While the inside of this place makes you dream away to a European palace, it is in fact, located on a rolling 42-acre estate in the United States.
This astounding manor was built in 1898 for Philadelphia businessman William. L. Elkins, designed by architect Horace Trumbauer. The 45-room mansion was built in the style of the Italian High Renaissance, and is decorated with Gilded Age interiors and neoclassical architecture. It speaks to a time when Philadelphia’s utility magnates treated themselves like royalty and articulated their accomplishments in the grandeur of their manors.
And that grandeur is still present today: this historic manor has beauty throughout every detail of the space. The interior was designed by esteemed French interior designers Allard et Fils, with beautiful frescoed ceilings, carved panels, marble columns, and breathtaking crystal chandeliers. The rooms are adorned with gold leafing and exquisite gilded molding.
In 1932, the grandson of the family, William H. Elkins, sold the Elstowe manor property to the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine de' Ricci, that operated the building as a women's religious retreat for 75 years.
The sisters sold the property to Landmark Developers in August of 2019 who planned to turn the property into a boutique hotel. But that plan did not move beyond its proposal stage.
In point of fact, Elstowe manor is re-opening its doors again this Spring, and the remarkable property will be hosting events, and have overnight accommodations for wedding guests on the grounds.
Today we’ll show you one last insight into this place in a state of desolation, as we explored this wonderful historic jewel in 2021, right before renovation started.

Здравствуйте. Привет из Казахстана 🇰🇿. Великолепный дворец. Было бы здорово, если бы его отреставрировали. Благодарю, что через тебя я вижу эту красоту. Удачи, всего доброго.
Your best find ever ! I really can't believe that such an amazing building isn't locked up properly ! Thank you so much for sharing this place with us. It is fantastic that mansion is reused again, but i hope they keep its historical charme. I can't even imagine how tremendously rich the former owner was and sadly this stunning mansion is just affordable for the rich again. Average people can't never stay in that building or even take one step into it. Many greetings from Austria.

Hi there!! :) Thanks a lot❤️
What an incredibly beautiful building! It really does feel like it belongs in Europe. I'm also surprised that such a massive home only had 7 bedrooms. But oh my gosh, when renovations are completed this is going to be a real gem. I'm so glad it's being brought back to life. Like some homes in Nova Scotia that were left to the Nuns (I would visit them with my Grandmother) I felt they were wasted on the Nuns; the homes I'm referring to in Nova Scotia weren't even close to being this spectacular though. I felt the same about this property but I believe it was done so for taxation reasons. Churches always get a break, yet if it weren't for a religious order living here, I imagine it would have fallen to the ground. I can see weddings being held here; imagine a Bride walking down that magnificent staircase? I'm still stunned to see such a gem in the US. I remember when I was a teenager, I visited a family friend in Savannah, Georgia and to me it was the grandest place I've ever been to. I hope the integrity of the building will be left intact and not too modernized. Thanks for sharing this wonderful place. It really took my breath away. Cheers, Maureno. 🥰

One of our main morals in this hobby is to preserve those (partly unsecured) abandoned sites as much as we can. That’s why we decided to keep our material offline until we heard the building is repurposed. We don’t want to attract any vandals/thiefs as long as we know the place is still open to public and not monitored. That’s why we decided to publish it now nearly 2 years later. And in fact, it is a new video since it is the first time we publish something of this place!

@@SXMSXMSXM Thanks for understanding! It’s always difficult to keep something on hold of which you know it’s great, but the main priority is to preserve those places!
It looks like they are taking out the partitions to make the rooms larger. They will likely replace beams in the ceilings for structural reinforcement to facilitating larger weddings and special occasion events. It doesn’t look like a mess to me. It looks like the beginning of someone’s vision of the reconstruction and renovation. What a cool job it would be to help restore this beautiful building.

The incredibly high windows, we're to let natural light in, in the Era of no electricity. Mirrors also. Gilded Age mansions, crammed as much detail and expensive touches as possible, because it was kind of a "ooh, look what I have" actions, with other millionares. Quite often, in Gilded Age mansions, it was quite common to buy rooms in Europe, and ship them back. Windows, walls, paneling, ceilings and columns. Some of these are many centuries. Grapes are frequently seen, for a festive yet abundant touch. Thank you for the video 😊

A stunning place! I also saw Bro's of Decay's tour of this same manor, and I love how you guys can capture the same place from totally different perspectives. In some ways, it's like looking at a different place. I also saw the tour of Lynnewood Hall, and I can honestly say I almost favor the architectural style of this manor a little better than Lynnewood. This one still holds many of its original Victorian features, which I really like to see. The grand hall was definitely a show-stopper, along with the main staircase which was breathtaking in its design. Mr. Trumbauer was an architectural genius of America's gilded age. A fabulous explore, Maureno, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thanks for taking us along!

Thanks so much for sharing this absolutely incredible Palace here in the USA. I too loved seeing all of the woodwork there is there. To that when it was originally constructed they did all of those carvings by hand. I love watching all of the amazing places you explore. It’s something I would have wanted to do when I was young. Back then I just never had any opportunity to do so. If I would have had a friend like you I would have been doing all of the same things. I completely agree with you this palace is going to once again be an incredible place to see with people living and enjoying it’s opulence state again. What the??!!! Is that real or dreamy?? You explored a mansion or a fairytale?? 😍😍😍 This can't be real, like you always see this in movies or cartoon and you think it only exist there, omg just WOW 😍 Royalty vibes to the max. I just imagined myself wearing those victorian dresses and dancing with a prince in that pretty hall, a dream of mine haha! Those people lived their best life in this manor for sure. Imagine owning a home like this! I just wished i had the chance to see this place filled with antique stuff and furniture. Especially the library 😋 People who build this manor are true artists! Everything there is perfectly well done, the carvings the statues, and my fav, the painted ceilings and the amazing chandeliers 🔥🔥🔥🔥 i don't know what we should call this place, a castle or manor or a piece of art or masterpiece or a museum itself 😍 no words left to be said haha. I just enjoyed this place from the inside and outside, and i like the drone shots that showed us the whole property and its surroundings! And my eyes were satisfied seeing all that beauty, yet my heart was sad to see it neglected. Maureno...so ecstatic to see you on this side of the Atlantic. I hope your trip was remarkable. The homes may not be as splendorous in age as Europe, but those who could afford to, took great advantage of the architecture and finishing that only Europe could provide during that time period. This manor is in the same area as Lynnewood Hall which was also built by Horace Trumbauer. A preservation society has overtaken the re-establishment of that incredible Gilded Era estate. Like Elstowe, it was used as a religious school but for men. Unlike Elstowe though, much of it's interiors was sold off over the years to pay for expenses but much of the grandeur still remains. The first building was actually the private rooms for the convent sisters. It is going to be incredible to see what Landmark Developers do with the property. For so many of these homes, it's not the cost in buying these grand, forlorn and abandoned estates - it's the refurbishment and the vastly prohibitive cost in running and maintaining not just the house but the grounds. The original owners of these estates were billionaires even in their time.
