. You underestimate yourself. I finished The Power of The Dog by Don Winslow, and it was a pretty damn good book. A dark one, but a very good one. I highly recommend it for those who like The Wire, as it's basically The Wire in Mexico and the border states of the US. I started Gogmagog from Jeff Noon and Steve Beard, which is weird so far but in a good way. I haven't been watching a lot, though I did see Furiosa recently, and it was pretty good. Wasn't to the level of Fury Road, but it was pretty good. I haven't been watching a lot of TV, though like you, I think I'll wait for The Boys to end so I can binge it. House of the Dragon is also coming back tonight, and I don't know if I can resist not watching it. I can confirm, it gives me a tingle when I give you a like my man! Keep up the great work!

Thank you and all of British and American KZread channels Iam subscriber to . Happy father day to you all fathers around world. Actually as I told you before we celebrate mother day as well as England on March . It’s different date you in USA and Canada on May . Mother day celebration is very ancient traced back to 16 th century in England Mothering Sunday . In USA invented by Ann Jarvis in 1908 and became national holiday in era of president Woodrow Wilson. I just found out that father day invented by American Sonora smart Dodd from Washington as way to celebrate her own father who was veteran of civil war in 1910 , widower who had raised six children. Today almighty god we observe father day . We lift to all fathers of this world to you , with adoration and love . Thank you god for showering them with your blessings. We appreciate our fathers as providers , caregivers, mentors, firm foundation on which their children stand . Best wishes for you your dearest ones .

Good to hear you've enjoyed The Edan Trilogy by Philip Chase. They await my attention at some future date. I call the author Dr. C all the time, but he doesn't ask me to call him Philip. Wonder what that's about? Currently enjoying The Demon of Unrest. My remaining summer reading intentions include East of Eden by John Steinbeck (a re-read) and concluding Don Quixote. This fall I finally want to read Hyperion by Dan Simmons and begin the ASOIAF series.

I love me some sentimental mushiness, this was entirely too wholesome 🥺🤩 Also, how much did Philip pay you for that gush? Haha, what a sales pitch, I can't wait to get back to the series asap! Looking forward to the upcoming videos, especially the one with Amy! I finished all my SPFBOX reads that I am judging for Fantasy Book Critic this year, so those reviews will go up soon and I can announce my semifinalist, exciting stuff! Anyway, nice to hear that Dark Matter is hitting so well for you. And lol I totally forgot The Boys was coming out, I will have to get into that again. Just finished S3 of Bridgerton and that wasn't my favourite unfortunately (immaculate vibes, just very lacklustre romance), and now I am going to watch the new House of the Dragon episode. Are you also tuning in for that? Happy reading and watching John ☺

Do you even swear that much? 😂 Nice, LOVE Scott Pilgrim. The comics and film are fantastic. Didn't get much reading done, I just got over a cold. But I'm currently reading: *Historical-Fantasy* All The Seas of The World / Guy Gavriel Kay - Sequel (of sorts) to Children of Earth & Sky, and prequel to A Brightness Long Ago. Very good so far but I can't get enough of this man's writing so I went a head and restarted... The Last Light of the Sun / Guy Gavriel Kay - GGK's take on the Viking invasions of Saxon England under Alfred the Great. *Horror / Thriller* Joe Ledger 1: Patient Zero - So far so good. *Sci-Fi* Vorkosigan Saga 1: Shards of Honor - Halfway through and really enjoying it. Cordelia Naismith is a cool character, and I'm really enjoying the culture clash going on.

Hey John. Found your channel some weeks ago. You have the best intros with your co-host! It’s so funny! You have a very good charisma and wibe! I hope you channel grows fast!! By the way how are you able to read so many books per month? I only have 1 maybe 2 hours per day before my baby and then I only did 1-2 books per month of 300 pages. How do you manage to read 4 books per month with 500-700 pages?

I've met JDM, but I didn't get his number to contact, but I watched the 3 episodes of The Boys, I like the story so far, but I definitely didn't need a certain scene, may have been a bit much for even me. I watched a few movies: Fall (survival horror, I love that sub genre, nothing makes me yell at characters more), the prequel hunger games was eh whatever, and John Wick 4 finally (still traumatized from the 1st movie, 16 minutes into that one and I actually hit pause and walked away because I was so upset). Reading I finished book 5 of the expanse, definitely the best one so far and then the short, which took a bit because it was Cortazar and it was kindof drawn out to me. What I started was book 6, only at the prologue so not far and in preparation for tonight's season 2 premiere, I started Fire and Blood, not far on that one either. I don't know how I'll be dividing up my reading time yet, expanse is still priority, but fire and blood is pretty easy to read for a history book, man if only my textbooks in hs history were that much fun, I would've paid more attention. I haven't read Dark Matter, but it's on my list, I can save it for when you're ready to read it, as long as it's after the 2 big ones I'm currently in, I can push it up. I've had that book sitting in the not finished library for a long time so it is one I need to get through, I have Recursion as well. I don't have a yt channel, but I think everyone else in the world has already read it lol.

@@Talking_Storyglad I wasn't the only one to have missed it, but I did at least start it, there's just a lot of history to go through. I'm hoping that if I read it and then season 2 finishes, George will say he finished winds, just to surprise the fans, that would be a happy surprise after the trauma we're about to endure with this dance. I mean he got us to accept his world after a lot of season 8 bitterness, so maybe he'll pull that trick to hype us up more. I know it's optimistic and that's against westeros rules, but it would be nice to have more of the story before he well dies. That's the present I want. Oh, you have plenty of time for Dark Matter, still have the expanse to do so take your time, maybe November/December. It's not something I want to do until after spooky season as I have like 3 Stephen Kings to read. I'm kindof listening to Misery and I got a few hours in and trying to figure out why it's 14 hours long, 2 hours in and she's already read what happened to Misery, so I know there's the rewrite, but I'm still curious why it feels like it could be wrapped up sooner. I have to restart because I know I'm missing something and I'm listening while working so many interruptions.

@@Talking_StoryI do as well, heck my mind wanders with the book in my hands and I can scan through pages before I'm like, what was that whole thing about lol. I can't do audio with say sci-fi or fantasy, but other genres are alright, romance is the easiest and is basically just background noise and rolling my eyes at characters, but it helps with acclimating to hearing stories, horror is the next easiest for me, I did IT all on audio. I do think horror on audio is the happy medium when books don't actually scare you, I really need a horror rec that's going to actually scare me, I'm the most difficult to scare, even movies, it's difficult to scare me. Don't care what a character is going through, I just look at my life and it's more terrifying than what's happening on screen or on a page. Same with getting me to cry, I must be dead inside. Though, I was traumatized by a lot of animal movies growing up in the 80s/90s, freaking land before time, neverending story...yeah, Hollywood and their traumatizing of children. So that stuff still impacts me on screen, I actually have to look up those spoilers because it's incredibly triggering for me. Should've seen me with game of thrones, and I watch these things alone. But books, I'm pretty dead inside. The character in IT with the fridge, I was like, ummm Pennywise, could you please take care of this, thanks. I'm a bit odd, I remember watching Freddy vs Jason or one of those with my ex and he asked what I thought, I said it wasn't horrifying enough. We weren't together long. I don't think there's a guy out there who could handle my weirdness actually, I go from not enough to I'm out of the room for animal violence, even fake cgi animals, it's terrible.
