A selection of old K's played by bandleader, composer and master jazz drummer Jeff Ballard
Музыка
Recorded on 19 March 2019 in Switzerland
Jeff Ballard was teaching at Jazzcampus Basel that day and was kind enough to drop by my place that evening. Jeff plays a selection of 12 old K's made in Istanbul, and a 20" Roberto Spizzichino
I dedicated this video to the online-forum-community "CYMBALHOLIC.COM", which unfortunately was taken offline shortly afterwards
Mics are 2 Neumann U87 Ai as overhead, no frequency corrections
1960's Gretsch Round Badge Black Diamond Pearl
BD 14"x 18", Toms 8"x12" & 14"x14", Snare 5"x14" 8 lugs
You can also see Swiss drummer Andreas Hoerni and me from time to time

2:22 That’s the point when you don’t think about technique and just get in the zone. Letting the music, rhythm, groove, and feel take over. Brilliant musicianship!
what a treat ...having the chance to listen to these cymbals thanks Jeff for the spotlight on these instruments
It's such an amazing set of instruments. We've all been drooling around and learning from this video for so many years. This has been a reference for me when buying Ks and Spizzichinos for a long time, and I've learnt a lot from this. My heartfelt congratulations and thank you for sharing and making this public Matthias. - Weimin
So cool
Even outside of the cymbals - his sound is so good
Incredible. Every cymbal is a jewel. My favourites are, no suprise, the setup at 7:55 : Elvin on the left and Tony on right 😂 Thank you so much for sharing!
❤ he is so Kind
Just incredible instruments! Wow! And Jeffs playing 😇
amazing sounds played by an amazing player. What else?
Herzlichen Dank für dieses großartige Video. Tolle Beckensammlung.
Lovely video!
What a time on earth right here
Absolutely beautiful cymbals, drums aswell. The best of the best.
Thank you for this amazing video!
This is Great! Thanks.
Each is so individual...
There was a time until the mid 70s when each cymbal was unique in its sound character and it was quite adventurous to look around for a new one. Then came the time of mass instead of class, it was Big business and prizes went up drasticly.

Mass production conquered the world... just because we liked it that way.

Merci Alisha, of course my daughters see it a little differently and now even the grandchildren come and complain, the grandpa should finally give peace and dispose of the comical flat things⛑@@alishatruman

@@mattalpweg per favore!🙏🙏 se tu vendessi uno di questi piatti, dicci dove lo farai!!
only criticism is the way the cymbals are being put onto the stands...
That first 22 was a dog. No bueno. The rest I liked though.

Sure, You hit the nail...but only for this video. This "dog" in particular plays perfectly in small and intimate bar setups - heard by the audience - and projects the typical old K' sound into the listening room, you can also play very quietly with the thing, which in turn makes your fellow musicians happy.😻

@@mattalpweg Cool! I love how a cymbal can completely "change" depending on the room and music it is used for. Cheers my man! 👍👍😊
