think this damn thing has gone in now! I had to pause it on your final picture with all the available choices, stare at it, then cross reference it with a reply you gave to someone. By far the best explanation for me, well done...

Still doesn't make sense. If no matter what you choose it will always be behind door A or B and then you get to choose out of those two, it's a 50% change. The original choice doesn't ever matter.

Hi Zaph, because of the nature of the game, the original choice affects which door the host can open. If you write down the possibilities of you winning by sticking with your original door and compare them the strategy of switching every time. You'll see you win 2 out of 3 times by switching but only 1 out of 3 times by sticking. Great comment, thanks for your intrigue Zaph!

You pick a door and the host always reveals a goat from the remaining doors. Hence sticking always gets your initial pick and switching always gets you the opposite. The original choice determines the result of sticking or switching. It is not irrelevant. And in 2/3 games the contestant picked a goat initially.

@@Araqius if you're response to someone who doesn't understand something, that to you is so easy, is to insult them; I'd hate to see you raise children, train someone at a job, or teach in any manner. There are actual mathematicians who agree with me and who agree with you, so are they all idiots among idiots as well, even though they can easily do calculus?

Couldn't agree more Zaph. That kind of arrogance and ignorance displayed by that commenter doesn't belong on this channel. Don't let it affect your attitude to learning, keep asking questions and looking to understand.

@@ciaranmcevoy9875 no worries. I'm able to know that just because I don't understand something, doesn't mean it's incorrect. Like I said in my response to him, there's so many mathematicians, who have argued until they're red in the face, both sides to the Monty Hall Problem. To me, it just doesn't make sense. Then again, it doesn't make sense to me how we know that H2O is two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen, yet even knowing the components to it, we can't create water. If I was on the show, I'd just go with my gut and hope I get the car. If I didn't, I'd have had fun being on the show in the first place, so that's a win in itself.

@@ciaranmcevoy9875 but in the TV show, the host didn't always have to reveal a goat. That would have made a very boring TV show.

Yeah I agree, that wouldn't have made a boring show. But the interesting probability question arises when the host does open another door. At which point the best chance is to switch.

@@ciaranmcevoy9875 it's best to switch IF the host always offers the switch. Which, as we agreed, would make for a boring show and is unlikely.

I believe you're tapping into the ongoing argument that mathematicians have been having for years. However, from a classical probability point of view, it's better to switch if the host opens a door regardless of if they've not done that the whole time. This is seen from the video when listing out the desired outcomes against all possible outcomes. Switching yields 2 out of 3 ways you can win in the scenario that the host opens the door.
