A ROUGH START to van life: things just keep going wrong lol
WHAT A TIME. I just keep looking back at this week and laughing over how everything just kept going wrong, and I'd think my luck was going to turn at any moment and then WHAM again. Just teaches you to roll with the punches, and try to keep a positive outlook even when everything feels like it's falling apart i guess (:

Social safety tip! If a stranger ever asks where you’re headed don’t say “I’m gonna camp in my car here alone” say I’m headed to a friends house. You may find a good camp spot but you also might find yourself in danger. You’re lucky those people were good people and you weren’t followed or anything. Maybe I’m paranoid but I’d rather be paranoid than in danger and I hope no one else is ever in danger because of a simple friendly seeming question. Sometimes friendly conversation has alterior motives behind it. Please stay safe out there everyone

I get what you’re saying, but she has been doing this for a long time. She seems to know what she’s doing.
If there is anything I have learned by random solo traveling it is that you meet a lot of kind people who help you out and are concerned about you being alone (especially if you are a young woman and they are dad age). It's funny but you get a good sense about people's intentions and they are practically always good if you are the one who asks for help in my experience. I admire your attitude when everything goes wrong, you still try to go with the flow! I wish I was as badass as you, honestly. Also because your mouse is the most adorable creature in the world.

@@hannahleeduggan omg Hannah replied to me (ha)! I am honored. Seriously though, I love your van videos and I like how you show how to have fun and rely on kind people, which I think is hard for some people to understand (and they might see it as nerve wracking) unless they have experienced it themselves and have really developed that sense of people. I went on a solo trip to Egypt which is known for harassment (at women) and I went aware of this, and I ended up having such a good time in large part because of so many really sweet guys who were so worried I'd get harassed and have a terrible time, ha. There were creeps too, but they weren't an issue and I knew who was genuine.

@@ElizabethSollazzo-Daland Okay seriously? I think all of us who watch her channel, and have for a very long time, know exactly that Hannah is very responsible about her surroundings and able to work her way out of situations that are less than desirable. If everyone is so concerned and feels the need to chastised someone for choosing to live life how they deem fit, then shame on you. Hannah knows the risks as do we. I will continue to support her journeys no matter where they lead because at least she has the guts to do the stuff I could only dream of. Hannah has never been one to sugar coat and spoon feed us which is why she shared this in the first place because not everyone realizes how many things can go wrong on the road. This video is such a great example of how kind random strangers can be when you're on the road! I had a similar situation where I was stuck in a sand pit of a forest road. I was buried super deep. It was 9 pm, and there were literally no tow companies for miles. I was at such a horrid angle that there's no way I could've slept comfortably. Then almost right away, the only car that had come down that road the entire time stopped and they helped me get out, taking like 20 minutes out of their day, even pulling me along until the road became less sandy. If it weren't for them, I would've had a horrible night. I am so grateful to people like that, and I am so happy for you that you were also helped when you needed it! Safe travels!
As a girl living in a van with her toddler, all the inconveniences in the beginning stressed me out soooo bad! I couldn’t imagine, the alternator, then the coolant, then the rain! Omg, my heart was thumping at what the universe has done to you! Haha, but that’s a van life reality so thank you for sharing with us ❤️

Man, I am too old for this. Glad it turned out well for you. In my youth I have been in some shady situations traveling and this reminds me why I don't do this anymore. I need a plan, a vehicle in tip-top shape, and I used to beat myself up for needing this, but, in my opinion, I am much much much older and need more security. But, I enjoy watching your videos and ability to make so much money and have homes you love. Amazing really.
Thanks "Aguilar Auto" and the camp guys for helping Hannah. Wishing you safe travels, fun and laughter in your Van life and in Cabin life. 🍀🍀🍀
Hannah, I am a mother of teenage girls and my heart was beating so fast. If your heart is telling you that you are having a bad start to this trip, you may want to listen to your intuition. Too many streams of warning. I am really glad you are safe but you shouldn't tell strangers that you are planning to find somewhere to camp. They may have good intentions or bad ones.. You just never know these days. Be well and be safe! Love your videos!

I'm very happy things turned out okay but I really think you need to have a little more caution with strangers at night. There are a lot of amazing people out there, but you can't KNOW someone's intentions. Many dangerous people seem very kind and helpful at first. Just please be careful and also maybe put a warning to people who are watching and may think because you're taking risks they can. Don't take this as criticism, it's important to bring these things up when it comes to safety. Love the mouse btw

Way more good people than bad. News want to make you think it's the other way around.
These are the kind of videos that I miss to be honest, because it was your ability to take situations and things that most people would find completely discardable and turn them into something fun and meaningful to the point where even random insanity became an adventure worth remembering. There you were living in an old van that you yourself admitted looked "creepy," and which you payed hardly anything for, but somehow you managed to turn it into this adorable place with so much character and fun. Troubles on the road? Ruts? Things falling apart? All in another days adventure, and maybe someone else would end up unhappy and miserable, but you? No way! You were always determined to make it fun - no matter what! And even with your original cottage - when you first got it, you were excited about the most simple things that anyone else would have overlooked or not even wanted - like having an outhouse! I mean, who gets excited about an outhouse? But you did, because you always managed to see things in this positive, interesting, appreciative light, and I loved that. You did not need the "normal" things that others seem to need to be happy. You took the ordinary, or even the discardable, and made it extraordinary, interesting, creative and unique. I am glad that things are working out for you, and that you now have a home that you are happy with that has more of the normal conveniences of life. Just know that it is your ability to find happiness and adventure anywhere, even in situations and places that others never would, that I admire so much!

Very few shops would test the alternator (without specifically being asked) nor would they likely be able to detect a hose leaking coolant without obvious signs of it. I used to drive my family’s maxi van. I know that sinking feeling of spinning in mud. The number of people who are giving her this advice (as though she's not an adult woman who's probably very familiar with the concept of stranger danger, like lol how infantalising) and following it up with something about the true crime content they consume... maybe they need to lay off them for a bit if that's the level of paranoia they have in them. They didn't have any kind of suspicious vibe, they didn't ask her to get out of the van, there weren't any big red flags... also i'd love to know what they were proposing that she do when her van was stuck in the mud and these people pulled over to help out lol. It'd definitely be nerve-wracking to be her in this situation, but like... people have gotta stop acting like this is minecraft where all the creepers spawn at night around you lmaooo

I understand everyone’s mind instantly thinking something bad about those men. And it’s sad that we have to think that way, but I also think what’s important from this video is to trust that not everyone is bad and there are people out there that genuinely want to help you out of situations that can be quite scary. So happy you're safe I love you Hannah!!!!
Great job handling all these tests. That last test-trusting two men in the dark insisting you come with them would have freaked me out, but you were there so I can't really judge it. I preface this with I have never driven a car-only ride my bicycle everywhere (day or midnight and I'm now 57years old} so I am all for women taking their own risks as they see fit.I had a taxi driver that insisted I get into the front seat. Then he got on the freeway heading into the desert when I was only going a couple miles across town the other way. When I asked him where he was going he told me he was taking me out the the desert and looked over at me to see my reaction. He laughed and turned into a luxury casino exit. He drove through the valet entrance.. he thought he was so clever. Meanwhile I was thinking of jumping out of the car (this is just before cellphones were popular). He then got me to my destination. Only reason taking a taxi was that I was sick with a cold and I needed to show up at the place to turn in my passport photo (that I just got taken) and I was tired and needed to get to the First time passport, so straight from the photo place, I took a taxi cause I was sick..... I was too naive back then-after all he was joking, right? I should of reported him, but it made me aware of how fast a situation change when the power is in a strangers hands. There is no one answer, though. I am just glad you are safe and I had some helpful angels.
The universe and you sure do have fun together! 💗💗

I’ve been in a very similar situation before! I was broken down on the side of some county road in Maryland and had no service. Two guys stopped to help, and happened to work at the auto parts store that wasn’t too far down the road I guess. All I had was a 50 in my wallet so I gave it to them and they went and bought me parts, returned my change and even put the parts on on my car. It ended up breaking down again but I’ll always remember the kind act.
Years ago i used to buy cars worth about 2K unfortunately they broke down at the worst places and times..my alternator went on the freeway in Texas. I literally rolled to a stop in front of an Autozone at 1:00 am in the morning..when it opened the next morning I bought a 35 dollar new alternator and found a mechanic to put it in …in the parking lot..and i was off to Florida year was 1998 😝
