    Thank you very much for the video. After years of faithful service with refillable tanks and no blockages that couldn't be cleared with the normal head clean (and many thousands of pages printed), the yellow printhead clogged so bad nothing at all would come out in the nozzle check. Dismantled the printer as per your video (and I doubt that I would have attempted this dismantle without your video) and have been using all the suggested cleaning techniques except the steam which I don't have, including soaking just the head in Windex for 24 hours. Every colour is quite clear but yellow is still fully blocked. I'm about to give up and buy a new one because as many people have said with the cost of a new printer its not worth the two days I have already wasted on this. I'll soak it another 24 hours and if that doesn't clear it then its off the rubbish pile for this printer.

    Hi. You can get the electric circuit wet. The print head itself is actually wet when you are cleaning it. The FACTORY cleans the electric contacts when it is being produced. They are just brass, copper or other conductive leads. They are not made out of wood or paper which would disintegrate contacting water. Dry before you re-connect it, will be safe.

  • @BCHTechnologies

    @BCHTechnologies

    6 жыл бұрын

    Agree. Just make sure to dry the connections before putting it back. We had an accident in WF-3520 which we didn't wipe it dry. The electricity was strong enough to burn a small hole on the ribbon. We are surprised how much juice goes into the printhead. However, it is okay to get it wet as long as you dry it properly before put it in.

    Water is not used in electronic production after the board is populated, mostly the boards are washed in solvents like MEK that don't tend to become electrically conductive, evaporate easily, and don't have high surface tension to retain them in crevices, though mild or occasional exposure to water is not an issue, depends on specific protective measures chosen, but generally avoiding conductive path via contaminated water is sufficient in operation. It would have been an issue if there was any exposed copper, but there plain isn't, any copper is tinned and the PCB is then lacquered, and the contacts are plated with a special gold-nickel alloy that may also contain iron, carbon and cobalt. Brass barely ever finds use in electronics.

    So...as it states - do not try this at home! The instructions are clear enough, and with some patience you could potentially clear your print head. I reckon the chances of it going back together without something snapping or breaking would be fairly minimal, but maybe worth a shot. But I think some further cautions wouldn’t go astray in the video. I was trying to fix a wf4630 (slightly different) and for whatever reason when I started unscrewing the print head as instructed ink started leaking out everywhere. Luckily I had placed down old newspaper otherwise bench would have been stained bad. I persevered a little longer before realising it was a lost cause and yeeting it into the bin. Heading to the shop to get a new printer now.

    Yeah, that's a bad idea to remove those 2 screws up front. The head can be removed with paint hoses still attached. And then you can unplug those hoses. I ruined my printer by spilling paint on the printing head power cables. Be carrfull.

    I didn't go as far as taking it apart, I opened the door and placed a piece of cut up thin cloth wider than the head assembly. I soaked it in alcohol before I placed it along the metal under the head and moved the head to the middle of the cloth so I could grab it both sides. I then cleaned the head by moving the cloth back and forth while pulling upward. I had to run a few machine head cleans from the menu but eventually I got all blacks and colours showing on the test matrix.

    @@mamedaisuki7066 I can't really, but I thought I ruined the printer after that as it hardly deposited any ink. So I ran the head cleaning function a few times and it started to come back (ink must have really diluted and softened). Eventually all the jets had become clear and it has remained unclogged.. Just as the top instructions say, you'll be fine.

    I have been able to unscrew both screws of the ink plastic pipes on top of the print head but as soon as I did that, lots of black ink started to come (cartridges has been removed, but there is lots of ink remaining in the pipes) so if you do this, take lots of precausions to avoid ink to go in the little wheels intented to move paper sheet or you'll get black ink lines on all your sheets for the reste of your life...The ink is very difficult to clean on the skin, so wear gloves!

    I bought an Espon WP4545. It had great reviews and came highly recommended. For 6 months, my printer worked great BUT then there was a massive leak with the cartridges. Please bear in mind, I only ever used original cartridges from bought (at a premium) from Epson and only used quality paper. Do some quick research and you will see that there is an inherent leakage problem with this range of printers. Epson is not taking responsibility and frankly, I haven't got the time to chase this legally with them. I'm left with one of two choices. Get an expensive repair or just go get another printer, which I'm going to do. So take my advice and do yourself a favour, go for another brand.

    @@catalinatoledokiessling9803 It's called "ink starving" and it's probably due to the ink microfilter sitting inside the cartridge spikes inside the printer being half-clogged.
