The reason they decided to have a baby is because the human race had to keep living and multiplying. If everyone decided not to have babies, the human race goes extinct and the aliens win. The point of the movie was how a family tries their best to keep their humanity and not give up. Having a baby is the best way to illustrate this and at the same time add extreme suspense and plot!

Also how can the Death Angel survive in the vacuum of space but not in the ocean? Cause last time I checked most land based creatures can't survive in those environments for long. There's one more thing I just have to point out, John Krasinski said "that the Death Angels comes from a planet with no humans". Well no shit, obviously there isn't any humans on other planets the last time I checked or maybe I should checked again which I won't cause I'm sure there isn't any.

I agree with some other theories here, that their weakness has something to do with the electromagnetic frequency emitted from Reagan’s hearing aid or electrical feedback & not necessarily a high pitched sound… their ears are multilayered & sensitive to this, as Reagan discovers, but the rest of the human population is trying to survive by being quiet; so playing loud sounds/frequencies that we ourselves aren’t accustomed to would seemingly attract the creatures closer. And if they have an effect on electricity too, maybe this correlates with water being a weakness. Perhaps they were drawn to earth by our “NOISE” in the first pkace

Combined with the news paper clipping of “Shanghai death toll in the hundreds of thousands” pretty much proves that these things were all over the world.
