The Sean Monahan pick by Montréal was pure magic...2 first round pick and a good leader for 2 seasons for the young prospect in exchange for nothing is crazy ! Kent Hugues really know how to get the most out of his assets !!

Most teams and fans are obsessed with trying to win now and the concept of trading for cap dump players to profit off them makes them assume they do not care about winning. Everything MTL did with Monahan looked brilliant. Rebuilding has tons of benefits but most fans of non playoff teams want them to keep trying to win now no matter how unrealistic and how bad it makes the teams cap situation. The Jets traded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd on two rental players and only won 1 playoff game. Trading higher draft picks for rental players at the deadline is like a tax on teams bad at math. That 1 in 16 chance to win a cup is almost for certain going to light all those draft picks they waste on fire.

Every single transaction thus far has been something of a surprise, and I'd expect that trend to continue through the draft and into the FA period.

If I'm the Kings' Rob Blake, it has to be a playmaker/goal scorer for Pick 26. Player needs to be pretty big and a speedy skater that can eventually match up with someone like Connor McDavid. It doesn't have to be a player that can immediately go to the main roster, just a player that their AHL affiliate in Ontario can develop.

Knowing Ryan Smith hes gonna want Utah to Contend

Calgary probably trades the 9 pick to move up and pick Iginla. But is he really the kind of player they need for next season and beyond? I know his dad would want to see him in a Calgary Flames uniform, but we'll see what happens tonight. Not many players get drafted by the team their fathers spent the majority of their own careers with.

I don't see it. Buium or Levshunov over Demidov, maybe, but I think Demidov is their guy if those two are gone. Might then look to add Chernyshov at 21 to make it an all-Russian first round like their all-Slovak first round in 22.

I watch the Hockey Guy all the time. Very entertaining and knowledgeable. But that white board is so 1980s. He needs to start adding a digital screen to his great facts. It would be so much better during the hockey season with digital stats and standing and nightly reviews. The channel would improve so much better.
