On this special Valentine's Day episode, we introduce you to an extraordinary couple, Patti and DJ.
Patti was diagnosed with Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) when she was 20 years old and in fact, she has four other siblings who have also been diagnosed with PKD. Remarkably, all of Patti's siblings have received successful kidney transplants. Patti was the last sibling to need a kidney transplant.
Patti is an outstanding athlete and has been a competitive paddler for most of her life. She defied all odds by competing in a 26-mile canoe race from Maui to Molokai, Hawaii just five weeks prior to her scheduled kidney transplant! Her living donor? Her husband, JD!
PLUGGED IN caught up with Patti during her outrigger training a few weeks prior to her kidney transplant and again while recuperating post-transplant at home with her husband JD. Their story is one of hope, love and triumph. It will not only inspire you but also warm your heart - just in time for Valentine’s Day.
We'll also introduce you to their two nine-year-old daughters, Avalon and Mathilda, They helped nurse both Mom and Dad back to health during their post-transplant recovery at home. Avalon and Mathilda are also avid paddlers and were happy to share their paddling experiences and successes with our host, Heather!
