A real Fire Drill in the Accommodation, How to perform it safely engaging all crew members🔥🔝⚓

Hello and welcome to this new episode.
Today I will be showing you how we performed a real fire drill earlier this week.
We had a drill inside the Accommodation.
It is very important to perform this drill safely and engaging all crew members on board.
A briefing took place in the vessels conference room, were the crew got briefed about the expected drill and procedures to be followed.
Then i run up to the Bridge on which I instructed the Second mate to start the manual call point for starting the Fire Alarm, then I announced the Drill and after that completed the required checklists.
I left on the Bridge the Second Mate and I appointed him as the coordinator of the teams and then rushed down to B' Deck at the Ship Laundry where I placed my magic flashing strobe light flashing a red color (The Fire).
After that I checked on the teams on the external part of the Accommodation and found them to be in good order ready to deal with the danger.
Emergency team entered in to B deck corridors and made their way towards the Ships Laundry, they entered and discovered that the fire was an electrical fire and then they entered with the appropriate fire extinguishing agent Dry Powder Extinguisher.
Green Light blinked and fire was extinguished.
A debriefing took place in the vessels conference room, were the crew got debriefed about the overall progress of the drill.

With all the respect captain we had a couple of mistakes here. The firemen where “on air” before they even enter the accommodation which is consuming valuable amount of air. The second one was that the fireman entering the incident area is not protected against the flames that might exist in the affected area. Thank you for your efforts to share your knowledge with us

Kyriako this is a drill and from them we try to become better and train ourselfs. You may conduct the same drill every day and again you will pick up the mistakes that yesterday may have not done. The air supply can be on air when ever deemed necessary, or triger it prior entry, and of course the fireman if he feels he needs the air because of the pressure yes he will start it earlier. For the second one I see a little bit more time lost to wear his glove that's all. Safe seas.

Goodday, Interesting video. Just one question: Why was the fire treated as electrical? If i heared it correctly the ECR called to the bridge to confirm b-deck was isolated. Isn't it than just a solid fire? Or was it just for training purposes you kept it an electric fire? Rgrds

I, as a fresh deck officer have one question, in case of fire drill or abandon ship drill, first of all crew needs to muster at muster station, where head count will be carried out and after this proceed to fire lockers to take firemans outfits and SCABA on muster station and put SCABA on at muster station ( in case of abandon ship drill crew need to first of all gather at muster station and after head count take sart, EPIRB, food and water on scene, OR on hearing the alarm and announcement they can directly take food, water , SART, EPIRB with lifejackets and immersion suits and than proceed on mUSTER station, which one is correct way? First gather at muster station and than take SART, EPIRB on scene, or on hearing alarm / announcement directly go to take SART, epirb and than go to muster station ? I think first we need to go to muster station and after head count we will go to take our assigned equipment and gear. Thanks for your videos

Well depends on the real fire size, some time lost to wear it back on but at the end he worn it and was behind the fireman entered with the extinguisher.

hello, Captain Nick thanks a lot for this learning video as I think OOW performance was not so good,as a good practice is to repeat what he heard, but almost all the time he just said "copy" also I guess gmdss station should be in use (simulate)like preparing distress msg, select appropriate channels etc. regarding the emergency party, their preparation and scba donning not in this video, but most probably it was OK,as they were donned very quickly. and again communication, this is vital for any inspector, and every step should be reported.in my opinion some reports were missing And a question, Captain about this safety line,do you think is it required now, when we have portable uhf fo firefighters?because just imagine -2 person going ,let's say steering gear room, and also the is a casualty there.what will happen to this line and the people?I believe they just be tangled and the line will be a danger, not a saving Thanks a lot again, Captain this video is very interesting, keep going

Hello there, thanks for asking. Boundary cooling prevents or in other words reduces heat from escaping the space on fire by protecting exposures and halting the spread of fire. What you need to do is just to through water on the bulkhead in order to keep it cool.
