This is curious, as a music releaser, I knew that you could distribute on only a few platforms and regions, but I never asked myself why I would do that... I'm quite surprised by this. Oh, just one more thing, monstercat have some regional accounts on twitter, like monstercat japan!

Correct, although the JP release existed before the JP accounts. So at the time, the only news of its release was from puppet directly.

Almost one year ago the original video was posted...

I wonder what the profit incentive for this is. Do region locked songs get more traction in the locked regions, more than they would worldwide if they weren't locked?

There could be incentives. Similarly to people who do platform exclusives, regional exclusives can send traffic to specific platforms and avenues. Alternatively, it could just be for the culture more than profit or stats.
