Matt, you had to push back... at least a little, you could remained respectful but there is much to disagree with folks and point them to the gospel. Many Catholics I know have never heard the gospel. They know the first four books of the NT, but cannot articulate the gospel Paul mentions so many times.

Paul : the great and glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. That God created the world perfect, man sinned and broke that perfect world and us with it, God had a masterful plan and restoration, that he would put on flesh, become a man, live a sinless life and die guilty man’s death to die for all those who would believe in him. But death could not hold him, after three days, He rose from the dead and ascended to heaven where he sits at the right hand of the father interceding for believers right at this moment. And that if you would repent from your sins, practice them no more, and trust alone in Jesus we can have peace with God. That He would cast our sins as far as the east is from the west and we be in right relationship once more. That’s the gospel my friend, not the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) Is that you? Do you believe that? Is anything more to that message that needs to be added?

Matt, I really appreciate your openness to dialogue on the differences between Catholics and Protestants. However, as a Catholic convert who has examined these differences I was very disappointed in Father Diaz' explanation on a lot of the topics. For example, in discussing Matthew 16:18 with Jesus giving the keys to Peter, to a 1st century Jew (Matthews gospel was directed primarily at Jews) they would've immediately drawn back to Isaiah 22 where the "chief steward" or "prime minister" would've held these keys and been in charge when the king was away. These keys represented authority and succession, exactly what they represent in the New Covenant Kingdom. And the authority to bind and loose is so often looked over, but wow...what a statement by Jesus to Peter alone, as the new leader of the new Kingdom. There's much more just on this 1 topic alone! If you'd like to go deeper I recommend a book by Stephen Ray, Crossing The Tiber, and also his book on the papacy, Upon This Rock. I really do hope you read these to have a more complete understanding of Catholic beliefs, and why. God Bless you brother.

swanabee why would you want to get on this never ending treadmill? Seek out reformed theology, John MacArthur, Alister Begg to name a few. There are many wonky Protestant churches out there, but the Roman Catholic Church is a works based religion, praying for you swanabee

Paul : watched it twice. The guy can say whatever he wants on this video but Catholic teaching is very different.

I was Protestant, who thought the Catholic Church was just heresy, most my life until my catholic gf challenged me to actually do my own research. I studied for hours looking into all the ins and outs of Catholicism and everything. I was confirmed this past Easter and I am now incredibly devout to my faith. I chose St Joseph as a patron Saint, to help me be a better man.

Time you asked your Bishop if you may share some views and teaching! I attend a Church in France, we have lovely priests, they all speak French. I don't. I struggle to follow the homilies. (The lessons are easy enough, I read them in English before Mass) There are many people in the world who would benefit from videos of homilies. I am blessed to have an English priests telephone number, and yes, we all watch Fr Larry Richards, but 'more is better'.

@@harryfaber it's a good job that's where Catholics and protestants differ, catholics Sunday worship isn't about homilies or the guy behind the pulpit, it's about the sacrament of the Eucharist and the blood and body! I'm not really a fan of homilies tbh as it takes you from what you're really there for in the first place and that's to be with Christ. When people lose track of what they are at mass for they concentrate on other things like the priest and his words! Thank God for Catholicism

@@GP-dp4mr I assume that you are not the G Park I used to work with! The great thing is that the service is the same here as it is in England, and you do not need to speak French to feel the real presence, body and blood, soul and spirit. My local 'mentor' often asks me if I understood the homily, I have to admit that I only get about 30% of it, she smiles and admits that I heard more than she did as she is deaf. Although we do not have permanent adoration, at least the churches are open everyday, and you can find time to sit before the sacrament. I find that very important.

@@harryfaber I'm afraid I'm not the same G Park lol. I agree adoration is such a great and important thing, a shocking poll done recently came out where most Catholics do not believe the bread and wine after consecration becomes the body and blood of Christ. The majority of my Congregation at mass seeks to be more interested in the priests homilies than what they are actually there for. We have a Latin low mass at our parish, now one thing I notice is, yes it's not as full but everyone in attendance knows exactly why they are going there for, Its so spiritually fulfilling a Latin Mass, I like the fact we are ALL facing the host and Christ not us facing the priest. Thank God Pope Benedict! God bless friend!

@@GP-dp4mr well the homilies are coequal. Sure we are there to experience the saving Eucharist, but the priest's homilies are lessons in the application of Christ's teachings to in our daily lives.

I was a Protestant, after encounter some difficulties in their teachings. After much private study, the Lord landed me to Catholicism. I was amazed by the depth of their teaching, especially St. Thomas Aquinas. Now I am on my way into the Roman Catholic Church, can't wait for completing my RCIA.

So you're okay with Roman Catholicism not having as large an emphasis on Scripture as Protestants do? Sticking with the Holy Bible, a lot of non-RCC believers have doctrinal issues with the RCC regarding papal authority, Maryology, and Purgatory. These tend to be deal-breakers.

Hey brother, i grew up in a non religious family and hated religion growing up. In 2018 my life changed for the better when i opened my heart to God and i started learning about History and theology. It started to make sense for me so i decided to go to a Catholic Mass. I'm now a member of the Catholic church and i defend her always.

We learned about each different religion, experienced their services, learned how they were formed from branching off from Catholic or Orthodox Churches. I listened to seventh day Adventist before and the preachers I listened to were bashing catholics. Heard a catholic priest talk about seventh day and said it’s good they care so much about keeping sabbath day holy. The difference in respect level was profound

I was protestant my whole life, mostly in the Baptist Church. I didn't really subscribe to any particular denomination but was sort of a fundamentalist/evangelical sort of Christian. I preferred to worship at old fashioned fire and brimstone preaching, "full gospel" type churches. I was always taught and was under the assumption that the Roman Catholic Church was not good, and in recent years some even think it's downright evil. Around 2012 I starting having a change of heart. I got a job managing a group home and my boss is a lifelong Roman Catholic. After having many discussions with him about our 2 faiths I decided to visit the Catholic Church near me, and started learning a lot about Catholicism. After several months of visiting Mass every week I ended up going through the RCIA and was confirmed Catholic in August 2018. I became good friends with one of the deacons in my parish who has taught me so much about Christianity and the RCC that I never knew. Needless to say all of the negative things I once thought about the RCC turned out to be untrue. I even became a Eucharistic Minister and I bring communion to the elderly and others who cannot come to Mass for whatever reason. I hope others come to see the RCC like I have.

The ‘non-denominational’ Christian church hurt me in more ways than I can count, from church to my religious education at school. At 13, I made a hard swing to the other side and have been quite a passionate atheist ever since. Recently I've been feeling like I’m missing something, and I realized that I don’t want to let those who hurt me control my spiritual life. I’m currently on a journey of religious exploration, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a particular calling to the catholic church. Thank you for doing a video like this, it's helping my process :)

As a Catholic what we offer spiritually, I think, will fill the holes non-denominational churches (which I've noticed tend to essentially be Baptist breakaways) tend to create. Far less reliance on biblical literalism, and absolutism, because we back our interpretations up with a balanced reading of conflicting scripture and tradition. It makes things less...arbitrarily brutal. My SO comes out of that tradition, my dad was raised Baptist, and my SO's adult adoptive Dad is a Baptists head pastor so I have plenty of exposure to it, and frequently find the flaws there are strengths for the Church. We're methodical, logical, grounded in sacred nature of the physical world, and fundamentally less prone to cherry picking passages from the Bible to run our whole lives. Regardless of where you end up, I hope you find your feet spiritually, God lives in a lot of churches and a lot of traditions. The Catholic Church has always been, in my mind the most logical and rich of those (which is why I chose Confirmation and remain Catholic obviously), but Orthodoxy can be a little freer in some of it's traditions (priests can marry for instance) so take a look there too. Consider attending Mass, all are welcome. You can participate in the Mass except for the Eucharist but you can go up the line with the others to receive a blessing. When you approach the Priest, cross your arms across your chest to receive the blessing. Attending Mass may answer some questions and hopefully it will raise many more questions. This is a journey. After Mass, talk to the Priest, he may have some literature you can take with you.

Atheism is the worst ideology. Almost equal to Satanism Atheists are like parasites without boundaries. „We are just a clump of flesh.“ So just fulfill our pleasures likes beasts and then just die forever and nothing happens. Atheism is so pathetic and sad.

As a lifelong Catholic, I cannot put into words how much of an unbelievably generous look at our faith this was on your part, Matt. Your true Christian humility and genuine willingness to learn should serve as a model for us all when it comes to inter-Christian (and interfaith) dialogue. Thank you for taking the time to really try to understand the beauty of Catholicism. @@2growdaily181 I would highly encourage him to come to Catholicism because I believe it holds the keys to salvation, but I also do believe that people who are not Catholic can be saved. Ultimately I will leave that to the infinite divine wisdom of God to determine, because I cannot possibly ever know someone enough to make that kind of determination.

@@nicksterwixter Well said. A question like that is very hard to answer because you can be attacked either way, much like the Pharisees and the question about taxes. Of course we believe that Jesus loves everyone. Of course we believe He wants us all united together in heaven, especially if we speak and act and follow Him like we love Him. It's a matter of Christ, through a singular event, giving us the gift of salvation in the many beautiful treasures of the sacraments. It's also a matter of us recognizing those gifts, actively receiving them, and treating them with love and gratitude. Of course if one doesn't have access to these gifts, Christ finds a way. Of course if one doesn't understand these gifts, Christ finds a way. But He desires for us to desire to know Him. If we have any inkling that there is a way for us to more intimately and more legitimately experience the salvation of Christ, we - as people who love Him - should go to the ends of the earth and the ends of our being to pursue that. That being said, much can happen after two people part ways in life, and even more can happen after death (hence our belief in purgatory as a reparation for an imperfect life, and preparation for eternal life). Because of God's boundless love for us, we can never look at someone - dead or alive - and determine that they aren't or won't be united with God in eternity.

Joanne Chisholm That's quite easy to explain. When humans disagree within a group, they often form another group. It happens in religion sport politics business etc. regarding the specific religions and their history, there are documentaries out there on most of them.

I just recently became Catholic and had my baptism, confirmation and was able to receive the Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil. I have to say I never expected to experience what I have experienced, all the studying and all the ceremonies, all the blessings and all the healings I have received over the past year has changed my life. Never did I feel as loved or welcomed by any group of parishioners as I have in the Catholic Church. Thanks be to God! Great interview by the way, May God continue to bless you Matt 🙏🏻✝️

As a Catholic, I was so impressed by your openness and curiosity, and willingness to sit back and just listen. But mostly how both you and Father Diaz were so civil and kind with each other! This is how conversations with those of different beliefs should occur. Huge breath of fresh air to watch this dialogue and not be tensing up, worried that one side or the other was going to get offended and blow up. Thank you, I pray I can be just as open and compassionate to my Protestant brothers and sisters. ❤️

I was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Church this Easter. I joined because I wanted to be part of the Church that Jesus himself established. The incredible depth of history, intellectualism, and liturgical beauty of the the Catholic faith compelled me to convert from being an atheist to a practicing Catholic. The Eucharist is at the center of my life now, and I feel so privileged to be able to receive the body of our Lord! My prayers go out to everyone here!

Jesus himself established the church in Rome? Not sure there is evidence for that one. Peter was actually never in Rome either.

@@GregOrangeDoor how about you look into that? Peter died in Rome. You can trace the present day Pope Francis to St. Peter (apostolic succession). You can see the early church father's ( the apostles of the apostles) taught things like the importance of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

Something I can really appreciate about the Church now is that there's a very clear and humane path back through the sacrament of reconciliation. Someone listening to all the bad things I'd done and then tell me that God loved me and my sins were forgiven, it was such a beautiful moment of my life. I really felt the mercy of God in that moment in a way that praying and repenting on my own just didn't help as much. I just kept kicking myself, but there was real cleansing and redemptive grace in personally hearing that I was forgiven. Confession is such a misunderstood and beautiful sacrament.

Leah James Pagan religion? Real Catholics know that God doesn’t reside in statues. I’ve been a Catholic all my life and I’ve never ever heard catechists or priests or any other Catholic tell me to worship statues because God is in there... The Holy Bible was compiled by the Catholic Church. If you don’t believe me then you can always google it. I think too that if you’re against Roman Catholicism then perhaps you shouldn’t be reading the Bible?

Leah James, Catholicism is not a pagan religion. It's a religion past down by the apostles themselves. St.John for example ordained Polycarp then Peter ordained Clement as second pope. Paul teaches make sure you believe in tradition past down and hold them firm. Only the Catholic Church teaches this.

I was a Baptist for well over a year. But something was missing when I went to Sunday service. So after studying and so on I tried going to a Catholic church and I knew what was missing: Mass. The Eucharist. The discipline and the brevity of The Word. I fell in love, and I've been a Catholic ever since.

They are likely doing Eucharist adoration. The Host is the body of Christ. Christ is physically present when the Host is displayed. That's why it is stored in the tabernacle behind the altar. The holy of holy's from our judeo Christian heritage 🙂🙏✝️

I really like your channel. I find it incredibly refreshing. I was born into a Calvinist family, but converted to Catholicism as a teenager. It was very hard being around protestant folks who refused to even call Catholics "Christian," instead calling it Romanism. As I have been Catholic for many years now, I have found that there are many Catholics who do the same thing to protestants with the same uncharitable hostility, referring to them as heretics and other things. You are doing a greatly needed service by bridging communities and traditions together. There needs to be charity, love, and understanding between followers of Christ. It is what He taught us to do with everyone; how sad is it to see His followers not even have that love and understanding with each other. We need to reach out to each other and recognize each other as seeking God. Thank you. Keep up the great work.

@@robertmartin1512 Eastern Orthodox Christians believe they are the first Christian church and that Catholicism split from there. Whoever is the first is irrelevant. What matters is if you are listening when God is speaking to you. No church can hold a monopoly on God’s voice. You simply have to follow where that voice leads you, be it in one church or another or no church at all. Or…all of the above. All churches have value as does sitting in silence wherever we are.

Just watched the two pieces to this story. I am currently working on being baptized under the Roman Catholic Church, at 35 years of age. Peace to you.

I must say this conversation is wonderful. I'm Catholic and I love my faith but this protestant is one awesome dude. I converted to Catholicism from baptist in 2018❤️ It was the most important decision I made in my life. I think it is wonderful that you were able to converse with a Priest and see our religion. I think that you were very humble and understanding, and I loved the way the Priest explained things. Very wholesome!

As a devout Roman Catholic, I learned a great deal about my own faith from this. Well done!

Joseph Gonzales same here. I value my time as an evangelical protestant because it gave me a deep focus on scripture. Ironically, that focus on scripture led me back to the catechism of the Catholic Church, which is more fundamentally sound than any protestant doctrine I encountered. In fact, there isn’t much doctrine to be found outside of the Catholic Church. There is plenty of dogma, but it is extrapolated opinion for the most part. What I thought I disagreed with in the Catholic faith turned out to be misunderstanding on my part.

Try looking into the authentic church of Christ the Eastern Orthodox Church. The EOC has not changed a SINGLE doctrine in 2000 years. On the other hand, the Roman Catholic "Church" invented the papacy, the filioque, etc after the 9th century AD. I CHALLENGE ANYBODY TO POINT OUT A SINGLE CHANGE IN THE SMALLEST DOCTRINE IN 2000 YEARS WITHIN THE ORTHODOX CHURCH.

@Eric Cartman if we assume that the Lord told his disciples the truth that the Holy Spirit will guide them to the " whole truth" (John, 16:13) if we can pinpoint something that has changed in a "church", that means that, that "church" has deviated from the "one truth " . For example the Lord said " drink from this EVERYBODY this is my blood" (Matthew 26:26) what right do the papist priests have to take the Lord's blood away from the people? That's a change right there that was inserted in the papist church after 1054 AD. And there many more . One more thing because I am Greek I can read the New Testament in the original form the Lord said you are Petros (Peter) and upon this PETRA ( rock - meaning this rock-like, steady faith, by which he confessed) I will build my church . The Lord built his church on faith not on St. Peter. If we accept the Papacy doctrine what happens when the Pope dies? Does the church seizes to exist for a couple of weeks?

What exasperates me as a Catholic is all the LIES that Protestants are taught about Catholicism to keep their flock from finding out the truth of its theology. When I talk to Protestants, I seem to spend all my time refuting one LIE after another LIE. We never seem to get to just discussing the TRUTH because Protestants are filled with so much idiocy that some Protestant authority figure stuffed into their brains. No, Catholics do not worship Mary as equal to Jesus. No, Catholics do not worship the Pope. No, Catholics do not perform Satanic rituals secretly in their churches, No, Catholics do not believe that works can get you to heaven, No, Catholics do not worship statues, No, Catholicism is not against the Bible because we call our priests "Father", No, this. No, that. The LIES are exhausting. If Protestantism is a proper secure religious designation in their minds, then why do Protestants constantly LIE about Catholicism? We don't do that in reverse.

This is awesome! Fulton Sheen said "There are not over a hundred people in the US who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church" thank you for going down the rabbit hole that is 2,000 yrs old and therefore holds a lot of Tradition and tradition :) I will add that, as a Catholic, strip everything away, take it all, nothing matters but Jesus. Jesus in the Eucharist here (which is why the church fathers-the disciples of the apostles, clarified this in their writings). To make us holy and bring about his will. Everything else is icing or designed to make this a reality. The theology/"rules" don't bring oppression. They bring a fullness of faith, a thirst that can only quenched by Jesus. P.s. look into the theology of the body. As it relates to the Eucharist, to our sexuality, to even this concept of heaven on earth, to how we treat our bodies, the list goes on. This really unlocks a lot of Catholic teaching God bless!

@@merum3692 Most Catholics I know in my family are what my mom calls "Catholic in name only" as they don't know much about their faith. She decided she didn't agree with the doctrine when my dad studied at a seminary so we're all Protestant. But she even said she wishes more Catholics (including her own family who are Catholic) knew and understood their denomination because it was apparent that her parents - my grandparents - didn't understand Catholicism at all. My grandma often said she prayed to the Pope because he's "Holy" and worshipped Mary (these were her words), which some Catholic friends have told me is completely against the RCC doctrine. It's important to be educated in your denomination. 🙂

Perhaps you should stop and think about just these two things that catholics practice (there are numerous others): 1. They pray to Mary to intercede on their behalf to God. So what are the implications of this? If Mary is to act on those prayers, she must be able to hear all catholics around the world who call on her 24/7. In other words Mary must be omnipresent. Omnipresence is an attribute we ascribe to God Himself. So that makes Mary - in THEIR praying to her - into a god. The last time I looked, having a god other than the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is called idolatry. Plus 1Timothy 2:5 says "There is ONE God and ONE mediator between God and man, the man Christ JESUS". So what is there that you do not understand about the number ONE? Yes, they claim they don't worship Mary, but the very fact that they PRAY to her says otherwise. Reality catches them out on your own self-deception. 2. They make confessions to a man they call father. Now, we know for a fact he wasn't their physical father so what is he the father of? He must be their Spiritual father. Plus, in their catechisms he can forgive sins ( as per the tradition of following Peter as head of the church and John 20:21-23), but JESUS Himself clearly states this in no uncertain terms: "9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. " Matthew 8. Jesus was referring to a SPIRITUAL father since it is obvious that physically we can still have fathers and call them that. The physical father is he who gives you life physically but the spiritual father that gives your spirit rebirth can only be God Himself. Therefore, they can not address their priest as Father OR ask him to forgive their sins. He is only a human being. So again, just in their normal everyday practice, Catholics are blaspheming God AND practicing idolatry. It's not what they SAY but what they actually do. Claiming that they have inherited their authority via Peter is just sheer invention because there is no apostolic succession in the bible. NONE.

Terrific videos! I was a Protestant for 35 years and converted to Catholicism 5 years ago. I learned a lot from my Protestant brothers and sisters and have I have deepened my walk further as a Catholic so both are uniquely satisfying.

I came into the Catholic Church this year after having encounters with the Virgin Mary, The Lord’s Mom, beginning in 2012. Had a widow maker in 2017 and died for at least 20 minutes. She has been through all of this with me and it has been an AMAZING 7 years beyond all imagination. Catholicism is my home where I belong.

Charles Rogers Thank you so much for sharing your story with me, Charles! It is an amazing testimony and you are incredibly blessed! I, too, pray the Rosary everyday. I wish people understood how beautiful and powerful the Rosary is! Many prayers have been answered through the Rosary but I think the one that touched me the most was when I was working.. I had went to tell my boss, who now is a dear friend, I was running to get a mass card but when I went to her office she was crying. She told me she just received a call about her stepdaughter, which I had no idea she had one, who needed a liver transplant or would die within days. Because of complications, the chances were practically zero. She came to the rectory with me to get my mass card and the only person there was the secretary and her friend who were just locking up..She said she would help me though and they were headed to an all night Rosary Vigil and to put our intentions in a sealed envelope and they would include them..The next morning, my manager came in crying...I thought it was bad news..but she received a call at 2 am and a liver was found! Praise God and the intercession of our Blessed Mother! I also pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily and are just now reading St Faustina diary which is beautiful...I'm so thankful we have such a merciful God! Jesus, I trust in You!🌹

Just like Matt himself, I'm also struck by Father Diaz's humility, gracefulness, and wisdom in dealing with all the topics that are presented to him, all while being completely aware that a Protestant will not be in 100% agreement with everything that he says and believes. I'm not a Catholic, but after learning more and more about Catholicism, I'm currently open to the possibility that I might someday decide to be one.

I am truly grateful for Bill's comment. How many Roman Catholics asked to learn what protestants understand? My wife and I are interfaith, I'm protestant, wife's Catholic, and we learn from each other so much. From the protestant faith, emphasis on relationship with God and faith, from the Roman Catholic faith, love our neighbours.

Yes, that what i am pondering right now. So Christianity is not for going to heaven, But as he said thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

I loved this so much as a Catholic who just came back to my faith. Hearing it made me more proud to be a Catholic and I cried for turning my back on the church for so long.

I'm actually an atheist (secular humanist), but I appreciate videos like this. I've always had a fascination with different religious ideas and perspectives. Your videos are not only quite informative, but it's also refreshing to see people who have disagreements in theology speak respectfully towards each other and able to look at things objectively. As someone who grew up in a largely Protestant culture, I had a certain image of Roman Catholicism and Catholics in general that was rather negative. This video (and your previous one) certainly helped to shed light on some of their beliefs, and explained to me why they do and believe some of the things they do. It also clarified some misconceptions I had about them, so I appreciate this.

I'm Catholic since I was born and I'm just so happy to see that you were so opened minded to listen to the father. Just the fact that you took the time and opened your heart to learn more about Catholicism tells me that at the end, we all just want to love and serve God and teach his word.

you should dialogue with a Roman Catholic convert like Taylor Marshall to get a true picture of why they became Catholic. He was an Anglican priest and appeared to have a very real conversion

I see Matt as should I say reticent to express himself according to scripture but rather being respectful and listening. Being respectful is a must but as a believer I go to the Bible for what and how to live under the power of the power of the Holy Spirit who will teach me. Much of the Bible is straight forward, even a child can understand. This is my source. The priest said the church( people) is first then the book( Bible) I could not disagree more. The Bible is our hand book reading it every day. The “church” comes out of the body of believers to believing the “God breathed” scriptures.

The problem is that there can´t be two opposite interpretations that are equally true, so God must have established a unity in order to keep the believers in the Truth. Of course you should read the Bible yourself as often as you can, but it is unwise to stick to your own interpretation instead of being guided by the Tradition of the Church when interpreting key and difficult points.

As a Jewish convert to the Catholic Church, I very much appreciated this cordial conversation. I love Jesus very much, and I love my Church. I also enjoy being part of monthly Zoom meetings with an ecumenical Christian Bible study group, where participants from various denominations share our love for the Lord and His Word, with mutual respect and sincere love for one another. Thank you for giving us a beautiful example of a friendly, non-confrontational discussion that should be the norm, but unfortunately isn't.

I ended up here while doing some research for a class and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Your videos showed me just how little I know about Catholicism and how important it is to embrace new ideas with an open mind and heart. Well done.

Welcome! ❤️ Also in terms of Easter, I’m most other languages Easter is called Pasca, pasqua, paque, etc... which all come from the same Latin root word translating to “Pascal” in English. So I don’t know why in English the word Pasqua was changed to the word “Easter” (maybe just the customs surrounding the area) but the meaning and celebration of Easter is centered around the Pascal sacrifice, the Pascal lamb. It’s all focused on Jesus and FOR SURE has Catholic roots ;)

My mom is an ex catholic, now Baptist. When I told her I converted to Eastern Orthodoxy, she looked me dead in the eye and asked if I now worship the Pope. I literally have no clue why she and my Father hate Catholics so much. It’s craziness. They’ve tamed a bit in their old age, now saying things like: “Well maybe some small groups of Catholics are saved, but if they are they’re being deceived by the church.” The division of Christianity literally kills me inside.

I was born and raised Roman Catholic, my faith has wavered over the years but in the last 10 or so ( I’m 43now) I have been rediscovering my faith. I’ve questioned and compared religions and was brought back to my Catholic heritage. Your series of videos are wonderful, eye opening and respectful. You are a gifted young man in your thoughts, speech and understanding. This world would be a better place with more people with your character. Thank You. You have helped me.

As a fellow protestant, I respect Catholicism. We may not agree in a lot of things, but we should agree that we are a body of Christ. I believe that as believers in the Lord, we should have inter dialogues, and we should try to mingle with each other more. May God bless you.

Thank you Matt! I'm a revert, I was raised in the church (old school Latin Mass and such) I just came back into the church 3 years ago after my mom passed. The vast majority of my family was protestant...my catholic grandfather was deceased and my other 3 grandparents and dad all protestant. Long story short, I spent 30+ years in Protestant churches (my sis is still) I have such peace now that I have come back. I love my Protestant brothers and sisters but to me the Catholic church offers so much more. In worldly terms I'm like "why settle for half a loaf when you can have the full thing" That said you are obviously a brother in Christ. May you be richly blessed.

Watching this video I realized that I had preconceived notions about the catholic faith that were just straight-up wrong. @@HotEatTheFood I agree, it shows a lot of class and a lot of intellectual honesty to verbalize the possibility that one has misconceptions about the Catholic faith. Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, "There are not a hundred people in America who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions of people who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church - which is, of course, quite a different thing." Kyle, thanks for your candor!

These videos with Fr. Diaz are amazing! I've learned so much more about my Roman Catholic faith. My love for God has grown with a better understanding of Jesus Christ"s sacrifice on the cross. I feel God brought you and Fr. Diaz together. For me, there could not have been a better spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Church as Fr. Diaz, and there could not have been a better "interviewer" as you, who asked the right questions that brought out the true meaning of being a Christian.

As a Catholic, one thing I particularly love about our faith is that ALL priests go through EIGHT YEARS of seminary. This is the same amount of time a lay person would study to become a doctor. I've heard many non-Catholic christian friends marvel at the wisdom and knowledge of Catholic priests. I'm proud to say that's because we take becoming a priest, a guide, and a "father" very seriously. After eight years of schooling, prayer, and many great mentors priests really know their stuff! Becoming a priest is never a quick decision. It's a journey that guarantees great wisdom and knowledge.

I am a convert to Catholicism from Protestantism. You did a fantastic job with this interview. God bless you!

​@Freedom MidLIFE Living I am a Roman Catholic with a Master of Divinity Degree and over 20 years of Catholic Ministry. It will be difficult to answer your question well on a forum like this without writing an essay. So I'd ask you and any others reading this response to indulge any lack of clarity as I am aiming for brevity. A covenant is indeed an agreement but a specific type of agreement. There are a few important things to recognize about covenants. 1) They are a benevolent and free offering of a superior power to a lesser power. The greater power binds itself and offers boons to the inferior party as a means of inspiring peace, assimilation, and unity among peoples. 2) They usually contain blessings for keeping the covenant and curses for breaking the covenant on both sides. Though the lesser party has no say in which curses the greater power puts on itself. 3) The covenants are usually sealed with the blood of a sacrifice to show the mortal severity of the agreement. Often those bound to the covenant will have the blood of the sacrifice sprinkled on them. When we talk about the "New and Everlasting Covenant" in Jesus Christ, we are speaking about God's free and benevolent offering of eternal life to us to be shared in union with God. Jesus was not only the eternal high priest (son of God) offering the sacrifice, Jesus was himself the sacrifice; he sealed the covenant in his own blood. Thus the greater power, Jesus, took the curse of sin upon himself (though he never sinned) as he suffered on the cross, in order to ensure that sin could never again separate us from God (Mercy fulfilling justice). We the lesser party to this covenant could never overcome the curse of death (brought about by sin) and so God (Jesus) bore the curse on our behalf. Yet because He is greater than death, he rose on the third day in glory. The New Covenant in Jesus Christ took the curse of the Mosaic Covenant (10 Commandments/The Law/Avoidance of Sin) and fulfilled it by bearing it for us (suffering and death). In its place, a new set of terms have been offered to the people of the whole world. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and Love your neighbor as yourself." When we accept and love Jesus Christ, we are subject to the blessings of that New Covenant. The law will be written on our hearts, the Holy Spirit will give us grace to follow that law, and by our constant re dedication to loving Jesus, we will receive the gift of eternal life and unity with our God and neighbors. Though we too will still die as our share in the penalty of sin, giving our life to Christ we will be subject to the blessing of being resurrected from the dead (as Christ was) and to have new and eternal life. What Matt has done on this channel is to show several different expressions of this covenant and how different churches (Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, Etc.) participate in this covenant in their own particular ways. I think God is bigger than our doctrinal disputes, if you are considering becoming a Christian find a church that helps you love God and neighbor with self-abandon, and their you will receive the blessing of the new covenant.

@@michaelborg5798 there are 2 words in Greek for body. One is more like body that can be also metaphorical. Second is literally flesh, like meet. You don't use such a word when you mean being metaphorical. John chose to use that word (sarx) instead of the second one, that was more soft but also could be taken metaphorically. John very clearly suggested how we should interpret that. Second thing is that in this passage there are used words truly I tell you, amen lego soi. These words were used by Jesus when He was talking about really important, key things. Some of the Jews didn't get this, asking: "How can this man give us His flesh to eat"? And then in response Jesus didn't say: oh, I was talking metaphorically. He used this "truly I tell you" formula, and then dispelled the doubts saying: "my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink". He really said it very clearly. Also we have some very early evidence on how first Christians did understand it - from 1-2 century, e. g. Justin the Martyr in his 1st Apology and many others. If someone is interested I can list some of the early church fathers and christian writers that covered this topic.

@@michaelborg5798 well do you consider an option that maybe the way you are interpreting this is not the only option, especially since the Church has always seen it another way? In 1 Cor 11 we can read a lot about how the first Christians understood it.

I'm a Catholic and I so appreciate how respectful you were. I think it's great that you're willing to explore other perspectives and really try to understand them, whether or not you agree. This video was wonderful. I learned a lot as well and I've been a Catholic my whole life.

As a Catholic I hope we can all appreciate what just happened. Two brothers in Christ discussed their beliefs with joy and interest. We may not all see things 100% the same but we all look to the Lord for guidance and know we are sinner's striving for more together. God bless.

Christian T you do pray to Mary. You even call her Holy. Jesus clearly says to her, “woman, you are no different than anyone else”. Saved by grace through faith alone, through Christ alone. Pray to God alone

@@GregOrangeDoor But Paul wrote in his letters to pray for each other, especially also the fact that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses encouraging us to live our lives as Christians. James even said that the prayers of the righteous has greater power. The saints in heaven are indeed righteous and holy. Isn't that such a beautiful thing?

Love this video! As a convert to the church from a Protestant background, I may have nuanced some of Father's answers - to bridge the language Protestant use and understand, vs the words Catholics us. But you asked some great questions! There are so many misunderstandings about the Catholic church. If you ever want to highlight the Permanent Diaconate order in the Catholic church - I'd love to share my journey through the formation process as I am myself journeying towards ordination. Richard Ferris - I found myself thinking the same thing - as in, "Gee, that seems a bit "colloquial", wish he'd been a bit more clear about what the Church teaches." Yet, at the same time, perhaps it's just as well, and maybe those were the right words in THAT specific situation. And the video would have to be 10 hours long to completely cover each topic touched on! :-) What has struck me MOST about these video's is that the Host is respectful and at least open to hearing the Catholic point of view. Sadly that is VERY, VERY RARE at least on the internet, and almost ALL video's or blogs, etc. where a Protestant discusses Catholicism, it's very angry, confrontational, and - frankly - ugly and uncharitable. :-( So I really APPRECIATE the TONE Matt takes, at least in the few videos of his I've seen.

@@TomLandry1 I will not make excuses for people who speak hatefully of those created in God's image, but it is no secret that Catholic teaching holds that Protestants are anathema. The Vatican has no desire for fellowship with Protestants as Protestants, a fact which many Catholics do not realize. Did you know that because I believe the Lord's Supper to be a symbol rather than real, official Catholic dogma says I'm accursed? How ought I respond to this?

@@elijah4606 - A few thoughts here: First, You might want to update your information on Catholic Dogma. :-) Since Vatican II, The Church has taken a radically more conciliatory posture toward Protest-ants. (I'm a bit pinched for time at the moment, but If you like I can try to get the CCC citations for you, and, of course, you are welcome to check for yourself! - It's available on-line) Second, (And Just FWIW) I spent most of my life as a Protest-ant. I don't reject or "hate" or "curse" anyone, and least of all anyone who professes to love my Lord and Savior, regardless of "form" or "style"!!! And it's not my place to decide who is Saved or who is "accursed". Regarding the posture of the Vatican, really, beginning in the second half of the 20th century, and In Earnest since ~1980-ish, The Church has made tremendous efforts to seek common ground and understanding with other Faiths, and ESPECIALLY with Protest-ants. FWIW, I think you would have a very tough time finding words like "Accursed" being used to describe Protest-ants in ANY Vatican document of the past 40+ years. AND this is an important point that I think a lot of people outside the Church don't fully grasp - NO Single Bishop, Cardinal OR even a Pope IS The Church. Just because "Pope X" or "Bishop X" (or Church Father X) may have written or said something, that alone does NOT make it an official position of The Church. Third - Regarding the Sacraments; To be clear - I respect everyone's right to believe whatever they choose to believe, even if I disagree with them. And I fault no one for staying in the comfort of whatever the religion they were raised in, or felt called to. That said, Surely you understand and accept that It is a fundamental aspect of every Protest-ant sect that they reject at least some of the Doctrines handed down to The Catholic Church by the Apostles. (even if you Deny that the Doctrines were truly Apostolic). Right? Do I think that's an ideal or preferable situation for ANYONE? No, frankly I do not. Do I think Anyone is Necessarily doomed to eternal damnation Solely because they reject some (or even all) of the Sacraments? No, I do not. (Not that my opinion has any effect on Anyone's Salvation! LOL!!). And again, to be clear, this also is the Official position of The Church, as reflected in the current Catechism of the Catholic Church. BUT - May I ask You a question - NOT to attack you, but HOPEFULLY, to shed light on the larger issues?: You reject aspects of the Faith that we believe the Apostles taught as critical to our Faith lives as Christians, and you seem very unhappy at anyone would take issue with this. But what do YOU think about other Faiths that reject aspects of Christianity that YOU deem to be Critical? Suppose someone told you they are a "Christian" - but they reject the notion that Christ was fully divine and/or fully human? OR if someone told you that Loving God wasn't absolutely necessary - that it was enough to "respect" God SO LONG as you also live a "good life"? OR, Suppose someone told you that they are a "Christian" - but they reject the notion that Christ actually died on the Cross? OR that he actually rose from the Dead? - They purport to Love Jesus, but they contend that the Christ's Passion &/or Resurrection was merely "Symbolic"?? How should any Christian "Respond" to such claims? God Bless You!

@@TomLandry1 While I appreciate your amicable tone, I must disagree on what you describe as the more friendly treatment of Protestants by the Roman Catholic Church. The official teaching, from what I have been able to find, is that baptism is valid based on a few conditions. Under those conditions, my baptism as a Baptist would be valid to the RCC. I mention this because in order to commit a heresy, per the RCC, one must be baptized. Having been baptized, I may in their eyes commit heresy. One particular heresy is that of denial of the "Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist." Believing that is is symbolic, and having been baptized in a manner recognized by the RCC, by what standard can it be said that the same RCC does not consider me to be a heretic? I admit my understanding of what the RCC does with heresy is incomplete, but we agree that it does not imply fellowship, do we not? I would say heresy is darkness (obviously not believing that I hold to heretical beliefs), and after all, "What fellowship can light have with darkness?"

Never seen a video done by you, but your visit to a Catholic cathedral kept popping up in my side bar of recommendations. So I watched that one and now this one, pt. 2. Very great. Subscribed. I am Catholic and former Protestant. NEVER BEEN MORE SECURE and full of peace and joy. It's the BEST thing that ever happened to me. I LOVE RELIGION--the Catholic one.

Arthur and Teresa Beem My wife and I are former Evangelical Christians. A series of life’s events led us to the Catholic Church and subsequently RCIA. Nine years later and couldn’t be more driven in my faith...far from perfect and a work in progress but still moving forward!

I knew your chanel last week, just because yours video with father Díaz. I'm From Brazil, a Catholic Christian and i'm here to tell you that i learned a lil bit more about my religion, because i will be always poor in my faith and i know that i need everyday to learn more and more about my Lord Jesus. I'm Thankfull about your respect with my religion, and i want to say that i love all of my protestants brothers in faith, because, independet of our differences, our God is the same and for Him, all the Glory and Honor for ever and ever.
