    The changes in voice tone and speed is what i miss the most on rally sims. The co-driver is always on monotone and it doesn't help to differentiate between a fast and technical section. Those changes in voice tone and speed dictating notes is very present in real life and it makes a huge difference. I was trying to keep up with these notes and it was way easy to know that a technical section was coming, while in DR2.0 we always get that "5 right---tightens to 2", just like any other "6 right - tightens to to 5" haha

  • @bakersmileyface

    @bakersmileyface

    3 жыл бұрын

    That's it! People often underestimate how the change in tone can decide the pace of the driver. If the codriver's speaking loud and fast, it usually means there's going to be a quick follow-up and you need to change gears. Low and slow, it means that you can put your foot down.

Listening to this co-driver and how well timed his words are is impressive, his tone of voice stays very precise no matter whether he's speaking slow or fast. Noted how his level of volume in his voice goes up the more important the turn - "Tightens... TIGHTens.... TIGHTENS" lmao.

    from my experience in the game, you can get a little bit of a ball park of how far something is just by eye. especially if you do a practice run like they did. that is one big difference in this and real life. if you know a straight line is coming up you can kind of just say short, medium, or long. don't really have to have the exact distances. when my co driver gives me a number, i generally will know how long it is without the number. you more or less can just translate "150" to "long" straightaway and know how you should handle it

    There's a mod for assetto corsa that lets you do that exact thing. I've used It to compete on rally Championships and it works quite well. You have to do a slow pass for the program to do the recce, and then you can edit the notes to your liking

    Depends on the rally, if you’re talking about irl then depending on what it is, co-drivers use either a road book or pacenotes (may be called something different as I am referencing ARC) road book is prewritten while pacenotes are written by the co-driver themselves

    @@icykickflip Co-Drivers/Teams make their pace notes in the recce, which is like a pre-race shakedown of the course. Each team or co-driver might have their own system of taking notes and communicating it. Some might use numbers or notations for example. The skill involved is keeping the notes concise, making the notes accurate to the stage, keeping it accurate to where they are and delivering it to the driver in a timely manner.

    Wow, first time I have heard of Loeb's pace note system in english (granted I only watch WRC occastionally and I know Elfyn Evans uses some weird 1-9 system). His pace note system definitely changed the game and contributed to his success. Afterall drivers before him all have relatively simple pace notes and I can't imagine a top rally driver today using McRae's simple 6-1 system. I hope future rally games stop using the 6-1 system, its pretty outdated imo and I would love to try Loeb's system in sim rallying. Also totally unrelated: Since you have a close connection with thrustmaster, maybe you can convince them to make a wheel with push and pull paddle just like those found in real wrc cars :D. I know its highly unlikely that they will do something for such a niche market but it would be pretty awesome if they somehow did :D

  • @JonArmstrongRallying

    Thanks for your comment! The French system is definitely niche in English drivers but I love it. Elfyns system is similar but just turned upside down. I have asked Thrustmaster to make a flappy paddle wheel on a few occasions but still not sure if they will do it 😃 would be awesome!

    Where can I read up on this? I know McRae's system, and the weird one from RBR (though I never use it), but this sounded like McRae's but instead of 6-1 it's 16-11. In WRC 8 you can use 9-1, but I'm 1) bad at driving and 2) keep things simple so I use McRae's system.
