My perception of his appearance or language or anything else is unimportant. Unlike many parents, he had a goal and he set out to accomplish it. His parenting was deliberate. He taught them extremely important principles, whether they had succeeded in tennis or not. He didn't say, "I don't know how to play tennis," he LEARNED how to play tennis and then TAUGHT his girls. Whole books can be written on Richard Williams. I'm glad he made it to the hall of fame.

I don’t care what anyone says, a father is an indispensable element in a child’s life. A child can do great things with a strong mother, but is capable of doing extraordinary things with their father present. I love you dad. Update to my previous comment: I am not just alluding to success from a materialistic perspective. Even horrible mothers are able to create successful children. Look at the Kardashians as the typical example. If they had a father in their lives with a backbone, do you think he would have agreed to having his daughters sell themselves for fame? Highly doubt it. This isn’t saying that mothers aren’t important. Not belittling the strength and determination of a woman. I am obviously one myself. However, I strongly believe that a functional nuclear family is better than one with a single mother.

Wow based on the King Richard movie trailer Will Smith gained weight, studied their father's walk , and got his Louisiana accent on point. He got Richard Williams down to a tee! Can't wait to see it.

Genius of a man! Not one but two number one ranked daughters, and Serena possibly the greatest ever. I remember an interview with 60 minutes when his daughters were young and the focus was Venus who was 11 or 12 and would turn pro soon. Mr. Williams said, Venus is great but wait till you see the little one (Serena). In spite of everything that he and those young ladies endured even in their professional career, especially early, he should have been celebrated by the tennis profession a long time ago. If he was anyone other than who he is he'd been long revered in the tennis world. So, Mr. Williams from one younger black man to my elder, I salute you sir. Congratulations on the movie.
