Hi mate, great video - can I ask why you wear two pairs of shin guards? So you can fire off heavier kicks without hurting your partner?

Love the way you spar: technical and don't try to ko people that you clearly have the advantage over. Good rounds.

Very controlled sparring sessions, too bad it's very uncommon here in the Netherlands to find a gym with a good sparring culture. I've been to a few, and often, the treat sparring sessions as a match with a lot of ego involved.

Terrible advice from that coach. I had similar advice. Lead me no where good. Took years to learn how to actually activate my core properly. Now I am stronger and faster than ever despite my age being closer to 40 ... Learn to be stiff and hard. Learn to actually become like steel. Then you will deliver a stronger punch. Just because most people cannot control tightening up doesn't mean we should be fully relaxed. It means that it is difficult to learn to punch well. Especially in boxing gloves you cannot afford to loosen up Your fists should be squeezing. That's why the top guys are sweating bullets after one round. Also probably why there are few strong strikers and they stand out with it while their cardio is similar - cardio fitness is an exact science but how to punch ... these boxing coaches just robbing their students. Fighters should also be doing specific core loading in vectors and gradually grow that strength. Like arm wrestlers do. Lots of other little muscles to train which help take and give punches..... all ignored... barely any specific work. JSP did some of that work and it gave him wins ... but he was still approaching it sort of amateurishly ... These sparring sessions teach you bad habits and lead to injury. That coach is scamming you ... Imagine a triathlete doing mini tris every week. Hah. The best you are getting out of this is surviving the shit training and then finding out how to actually fight from the other suckers ...
