A Pub On Every Corner | Griffin Park | Brentford FC

Спорт

In Griffin Park, Brentford F.C. had one of the great English grounds, boasting the last terrace in the top tier of the Football League. The changing nature of West London and Brentford as a Club and neighbourhood, call in to question what truly makes a football community.
In this film, we speak to Brentford fans as they adjust to their new surroundings, attending their first game at Lionel Road, Brentford Community Stadium. With change comes questions as to how commercial decisions might impact the club culture and how you balance this with ambitions for the future.

The new stadium is just half a mile down the road, so the pubs could have a future with the bfc supporters. (Unlike the Hammers pubs around Boleyn Park. You feel such pity with Hammer fans to leave such an intimate stadium for the horrid Olympic stadium).

As a Charlton fan, when in England I would always go to Griffin park to watch the Super Bees play, when my lot were playing to far away. I always had a soft spot for the bees and loved being able to park up with no hassles and wander in and sit/stand wherever I wanted. I have some wonderful memories of going to Griffin park and always loved the humour, banter and love/loyalty the Brentford fans had for their club! I hope they take a step further this season and make the big time and stay there for a bit! Good luck and thanks for the memories!

I managed to get there once, got a ticket for the standing terrace and it was amazing. The fans around me welcomed me (as a german "tourist") and it was such a great thing to be able to stand in an english stadium. It is the right way to watch a match when you want to be passionate, no doubt about it. Late 50's...selling programmes in the rain to the away fans on the Ealing Road terrace. 1960's...working in Essex and having to make do with Southend on a damp evening at Roots Hall. Happy memories. My uncle was on the players' gate at Griffin Park back then and got me the job selling programmes.

Joined the supporters club 1964/1965 all over England in the coach what great times we had. Only player I can remember by name was Mark Lazarus he played for QPR as well which was a local derby then. Loftus road ... what a dump compared to Griffin Park.

This was the first club i supported as a youngster. My first match was 59-60 season against Bradford City. cannot remember the score, but i think we won, it was an evening game. Then i became a member of the supporters club. They gave you a lapel badge. Sadly i don't have that now.

Nice to see a Brentford story on you tube. I've been a fan since the early 70's...went first with my grandad and then went soooo many times after. Drank in the new inn as i got older, loved GP. Sad to go but we needed to modernise. Haven't been in a while owing to living in Penzance !! However when all this crap is over will go to the new ground. Can it be the same ? No , but it will be mecca to the new generations I hope. Heads up to ALL my fellow Brentford fans , odd, aren't we ??

That's another one we've lost. It's inevitable - you can't halt the tide of progress. Glad I made the midweek trip to GP a couple of seasons ago to watch my team. I mourn the passing of every old ground. Hope things work out at the new place.

We, Grimsby, have mooted a new ground for the best part of 30 years but there's now a bit of light that it could actually happen. When the day eventually comes I know I'll be devastated to leave Blundell Park, as you guys are to leave Griffin Park. But that day needs to come. We've not played each other for a number of years and I feel sad I never got to Griffin Park. Always seen you guys as a kindred club, similar heydays (30s/40s) both got proper old skool grounds, similar-sized fan bases. I hope we can replicate/emulate what you've done, however unlikely that feels right now. UTM PUB
